Hi guys,
I already have an ADR booked for Jiko and we loved it last time we went there, however, I have been reading great things about YS, so I as just wondering if I should try and get into YS and cancel Jiko??? Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks :thumbsup2

We actually loved both places. I do not think you can go wrong with either place

They are both wonderful. If you are someone who really appreciates a great cut of beef-give the Yachtsman a try. It is really top notch. But bring a sweater if you're like me and get cold easily. ;) You could hang meat in that place:rotfl:

We've been to both and enjoyed the Yachtsman but loved Jiko. Having had a filet at both the one at Jiko was superior.

Yachtsman is great for steak, but if you don't eat red meat--like myself--the rest of their menu is nothing special. (Yes, I realize it's silly for someone who doesn't eat red meat to go to a steakhouse. The boyfriend at the time insisted and, since he was paying, I couldn't really argue.)

I have been consistently blown away by Jiko every time I go. The cuisine there is more creative and experimental, so the flavors are more interesting, in my opinion.

I would try YS just because I like trying new places. But I've absolutely loved every dinner we've ever had at Jiko. That's a tough one! I agree with the above poster that you probably can't go wrong.

We've been to both several times. While we love them both and they are both on our "must-do" list for every trip, the reason I would give Jiko the edge over Yachtsman's is that overall it's the more specialized, unusual experience. A fine steakhouse in any city will be similar to YS, but the addition of the African touches (wine selections, appetizers, etc.) to me gives Jiko the edge. Also, we do prefer the atmosphere at Jiko -- again, nothing wrong with YS but it is pretty standard as far as restaurants go. We love the Jiko room as well as the opportunity to stroll around AKL.

I think you'd miss Jiko if you picked YS instead....
