XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

But hey, with all this hockey talk, how about some kudos for BODE MILLER, and his first Olympic gold, in the men's super combined? Way to go, BODE! It looks like maturity, fatherhood, and a changed attitude has really done him good this time.

3 events, and 3 medals. Way better than Torino. :thumbsup2

Yeah, awesome job by Bode. My dad said that he was in 7th place after the downhill part of the combined and then when my sister said she saw he won we didn't believe her. LOL.

USA vs CAN in the Women's hockey gold medal match on Thu.

SWE vs FIN in the bronze medal match.

Another thing that bothers me about NBC's hockey coverage is they keep saying how important it is for Canada to win the gold. Hello, you are an American network and you should be rooting for team USA! Nothing personal, but we who are proud of team USA want us to win, not Canada!

As for ice dancing, it should be illegal for anyone who is not American to dance to country music wearing cowboy costumes. What is that?! JMHO of course. Maybe some Indian folks were offended by the American couple, but I thought they were OK. I guess it's good to experiment with other cultures, but it just weirded me out. I also thought the aboriginal couple was a little over the top, and if they aren't Australian, why? But, whatever.

Wow! I loved the ice dancers from GB (the brother and sister) who did a lift with the girl lifting the guy! So cool.

Davis and White were phenomenal. I liked Virtue and Moier too, but I thought the Americans were a bit more engaging/energetic. HOwever the Canadians were flawless and flowing.

Hey, hockey fans in the US don't call NBC "Nothing But Crosby" for nothing! ;) But personally I'd prefer that the commentators not be "homers".

But to your subject, check out this comparison of the play-by-play from NBC and CTV from last night's game.

A lovely skate by Belbin and Agosto. What're the chances of both US teams medaling? Hmmm...here go the Russians...

Oooooooohh...I can't look....

It's Canada #1!!!!!!!!!! USA #2!! What a fabulous night of skating.

Oh, they are doing the medal ceremony for ice dancing right now... so they do it immediately for some sports... What the heck?

I THINK they do teh medal ceremony at medal plaza for outdoor sports...particularly ones that are a bit far out of the city.

I could be wrong.

Sheesh! If the Russian guy had hoisted the Russian chick up by her waist ropes one more time, I'd have thought he was under the impression he was getting extra points for the move. :lmao: I counted at least FOUR times that he used the ropes instead of actually lifting her, etc. :headache:

Hmmm......Maybe next time the Americans can get smart and use tiny jet packs on their skates to gain some speed. :rotfl2: Or a hydraulic lift for extra height if the girl is more than a waif. Yeah.....that sounds like a plan. :rotfl: :thumbsup2

BTW, does anyone else think those warped Olympic medals are just about the ugliest ones ever? :scared1:

This was truly a GLORIOUS night of figure skating!!!!!! I loved that they all skated clean programs and that they all seemed to be having a wonderful experience.

I still feel that Belbin and Agosto should have taken the bronze however.

The female Russian ice dancer's expression said, "Okaaaaayyyyy.....I guess I'll take this crappy bronze medal if I must......" :rolleyes1

On the subject of ugly Olympic medals, the previous "Ugliest Olympic Medal Ever" winner was the 1992 Lalique one from Albertville. I think France must have saved a fortune on metal. :rotfl2: I remember thinking, "I'd be so POd if I won a medal and all I got was a chunk of crystal trimmed in gold/silver/bronze." :sad2:

I love Lalique. ::yes:: It's French and what better to use it for the medals?

If I want Lalique, I'll buy a vase or a Christmas ornament. For an Olympic medal, I'd want METAL. If you've ever held/worn an Olympic medal, they are incredibly heavy.....and tough. The Lalique ones just looked cheesy, with the bulk of it being crystal and some edges trimmed in metal. Odds are, you won't break a metal medal......can't say the same for a crystal one. I'd hate to accidentally drop my precious Olympic medal, only to see it shatter into pieces. :headache:

There's a reason no one has done it (crystal medal) since, IMHO.

All the medals of one color are cut from the same piece of metal. If they were all put together they would form a large picture. You can't tell me that's not original and neat. I thought the doughnut medals were pretty bad. Who wants a medal that can be used as a frisbee?

Okay, I guess Canada gets points for making them all combine to create one big honking picture. The main reason I don't care for the ones this year are that they are "wavy" instead of flat. They remind me of when our 45s would get too hot and would get all warped. :rotfl2: Then if you tried to play the 45 on your stereo, it even SOUNDED warped. :lmao:

The more I think about it, I still despise those crystal Albertville medals most of all.....That was just a ripoff. No winner will ever be able to let Junior take their Olympic medal to school for show and tell for fear their CRYSTAL medal will not make it home in one piece. :rolleyes1 And the doughnut medals from Turin were hideous as well. I must have blocked those from my memory. :rotfl: They looked like a washer ring or something. The person I know has medals from various Summer Olympics, and all of those are decent looking.
