The Masquerade Ball Explodes!
A masquerade ball at the Genoa City Athletic Club turns frightening this week after a gas leak causes an explosion, injuring many and leaving one Genoa City resident dead.
"This is Adam's showdown at the O.K. Corral," explains co-HW Scott Hamner. "People are going to be frantic to find him. There are some very intense and emotional scenes as Sharon and Nick track him down."
Shortly after arriving at the party, Jack informs Nick and Victor that Adam attacked "Emily" and he's on the prowl. Shortly after, Sharon is horrified to discover Adam in her room holding her daughter in his arms. She is frightened because she doesn't know what he is planning to do with the baby. As it turns out, Adam has come to try and convince Sharon to run away with him.
"He's declaring his love for her," explains Scott Hamber. "It's an extremely twisted kind of love. He uses the baby as a bargaining chip. It's heartbreaking and terrifying and horrible all at the same time."
In a moment of desperation, Adam confesses all of his sins -- including stealing Sharon's baby and giving it to Ashley -- but he insists that he really does love her. He finally owns up to all his wicked actions as a last-ditch effort convince Sharon that his feelings for her are true. However, "at this point, Sharon only sees Adam as a monster who has her baby in his arms," explains Scott Hamner.
Later, Nick arrives and Adam flees out the window. Later, Adam calls Sharon and informs her that he's going to turn himself in to the police. He tells her that he's in the basement of the Genoa City Athletic Club. That's when the search begins.
"Everyone begins to frantically search for Adam," reveals Hamner. "They form a posse to go and find him."
During the search, Nick discovers a gas leak, but before everyone can make their escape, a deadly explosion rips through the building, injuring many.
"There's some humor in it though," explains Hamner. "Katherine wakes up to find herself trapped in a bathroom with Jill. Seeing those two stuck together in what could be perceived as a hellish way to spend eternity is going to be fun."
Meanwhile, Billy and Victoria, who left the party together earlier in the evening, are nowhere to be found. "They may be upstairs or they may not," teases Hamner. "We won't know where those two are. But when the explosion happens, they are together in bed, frolicking with wild abandon."
In the midst of all the chaos, Nick frantically searches for Sharon and Faith. He eventually finds them. Faith is crying and Sharon is unconscious on the floor. He is immediately is flooded with gratitude and he's thankful that they're both alive.
Unfortunately, one other Genoa City citizen wasn't so lucky. As the smoke clears, a body is brought up from the basement and carried out of the GCAC. "It's another moment or horror that someone was down there and unable to escape and burned beyond recognition. It could be any one of the characters whom we do not know is safe at the end of the explosion. Adam is definitely one of those people whose body it could be."
