Yachstmas vs. Jiko?

Once upon a time, it would have been hands down the Yachtsman. But quality there has slid dramatically in the past two years (many of us blame that horrible DDP!) so now, it's Jiko that's the better choice.

I've never eaten at Yachtsman so I can't compare but it's hard for me to see how anything can be better than Jiko!

I've eaten at both several times. Yachtsman is good; the food is great, but we've had snotty service and no we were not on the dining plan.

Jiko is our favorite. We LOVE the menu and always have trouble deciding what to get. They have a great wine list and the service has always been fantastic

I love both places, but if I had to choose one it would be Jiko. Food and service at both places are wonderful, but Jiko is a little better in both respects. Also, Jiko has an all South African wine list with many wines that are not available anywhere else in the US. Yachtsman has a nice wine list, but the opportunity to try some unique wines at Jiko is a big plus in my book.

I'm going with the majority. Jiko wins in my book, hands down, for both food and atmosphere.

We've eaten at both several times (and have ADR's for both for our Jan trip) but we definitely prefer JIKO. Yachtsman is not as good as it used to be, both in service and the food quality (and we also do not do DDP). Reasons for choosing JIKO: 1) some of the best appetizers at WDW 2) more eclectic menu choices 3) quieter atmosphere 4) AKL is just beautiful to walk through 5) wait service has always been top-notch for us and finally 6) amazing wine selection.

Several years back we loved YSH, it was probably one of our favorites but since then quality has definitely gone downhill. We decided to give it a try a year ago and it confirmed what we heard. We were disappointed.

We did have a bit of a situation as well as were sat at a 2 top and found a few little ants crawling on the table cloth which I was not at all thrilled about and being from S. FL I am used to them but not at an upscale restaurant like YSH. I told the host quietly and asked if we could be moved. We were already eating our appetizer so they had to move us with the food. They did move us but I could tell they almost didn't believe me (why would I make this up?)...I saw them looking all around the table in the dark and they reset it and sat another party of 2 there shortly after. Wasn't real happy about being "doubted" on that.

Otherwise, the food wasn't terrible but it certainly wasn't up to par with what it once was and IMHO I don't think it compares to JIKO's food, especially their filet which I think is one of the best around. And, that would be puzzling since YSH is a "steakhouse"??? The ambiance is also more up to date. I also think YSH is in need of a rehab. I wouldn't return to YSH again but always miss JIKO if we don't go there every visit.

Never have eaten at YSH, but absolutly LOVE Jiko's.

They have a great menu and an excellent wine list.

Ditto above.

We ate at Jiko on 10-7 and we would go back there in a heartbeat. Wonderful food, wonderful service. Highly recommended.

I'd chose Yachtsman because we love the steaks there and have a favorite server - Oscar.

But I wouldn't be upset if I had to go to Jiko instead.

We love them both! We just ate at both the first week of October and had great experiences at both.
