SOD: Billy's New Year's Fantasy
As Billy's life continues to spin out of control, he's forced to face the potential fallout when he takes a special New Year's Eve journey a la Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.
After getting smashed at Jimmy's bar, a miserable and lonely Billy "stumbles out into the snow and falls on his keister," previews Billy Miller. And as the clock strikes midnight, he suddenly finds himself in an alternate reality of Genoa City - with the late John as his guide. "Billy's alone. His child is basically in the care of another man, he's lost the love of his life, Mackenzie, and he's kind of ostracized from the rest of Genoa City because he's done it all to himself," sighs Miller. "And now his dead father comes to talk to him, which is always strange."
However, John has an important message for his wayward son. As John takes Billy through the future of G.C., he shows Billy a picture of what his life might be like if he doesn't pull it together. Their first stop? The Restless Style offices in the near future. "The magazine has got awards everywhere, so they're obviously flush with cash, but it's for advertising awards, not journalistic integrity," explains Miller. "But it works for him."
Billy is less pleased when they travel seven years into the future and he realizes that Mac has moved on without him. "That's the hardest thing for him to see," the actor acknowledges, "but there's still this sense of 'I can still win.'"
He becomes emotional, though, when they head to his daughter, Delia's wedding 18 years in the future...and Billy is absent. "She's without her father and it bothers her quite a bit," Miller says. "Billy can't understand why he wouldn't be there. He doesn't know who he's become in the future and now he's starting to worry and be ashamed."
It's then that he breaks down and asks John to help him. "If your dead father comes to visit you, wouldn't you think about changing just a little?" chuckles Miller. "I have yet to see what happens to Billy. But it was an honor to do the show, and Mr. [Jerry] Douglas did a great job. I have to thank everyone for giving me a shot and I really hope I didn't screw it up [laughs]!"

SOW: Future Shock for Billy
Billy takes a trip into the future with his late father John as his guide this week and experiences what life holds for him if he continues on his current destructive path.
"Billy's alone on New Year's Eve," sets up Billy Miller (Billy). "His child is basically in the care of another man. He's lost his standby, Chloe. He's lost the love of his life, Mackenzie. He's kind of ostracized from the rest of Genoa City, and he's done it all to himself. What do philandering playboys do?" ponders Miller. "If they're not philandering, they're getting drunk and feeling miserable about their shell of a life."
Down, out and totally inebriated, Billy heads outside at the stroke of midnight. "He stumbles into the snow and falls on his keister, and the world changes into this hyper-realistic Genoa City," explains Miller. "His dead father comes to talk to him, which is always strange."
John takes Billy on a tour of his not-so-happy future, starting out with a visit to the Restless Style office. "They've got awards everywhere. They're obviously flush with cash," says Miller. "But it's for advertising dollars that they're winning awards, not journalistic integrity."
Next, John and Billy make a stop seven years into the future to check on Mac, which is particularly hard. "[Her life] is devoid of Billy," asserts Miller. John and Billy continue on to the Chancellor mansion, where Chloe and the rest of the family are all celebrating Delia's dance recital. "Billy missed the entire thing, and it bugs him," says Miller, noting that "Chance is there. That's an ongoing struggle."
At the Abbott mansion, the whole family is celebrating New Year's sans Billy. Although he's upset, Billy tries to put on a brave face for John. Then, it's even further into the future: Delia's wedding day. "She's without her father, and it bothers Billy quite a bit," admits Miller. "Billy can't understand why he wouldn't be there. He doesn't know who he has become in the future. He's starting to really worry and be ashamed. That's when he breaks."
Billy begs John to help him change all of this from happening. "If your dead father came to visit you, wouldn't you think about changing...just a little?" poses Miller with a chuckle.
But is Genoa City's philandering playboy really ready to embark on a new path, let alone the straight and narrow one? "Well, it's Billy," grins Miller. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."
