My BIL and SIL are really considering the Yacht Club Resort the next time they stay at WDW. They love Boardwalk and want to be close to it. What are some pros and cons for them to consider??
Thanks !

It's close enough to Epcot that you can walk....MGM too!

We stayed at the Yacht Club BK (before kids) for a special rate of $99 a night (those were the days!) We loved it! Only downside was if you get a room in the "back 40" you have to walk forever down all of the corridors to get back and forth to your room. For a special trip and if you can afford it, this is a great resort. You can walk or ride the boat to MGM and Epcot's World Showcase. You are next to one of the best pool/water parks (StormAlongBay) and you are right across from all the nightlife at the Board Walk! It is a charming resort and has much to recommend it.

It has the best pool on property, Storm Along Bay.
Check out the pictures from this link:

I'm staying there at the end of my vacation in 7 days for 1 night so we can swim in SAB.

Have Fun!

I second the comment about the best pool of all the WDW resorts. Its a great place to stay and so close to epcot and MGM.

Our favorite resort! Location and pool can't be beat! Walk to Epcot, or MGM, or the Boardwalk. So many restaurants within walking distance as well, and the decor is beautiful!

cindy_k, thanks for the link to my site! :)

I really like the Yacht Club. I've stayed there a couple of times and found the cast members exceptional. I have a lot of pictures of the resort. You can find them HERE.

Hey dzneelvr!

We stayed at the YC a few years back, and I would have to say the best thing about it was the location, location, location! When you can WALK back from Epcot to your hotel -- that's pretty cool -- that is, if you still CAN walk after a day there (Every Person Comes Out Tired);)

And our kids always love the launches --whether at YC to MGM or Epcot or from WL to MK -- they think it's part of the magic -- and how right they are:teeth:

Another very big plus to this resort is the *awesome* pool -- heck, it's a water park! Don't get mad if you're in the parks and the kids just keep begging to get back to the hotel for a swim, LOL!

Now, there were a few things that we did not like about our stay there. One was previously mentioned by another poster, that being the long haul to the rooms after a tiring day in the parks. We had the grandparents with, and believe me, that extra mile to get to the room really takes its toll after the first coupla times:(

In keeping with that idea, at the time we stayed there (2000), you had to go to Beaches & Cream to refill your mugs, and from the wing we had, it was quite a hike, not to mention you then had to stand in line with everybody else ordering ice cream, etc., before you could hand your mug over to the clerk. Correct me if I'm wrong about this now -- hopefully, a change has been made and a self-service area has been put in??

Other than that, no complaints. Well worth the money, since we have a fabulous travel agent who got us a terrific discount:teeth:

We love the YC. I cannot really think of any cons. We love the theming, Storm-A-Long Bay, the area in general, being able to walk to MGM, EC and the BW not to mention mini-golf and many different sitdown places to each. All of the rooms have full balconies. You can also rent watercraft. Hope you have a great trip.

When you stay at the Beach Club - do you use Storm-Along Bay also? or is it just for Yacht Club guests?

(having stayed several times at the Boardwalk - the location is the BEST thing about the EPCOT resorts!)

I agree with the previous posters: they will love the YC!! :D There is lots to do & see at the Boardwalk, so they won't be disappointed. I'm sure that they'll love Stormalong Bay and Beaches & Cream!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, if they don't want to have a long walk to their room as goofy4dizney mentioned, have them contact their travel agent (if they went thru 1) and have them make the request to be close to the elevators. If they went thru Disney, have them contact Disney and they'll make that same modification on their ressie. I have done it for all the times I've stayed at the YC, and although Disney Reservations can't guarantee it, I personally have not been disappointed!! :jester:

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! YC RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've stayed at the Beach Club, and cannot wait to try the Yacht Club. I really liked everything about the resorts, their location to their theme, it can't get much better!

I just returned from a short stay there. I loved the Yacht Club and I think it is probably one of the best resorts I have encountered. It is very elegant with dark woods and the nautical theming. Even the hallways are nice! The rooms are very large in my opinion. We had a corner room, definitely request this if you don't mind walking. I loved it! I agree that there is a bit of a long walk, but hey--if I get the view I want, I suck it up and take the hike. I had a gorgeous view of the lake and Boardwalk and it was just perfect.

Cali--if you loved the BC you just wait til YC--it's fab!

I'm curious for the answer about the question about refilling mugs from goofy4dizney. Is it true you have to wait in line and hand over your mug? We just returned from the Polynesian and could self serve...it was nice to be able to it yourself and we never waited in line. The Beach Club is probably our next stop...thanks for your reply.

Actually, even at the Polynesian we purchased our own 12 pack of diet coke and we wondered if we got our value...although our son really enjoyed the hot chocolate. If it were inconvenient, I think we'd probably pass on the mug.

Hi dimimi!

I was wondering if anybody had an answer to that question myself :)

At both the WL and AKL, there was a self-serve machine for coffee and soft drinks, so no problem. The YC/BC setup was extremely inconvenient, and I can't believe that it would have stayed that way for long...

Can anybody help us out?

We stayed at BCV last November and it is still wait in line at Beaches and Cream or Hurricane Hannah's to refill your mugs. Now that B&C doesn't open until 11 a.m., I couldn't get iced tea until after then when I spent the day at the pool.

I agree. They definitely need a self-serve area at Y&BC.

B&C does not open for quick breakfast food anymore? The last time we stayed at the YC was back in Sept 2000 and we had to go to B&C to get quick breakfast items in the morning. If B&C is no longer open for this where do they offer quick breakfast items?

They have muffins and pastries, milk, coffee, juice and maybe cereal set up in the lounge off the lobby. Not much selection. We ended up walking over to Boardwalk Bakery.

Does the YC or the BC have any rooms for 5? Any ideas
on what the Ap rate would be? It sounds like a fun place to go...We are booked for 12 nites in Ft. Wilderness cabins, But
might want to mix it up..(Got a AP rate of $144 a nite)
