Yachtsman or Brown Derby

Hi everyone,

If you had to choose one for your HS day, which one would you go with. I've rearranged some of my dining, and have decided (at least for now), on my Epcot day to do Le Cellier for lunch instead of dinner, and to do Flying Fish that night for dinner. Now for my HS night, I'd like to do either Yachtsman or HBD.
I was thinking more HBD. I have a 5 and 2 year old, and from the reviews I read, Yachtsman seems really really slow.

Or should I just keep my Le Cellier for dinner?

Thanks :)

Yachtsman is not faster or slower than HBD or any other signature. That's what signature dining is supposed to be: good food in a paced environment. I think HBD might actually be a little slower (I've dined at each at least a half dozen times).

I prefer the menu at HBD. I thought the filet at Yachtsman was okay but I can get filet anywhere; their other cuts of meat have never impressed me (I've had the ribeye, New York and I believe the porterhouse).

Oh really? and I thought that HBD was the quickest. Not that I'm looking to rush, as I enjoy a longer meal and have a bunch of other signatures booked as well (Artist Point, Cali Grill, Jiko, Narcooses and Flying Fish). It just seems from the reviews I read, people have the most problems service wise with Yachtsman.

Not sure if you've been there, but would you keep Le Cellier for dinner or switch it to lunch?

I would pick Yachtman for sure! We took our 2 DDs there last year and the meal was not slow at all. The waitress was very good and attentive to our kids too. It was definitely not too quiet in there either. And the food was excellent. When we went to Brown Derby, we didn't care for it, and didn't feel it was worth it for the price/credits. I don't think it would be any quicker either.

This is a tough one, The chicken noodle soup with Mickey pasta and a hot dog were my DS' favorite meal at HBD when he was small. Of course the white chocolate puzzle with "paint on" toppings at the yachtsman was his favorite dessert.

That said I would go to the Yachtsman for the adults the kids will get a good meal also.

Just another vote for Yachtsman! Brown Derby had the absolute worst service I've ever had at a Disney restaurant. As for being faster...I think that all of the Disney restaurants are pretty much the same...just depends on the day.

I've done both lunch and dinner at Le Cellier and I think both meals are okay, not great. I probably prefer dinner a little more than lunch just because I do not like to eat that much food mid-day; I'm getting old and a heavy meal makes me sleepy, lol. I think Yachtsman is better than Le Cellier and Shulas is better than Yachtsman as far as ranking the steakhouses.

Haven't been a big fan of the Derby since Fantasmic changed things. Used to be a nice quiet spot for a relaxed dinner...

I would choose HBD over YSH. I prefer fish over steak though, so you can't necessarily go by me. ;) Their fish entrees are excellent. My meat eaters weren't bowled over by YSH though, & my DS's GF (at the time) said her steak at HBD was the best she had all trip. That's about all she eats & ate a steak for dinner every night for the week. As far as service, you can experience good & bad service at any restaurant. One bad server does not define a restaurant. We haven't eaten at LC, since it became a Signature restaurant. In the past, I would have chosen YSH over LC. I can't really say now though. We will try it again soon. I want to see for myself, if it's improved.

We've been to both and now prefer Yachtsman. I really loved Brown Derby in the past but with the exception of one visit, we've not had great service. Our last dinner there (earlier this year) was so slow that we left my husband and my dad behind to continue waiting for the check while the rest of us continued on at DHS. And our boys don't care for the kids' menu at all. I do love the tuna appetizer, though!

While the menu at Yachtsman isn't as interesting, I find it far friendlier and relaxing than Brown Derby. The food was good and the service was friendly and efficient. In the end, I prefer the atmosphere there either with our without kids along. Our youngest son is four years old and the CMs at Yachtsman were very welcoming.

We've been making lots of signature ADRs recently (Jiko, California Grill, Le Cellier, Flying Fish, Bluezoo, Il Mulino) and Yachtsman ranks pretty high on our list right now. Brown Derby is at risk of falling out of the rotation. Again, while we don't think Yachtsman has the most interesting menu, it offers a good combination of food, atmosphere and service.

Been to both. Both were excellent. Service at both were excellent. Food at both were excellent.

So, my choice would be Brown Derby because if you are in Hollywood Studios, then you save a lot of transportation time.

I have really enjoyed the Yachtsman over the years. I would vote for a dinner there.

I like both and I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like better!

If you want steak, then I'd go with Yachstman. If you want to have more variety to choose from for your entrees, then I'd go with HBD.

This may sound silly, but if you're a carbaholic like me you'll understand.....the bread basket is much better at Yachtsman. HBD just has some boring white rolls. Yachtsman has these amazing onion pull apart rolls and sourdough rolls, served with roasted garlic. I could have eaten the bread basket only at Yachtsman and been pleased. :rotfl:

I thought the service was equally good at both places and I didn't feel rushed at either.
