XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

The guys who brought out the beavers...who else thought their costumes looked like the CM costumes from the Canada Pavilion?

Yay, I think I get to actually start watching something now!

Well, after a well placed commercial break of course. Gag me.

Seriously? Jerry Seinfeld is more important than the closing ceremonies? I have to wait an hour to see one of my favorite bands?

This stinks.

Go tell NBC what you thought about it. I know I did.

I didn't know that they cut the closing ceremonies in half! I just thought it was over when they went to some new show. It ended for me when Michael Buble's portion ended.

I wasn't too impressed with these closing ceremonies to be honest. The opening festivities were far better. It seemed like Russia's portion would never end and also the endless speeches and anthems! I did like Neil Young and Michael J Foxx though.

Loved Buble, Nickleback , Neil Young and Hedley .....Cha Ching........................., could have done without Avril though..

No kidding!

I loved the bit with Michael Buble and the giant beavers and flying moose. But after that it was really very lame. They seem to have run out of creativity. Not to mention the lip syncing again. Oh well, overall it's been a great Games.

It's been fun sharing the Olympics with you all!

Oh please, that was a great, light-hearted closing ceremonies. Ity took the stuffiness out f a usually boring event.

As for talent, there was nothing second rate about that line-up.

Yep, yep, yep! I so agree with this, although I didn't see it all. What I did see was fun, and lighthearted. I did feel that the Russian preview was a bit omninous in comparison! LOL.

All in all a beautiful Olympics in an equally beautiful country hosted by wonderful people. We couldn't have asked for more.

Did anybody else get a little depressed when they put the flame out and declared the games closed? :sad1:

I really enjoyed the ending of the ceremony though with Michael Buble and all the "Made in Canada" stuff. Very cute.

See you all in 2012!

Arriving late - but.. Earlier today I caught the Ice Dancing portion and the "controversy" over the "ropes" on the one pairs outfits were mentioned.. After watching the other pairs perform, I definitely don't think it was fair for the one couple to utilize the ropes to make difficult/tricky moves..

Can anyone explain why this was allowed - since it sounded like there had already been a controversy over this - and will it be allowed in the future?

That's all I got to see today, but it was beautiful! The figure skating is my favorite..:goodvibes

I was curious about the ropes too...

Congrats to Vancouver and the organizing committee on putting together a very entertaining show for all of us. Although the games got off to an unfortunate and shaky start, overall it was two weeks of excellent competition and less politics than we're used to seeing at an Olympics.

Congratulations also to the United States and Canadian teams. An excellent showing by both and we can be proud of the way the team members represented our countries.

NBC's coverage was also excellent. For the most part they stayed away from the fluff and stuck to the competition. I had some issues with how they covered some of the events (for example, if you saw someone skiing the downhill, they either were from Canada or the U.S., a contender, or crashed...and then there's Scott Hamilton's yelling during skating), but the whole experience was visually impressive (although it helped that this was the first Olympics I saw in HD).

But shame on NBC for the stunt they pulled last night, suddenly cutting out of the closing ceremonies at 10:30 ET, to show "The Marriage Ref". Although the show was on the schedule for 10:30, there was no advance warning and they just bailed with no closure. NBC Sports must be livid at what the network did and I'm surprised at the action taken by what is usually a classy network. And not that it matters, but I gave that show about 10 minutes and I'd classify it as unwatchable.

They did say that they would show the rest at 11:30. We recorded it after the news. But, they should've known that the Olympics closing ceremony would last longer than scheduled.

>>But shame on NBC for the stunt they pulled last night<<

NBC has a history of doing this, the 1968 New York Jets-Oakland Raider playoff game known as the "Heidi" game.

NBC pulled a "Heidi" on US last night.

What are you guys talking about?? I saw the whole thing. There was no interruption of coverage. Maybe my network decided to do something different.

I was thinking of saying that too, but I figured I was too old for some to get the reference.

Interesting that Jennasis was able to see it all; I wonder if it was an affiliate decision?

Perhaps. Remember that Disney cartoon "Prep and Landing" that aired last year? Some networks (including mine) did not air the show when they were supposed to. I think there might have been a sporting event on instead? Also, The Osbornes had a variety show that my affiliate refused to carry.

Hedley? ewwwwwwwwwwwww

I would have liked to have seen the likes of Our Lady Peace, Finger Eleven, Barenaked Ladies, Gordon Lightfoot, Jully Black, K'Naan, Diana Krall, Blue Rodeo, Stabilo, Feist, Mother Mother, to name a few.

Exactly, the acts they had on were all geared towards the teen crowd. It's not that they lack talent it's just that the organizers should have added more mainstream talent. Where was Great Big Sea - if you want to get an audience moving they are the band to do it.

I loved all the parts before the bands came on. All the poking fun at our stereotypes - that was lighthearted.

My other issue was that the show just seemed to end, it didn't feel like there was any closure to it; I wanted to get all choked up and it didn't happen. And in true Canadian fashion, I'm sorry, but this is just my opinion. If other people enjoyed the show as it was, that's great.
