Yacht Club Standard Room or Beach Club Villa?

Hi,

I am pleased to soon be staying at the Yacht Club for the first time. I just saw that I could get a Beach Club Villa for about the same price. I am traveling solo.

Can someone with experience at these resorts offer some guidance? I'm having breakfast one morning at Cape May, I think that is Yacht Club, but would still be close for Beach Club? Not having been there, I am not sure of the scope of the place.

Any thoughts would be welcome about whether I should stay with my Yacht Club standard room or try to grab the Beach Club villa while it's available. I think I'll be happy either way.

Here area couple of postings from the Beach & Yacht Club FAQ addressing the difference between a Beach Club standard room and a studio villa. Most of the same comments apply to the Yacht Club, except that the YC rooms all have full balconies, as do the villas (but the Beach Club resort rooms have some full, some smaller balconies)

See page 899-900 of this thread for several additional comments of BCV vs. BC standard room

Cape May Café is in the Beach Club lobby. A five minute walk from the YC lobby, probably about the same, maybe a little less, from the Beach Club Villas.

As a solo traveler also, I prefer the studio at BCV. You can keep the sleeper sofa closed, so will have a bed, sofa and kitchenette. I don't cook, but will make coffee and cereal in the morning and use the microwave to reheat leftovers.

The Yacht Club room will be closer to the bus, boat and Storm Along Bay. But the BVC room would be closer to Epcot.

The rooms are nicer at the YC but if the price was the same and I was going solo then I might consider the studio.

I have to agree with this. Plus, I've found the BC villas to be quieter than the YC (and also the BC) standard rooms. BC/YC are sister resorts, so they share amenities and are right next to each other, so it's very easy to access everything (pool, restaurants, boat dock, etc.) at both resorts. They are both gorgeous. Personally, I'd pick whichever is cheapest, but, if price is the same, I'd go with the villa.

I just stayed at BC but visited YC a lot for dining. The bartender at YC (when I was up late waiting for laundry to finish and the YC bar was open after the BC bar closed) explained to me that YC gets a convention crowd so the decor, amenities, and bars/restaurants tend to skew more to the adult crowd, whereas BC is full of kids. I had kids and made the right choice with BC for sure, but going solo you might enjoy the more grown up side at YC.

I will say, at BC it was very handy to exit right next to Epcot, which is my favorite park :D

I don’t think either option is a bad choice. We just stayed at BCV for a week and the studio is a lot of space. As others have said, leaving the sofa closed gives you a living area, sleeping area, and dining area. If the price tag is the same, BCV studio would be my first choice. It’s very close to Epcot and still very convenient to Storm Along Bay, transportation, and the lobby (where Cape May Cafe is).

The only thing I prefer at YC (and I’d very happily stay there- I just consider most things BC and YC as equal) is their Marketplace (quick service/ store). The one at BC is fine but I liked the panini at YC better than the BC choices. It’s really not a deciding factor- it’s all close enough together that it’s a brief walk.

I really appreciate all of the thoughtful feedback. This is a last minute trip, and I haven't had the time to do the research that I would usually put into it, so it is very helpful to rely on your experiences and opinions. I do love the idea of the kitchenette and sofa in the villa making it feel less like a hotel room, which even at such a nice place can at times feel a bit lonely when I travel solo. I will sleep on it! (not the sofa - the decision)
