XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

Well, I thought Johnny Weir's outfit looked like a corset as well. This is the first time I've ever seen him skate, or even heard of him, to be honest. I found his costume to be edgy and pushing the envelope but not so much that it distracted from his very considerable talent. I like it when they shake things up a little, otherwise it gets stuffy and routine.

:thumbsup2 Anyone who has ever followed Johnny knows that he loves to shake things up. I remember he did an interview years back (don't remember if it was prior to SLC or Torino), where he said something to the effect of those who don't like his style and attitude can just "eat it". THAT'S why I adore him. He is unapologetic about his style. I get it. :thumbsup2

But it's okay for you to levy backhanded insults at me? gotcha.

I LOVE Johnny Weir. I think his skating is breathtaking, and his personality is awesome. I always look forward to seeing what he's wearing, because he always chooses outfits that get people talking. Last night, he performed phenomenally...but his outfit looked like something one of the ladies would ear. Maybe it was the corset....maybe it was the feathers....maybe it was the hot pink? Who knows.

But he did "rock the tassle" last night!

You like his costumes because they get people talking but not the pair from the other night (that also got people talking). ;)

Different reasons. I thought the pairs outfit was ugly. Johnny's outfit was par for the course for Johnny. It also wasn't UGLY.

My Mother called me this morning to tell me she had a new skater boy boyfriend...LOL

Johnny Weir :)

I didn't see his performance so I will have to try and find it on the net but she says that he has tons of personality and passion that comes through when he skates.

I think all three of the US guys are adorable. :lovestruc

I felt really sorry for Lindsay Jacobelllis. I guess it just goes to show you that anything CAN happen in these sports . . .

Tonight's line up should be great - Shawn White in men's half-pipe, Shani Davis in mens 1000 meter, Lindsay Vonn in women's downhill, Apolo Ohno in men's short track 1000 meters.

I got the popcorn ready.:thumbsup2

Watching women's curling now (well, half-watching while I work) to kill time until Finland-Belarus hockey at 2 pm. I have to admit, I think I'm over curling now. I've had my fill.

Back to an ice skating question - is there something wrong with Dick Button, specifically his feet? I noticed him sitting next to Bob Costas last night, and his shoes were very large, both in length, width and height. My mom even called me asking the same question because it was so noticeable. (At least he didn't have pink tassles on them though. :rotfl:)

I noticed that too, but I thought maybe he was wearing boots because it's Canada and that's what you wear when you're in Canada?

I was SICK for her last night-4 years of getting bashed for her little ego stunt in Torino and then to get DQ'd in your shot for redemption. I can hear EVERY coach of every sport using her story as an object lesson from now until the end of time.

Man, I am getting no sleep these days keeping up with all the coverage, but I LOVE IT.

We are going to Finland Vs Belarus hockey in about an hour :cool1:

Yesterday we wandered around downtown for a few hours and I have to say Vancouver looks great. There were tons of street performers, everything is clean, and everyone is just so happy. We went to the mint pavillion and checked out the million dollar coin, it's not nearly as large as I thought it would be. And we also saw the mascots on ice which was AWSOME and free! I'll post up some pics of the city when I get home tomorrow. I gotta say it's also really cool seeing people from all over the world here.

Just watching the ladies downhill. That poor Swiss girl fell hard. They showed her sitting there crying, I felt so bad for her

I saw on our news station here that you can't get a close view of the Olmpic Cauldron, that it's all blocked off. you are so lucky to be there soaking up all that great atmosphere! Enjoy!!

You're so lucky to be able to be there! Have fun at the game, and I look forward to seeing your pics!

2-1 Finland ovr Belarus currently. I've been flipping back and forth between this and women's XC skiing.

I guess Lindsay Vonn's shin wasn't bothering her too much!!! :thumbsup2

I hope they will show this tonight in prime time, for those of us who cannot watch TV during the day . . .
