Yachtsman’s, Flying Fish, Ale & Compass

Hey y’all!

I’ll be at WDW for a wedding in a few weeks and will be having one sit down meal with my buddies the night of our arrival. We want to eat dinner in the Epcot area because we have a dessert party at Epcot to attend at 8. The available reservations that synch up with our timeline are Yachtsman’s, Flying Fish, and Ale & Compass. I had an Ale & Compass reservation, but moved it to Yachtman’s when one opened up. A reservation for Flying Fish also opened up. Do you think this was a good move for dinner with the boys? Which of these three options would you go with personally?

I have seen lots of big groups in the Yachtsman, mostly in the back corner which is perfect the group and the rest of the guests be honest. Come to think of it, its been mostly large groups of men. It definitely has a great masculine vibe for a group of buddies. As for the food you can't go wrong with Yachtsman or Flying Fish...Ale and Compass is not really in the same category but very good.

I like all the menus, I think I like the idea of a steakhouse for dinner with the boys on my first night out alone in years. How does it compare to places like Ruth’s Chris or Peter Lugers?

I don’t know if dessert parties are truly back or if this something they’re accommodating for the wedding. It was on the invite and they asked for an rsvp for it some I’m assuming it’s something they cleared with Disney.

as a card carrying member of peter luger which i give a 10 to, and compare all other steakhouses to that, i give ruths chris an 8; however as good as the Yachtsman is, i can only give it a 6-7. We have eaten there many times even after they stopped serving wagyu and is always decent but dont expect luger; the atmosphere is definitely upscale steakhouse clubby and you guys should enjoy it;

btw, is it julio and madison's wedding at the 4 seasons?

you are welcome; if you want similar to ruths chris, shulas at the dolphin would be such, although they dont have the 48ouncer anymore; i did get my name on the wall there and was inducted into the 48 ounce club for polishing off that steak years back;

I am going to piggyback on Disneykingofkings advice and suggest Shula's at the Dolphin. It's, arguably, the best steakhouse on property and definitely has a boys' night out vibe. It's a little further of a walk to EP than Yachtsman and Flying Fish, but you can always hop on the boat to EP if you'd rather not walk. You can find reservations for Shula's on opentable or call the resort directly for reservations. If you would rather not do Shula's, I'd probably go with Yachtsman, Flying Fish would be my second choice. I like Ale and Compass, but it is more casual and not really "special", IMHO.

You can book private dessert parties in EP. It's very popular option for wedding and corporate events.

Ah makes sense. I got excited there for a second thinking I missed an announcement. We love the Frozen dessert party!

As others mentioned, Shula's is a better meal, but also a good bit more expensive. We liked Yachtsman, but I think you'll get more kids/noise there than at Shula's. But between the three you are thinking about, Yachtsman and Flying Fish are about equal (though FF just reopened so may have some growing pains) and both are a clear cut above Ale & Compass.

I think I might stick with Yachtsman. If Shula was some sort of life changing experience I’d probably go there, but since I’m coming out of pocket to travel from NYC to Disney for the wedding I feel like I’d rather do a more expensive dinner with the gang at home since we’re all NY-based.

Yeah, makes perfect sense. We've had several very enjoyable meals at Yachtsman. Ale & Compass Lounge or Crew's Cup are a good place to grab a drink before dinner, but can get crowded. Have a great time!

In some respects, you've made this easy.

Yachtsman is a meat-focused menu.....with non-meat choices available. It's high-end, a Signature in Disney's word.

Flying Fish is, well, fish-focused.....with non-fish choices available. It's high-end, a Signature in Disney's word.

Ale & Compass is a bit more eclectic 'pub grub' with burgers & pasta. It is Moderately priced and has a less 'formal' atmosphere.

So, when I see 'buddies' - I think steak at Yachtsman. (FWIW, I think nearby Shula's has better steak - at higher prices).

But if you're going to be having a big dessert elsewhere, maybe a smaller meal at Ale & Compass.

Flying Fish is about to reopen - I'd let the staff get reacquainted before I'd 'recommend' someone eat there. (FWIW, I think the nearby seafood at BlueZoo is better).
