My husband and I just got back from Disney yesterday. We left on the 9th and returned on the 13th. I just wanted to say how much quieter the Yacht Club is than the Beach Club. We don't have kids and generally like a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere. We were originally supposed to stay at the Beach Club, but once we saw how quiet the Yacht Club was and how much more responsive the staff was there (presumably because they had less people to deal with) we switched.

I was just surprised there was such a difference. The Yacht Club was almost empty in the lobby, expect for some people from a convention and the Beach Club was always teeming with people. The person at the front desk of the Yacht Club said that the Beach Club had the Villas and people would often pack A LOT of people in a room, which made the Beach Club a lot more crowded.

Overall, unless you are a family who really thrives on crowds, I would definitely choose the Yacht Club. I had to wait for 20 minutes to talk to the concierge at the Beach Club and there was never any line at the Yacht Club (plus the Yacht Club pool over on the side of the complex was always just about totally empty).

Thanks Roxanne...we are hoping to book YC this September...we have three children (ages 6,7,9) but they are pretty quiet and actually can't stand to have that much noise around them....how was the pool area? Was it big enough that it wasn't soo loud? I just don't like screaming so my kids can hear me if they're just 15 feet away. Thanks for the help!
Tara

Thanks Roxanne! My DH is making his usual conventions plans for Oct. and was debating on Yacht Club or Boardwalk as he stayed at the Beach Club last year and likes to try different resorts.

Stormalong Bay was quite crowded in the shallow areas, but there were quiet pockets in the deeper areas. But the Yacht and Beach Clubs both have their own tucked away pools. We did not see the Beach Club pool, but the Yacht Club pool was almost deserted every day we went. It was great! Really relaxing there.

Thanks for the info! We will be at the YC June 1st-11th. Those are the very reasons I picked the YC over BC. We have stayed at many WDW hotels but never an Epcot resort. We have been there several times to eat and it just always seemed like the YC was more subdued.

We're looking forward to a very peaceful, relaxing time (yes, at WDW! :rotfl: )

We just got back from our stay at YC, also, and I agree with you completely! We walked over to BC quite a few times and the lobby was always jam packed with people. YC, on the other hand, was quiet and relaxing. I'm so glad we chose YC. It was a great week, and of course I'm already planning our next trip!

We will be at the YC at the end of July. We picked it for the same reason, less kids and quieter. :sunny:

I agree whole heartedly with the OP. We stayed at the YC in Feb. and it was like night and day comparing it with the BC. Our girls even remarked that the people at the BC needed to learn manners ;) Out of the mouths of babes! We saw parents smacking kids in the lobby and a child literally climbing the floor to ceiling drapes in the hall between the two resorts. PArents didn't blink an eye when the child pulled the curtain off the wall :earseek: . If the YC was a monorail resort it would be our home! To us the BC just seemed a bit shabby.

I am offended that the YC front desk said this.....

I am a DVC member that owns & stays at the BCV and i wanted to give you some info that i believe that the front desk forgot to tell you....
we have rules & it was in our contracts that we all signed , on how many people we can have in our villas. Besides i am not sure if any DVC members would make their kids sleep on the floor their entire trip. there are only enough beds, pillows, blankest per unit according to how many people we are aloud.

BCV 2 bedroom 8 people 2 queen beds, 1 king bed, a full pull out couch,
1 bedroom 4 people & 1 infant 1 king bed, a full pull out couch & a play pen, studio 4 people 2 queen beds.

The BCV's are a seperate building from the BC. The BCV has their own quiet pool and can use the SAB.

Did the front desk mention that maybe the noise was from Cape mays the restaurant located just off the lobby of the BC that i am sure both YC & BC, BCV guest eat there.

I do agree the BC is an upbeat(Lively) resort compare to the YC more relaxed resort. And we all agree the the BC & YC pool is one of the best pools, which more and more people want to stay at these two resorts.
in the past few years i have tried to stay at the YC and found that they were always booked, except for this past trip i got to stay there for a few nights. Its a nice resort, quiet and if i were to go down just DH & I and i wasnt booked on points i would stay at the YC just because it being more quiet, i hope you found the YC quite pool, it was empty when we stayed there compare to the crowed & noisey SAB, :goodvibes

has anyone ever stayed at both the GF and YC? if so, how would you compare the two? we just got back from GF (our first time) and are already planning a return trip. we'd like to try someplace new, preferably along the lines of the GF (quiet, relaxing, less crowds). thanks.

I guess people waiting for the character breakfast or the dinner at Cape May have nothing to do with the noise and the crowd. Plus only BCV and BC guests go to that character breakfast. No one from the YC would dare step foot over to the BC for a meal.

I've stayed at the BVC a few times and the reason I love it there is because it is so quiet. Moreso than BWV.

Now, SAB, that's another story. It's crowded with YC guests who yell at their kids, plus their older kids who make a real racket. It's noisy at SAB. The leisure pools are much quieter.

The CM at the YC should be disciplined for those comments.

The YC has always been known as a more sedate resort appealing to older guests ( even prior to BCV ). There's not much of a reason to visit the YC lobby ( outside of curiosity ), since all of the "action" places are in the corridor between the BC & YC. And of course Cape May, one of the more popular dining places, is located in the BC itself.

The Beach Club Lobby is packed with people waiting to get into the Cape May Cafe. These people are people from all the hotels at WDW and also those not even staying on property. So the people you saw in the lobby weren't necessarily Beach Club or Beach Club Villa guests.

We saw parents smacking kids in the lobby and a child literally climbing the floor to ceiling drapes in the hall between the two resorts. PArents didn't blink an eye when the child pulled the curtain off the wall. If the YC was a monorail resort it would be our home! To us the BC just seemed a bit shabby.

And you don't even want to imagine how the people at the All-Stars treat their kids!! ;)

We started staying at the Epcot resorts 9 years ago... BC was the first place we stayed & that lobby is the reason we haven't stayed there since... it is a nightmare of a place!

Let's place blame where blame should be placed, on Cape May's Restaurant!! Dear God there are always people lined up for the place & their little children are meanwhile sitting around the TV in the middle of the lobby! Watching Disney movies of course LOL....

Don't think the blame goes to the DVC people (I'm one of those too).... I far prefer YC to BC & the lobby is the reason why!

Ditto, been 3 times and Cape May is packed, as far as noise goes who cares if it's in the lobby, you don't sleep there. I worry about noise only when I sleep, it's Disney.

That said, I do appreciate that YC is more subdued. To each his/her own.

Enjoy

THANK YOU!!!!! And, let me add to this that the lobby was "what it was" BEFORE DVC came to the Beach Club....Beach Club has only had the villas for about 4-5 years (my memory eludes me).

I just became a DVC member at Beach Club. I bought enough points to have a week in a one bedroom, and another week in a two bedroom. Maybe I am just a little sensitive, but after spending over $40,000 to be a member there, I really resent the implications of some on this thread that I am "trashing" your resort. With the money I have spent there, I think I have much more of a "vested interest" in keeping that resort pristine than people who stay for one week and pay a couple of thousand dollars.

Money certainly doesn't make anyone a better "caliber" guest, but the portayal on this board of DVC members as "trash" really gets to me sometimes. People who are not members may go to BC this trip, GF the next, and "heaven forbid" the All-Stars after that (although I am SURE no one who ever stays at BC/YC on cash would ever venture so low  ). But, I will be at BCV with my family for the next 38 years. I can promise you, NO kid of mine will ever deface ANY of my $40,000 investment!!!

I would have to agree with the OP that YC is more than likely a quieter place than BC, but the comment about the fact that BC has the villas and they tend to pack more people in a room is totally rediculous.

My feeling, and this of course is just my opinion, but I think alot of the crowd and noise with regards to the BC lobby is due in large part to Cape May Cafe and the very popular Character Breakfast and Clam Bake that they have there. Because of these two popular meals, people without PS that want to get in normally congregate in the lounge and lobby area of the BC to wait. Now YC does have the Yacht Club Galley right inside the YC lobby, but there is no character meal, and thus you usually have a more "subdued" crowd and atmosphere.

Again, I don't think the fact that there are less people to deal with at YC is a reason either. In reality, there might even be more people staying at YC on different occasions because the YC has the Convention Center.

I would characterize YC as a more "refined" atmosphere. One resort that someone would pick to relax and take a leisurely pace to their stay. The BC on the other hand is a "livelier" atmosphere. One where there's always something happening or you can always strike up a conversation with others. I don't believe you can go wrong at either one.
