Hi all, I was hoping some of you folks might offer me some suggestions. Last year my one month old daughter passed away on 12/23. Needless to say that Christmas last year was less than a happy occasion. This year my wife wanted to avoid being around all the friends and families at Christmas time as she is worried about ruining Christmas for everyone else by being sad. In an effort to bring some Christmas joy back into our life I booked a room at the Contemporary resort from 12/23 to 12/26, I also booked the candle light processional on xmas eve.

Here's where I need your help...I've stayed at Disney hundreds of times over the years, at all the resorts but I've never stayed on Christmas. What other things can I do to bring a little joy back into our lives??? Any suggestions? Any special things the resorts do for the holidays?? on Christmas day??? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry so long but I just want to make sure this trip is very special.

I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot even imagine your pain. I am in tears just reading your post. I can understand how this would be a painful time of year for you and your wife.

I have never been to WDW during Xmas, but I wanted to bump you up as I am sure others out there can offer suggestions.

I hope you do have a nice Christmas stay and find some happiness and peace.

Take care. I'll be thinking of you.

So sorry to hear about your DD, please accept my sincerest sympathies and prayers for your and yoru wife's hearts this Christmas.

I too have been to Disney many, many times, but never at Christmas...that is until this year. We will be there 12/19-12/23 and I have been scouring these boards for as much info as possible. Hope some of this helps you...

Maybe have a small Christmas Tree delivered to your room? The Disney Florist has these for about $80, or you can bring your own 2-3 ft tree. They also have a larger tree for larger $ of course.

I read on these boards that in the past Disney has placed very small (4" I think) stockings with candy in them on each resort door Christmas morning.

How about a PS for breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe and then a tour of the resort...sounds like it is beautiful for Christmas.

Can't think of anything else at the moment, but if I come up with anything else, I will post it.

Hope this helps...

I hope this trip brings some magic back to your holidays.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Sleigh Ride available at WL. Call ahead and make a reservation.

2. The Yultide Tour, You visit three of the parks, a resort and the Xmas Warehouse. This is a really fun behind the scenes tour of just how Disney decorates for the holiday season.

3. An evening at the GF, enjoy a drink, roasted chestnuts or gingerbread in the lobby as you enjoy the holiday music of the caroling cms and the band.

4. Osbourne Lights I would suggest a dinner at Mama Melrose then wander over to the wonderful light display. It is one of our holiday favorites.

5. You might want to think about a spa treatment for two at the GF or Saratoga Springs Spas.

6. The evenings at EC we find very festive and could stand for hours watching the Lights of winter.

The year my husband died I took my 3 kids to WDW. It was a great place to escape the memories back home of other Christmases.

We just enjoyed the parks. Epcot has Santa telling stories.

CBR has a party on Christmas Eve. Not sure what the other resorts do.

It was sad when the Santa at CBR asked my son if his Dad had bought him the truck he had with him.

Just being around others helped so much. Family didn't know what to do with us that year.

I too offer my deepest sympathies!!! WDW is a wonderful magical place anytime but especially at Christmas. I took my daughter there 3 years ago after her dad up and left us suddenly just prior to Christmas. It was so sad for her and WDW helped to make her Christmas very special again. We will be returning this year also. We too will be there at the CR, and at CP on Christmas Eve. I agree that you have to do the Osborne Lights at MGM and be sure to get some hot cocoa at night seeing the lights. The decorations around WDW are unbelieveable. The GF has a huge gingerbread house, Y&BC have neat displays, AKL has a huge display, the Santas around the World at Epcot are wonderful and great stories. We are having dinner at CP on Christmas...can't miss the holiday parade at MK. I know the parks fill up early on Christmas Day so you might want to arrive early on that day. IF you haven't booked a PS for Christmas eve dinner or Christmas dinner you may want to do that, they are booking up. My daughter and I love seeing all the decorations everywhere and really enjoy decorating our tree in our room. I also always have some special Tink surprises for her. You could surprise your wife with something very special. :) Who knows, we may pass each other during our stay.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts and great tips. My DD was born with four different congenital heart defects and passed away during surgery to correct them. If you want more information on congenital heart defects (the leading birth defect in children) check out this web site devoted to promoting knowledge of CHDs.
The child quilt

I really want to have a tree delivered, does anybody know what number I call to arrange that? Is it just the tree or does it come with any lights or decorations?

We have a priority seating at the Rose and Crown on xmas eve and one for the CP that night at 8:15, can't wait.

Any suggestions for a place to eat on Christmas day?

Thanks!

Some resorts have special dinners for Thanksgiving Day. I don't remember if they do this for Christmas also. You could call and ask.

We have been there for a couple Christmas days and ate at our favorite parks. I would suggest a resort restaurant as the parks are very crowded.

Can you plan some special memorial time for your daughter with your wife? Perhaps even just having private time during the fireworks at MK together and a drink after. Just time to reflect and remember.

So sorry for your loss.

The website for the trees is www.disneyflorist.com . Their number is 407-827-3505.

They offer two trees:

The first is the FTD Glad Tidding tree it's a live tree, 18" tall with pine cones and ornaments. $88.99

The second is shown on their websire under Our Own Designs and is called the Mouseketree. Is an artificial 4' tree with lights, ornaments and a hidden "surprise". It looks beautiful and you can bring it home with you...for $299.00.

I hope that you and your wife manage to have a magical Christmas!

:D

So sorry for your loss. Christmas is so special at Disney. You have chosen the best time to go. We did CP on Christmas eve with a ps at LeCellier. On Christmas day we were in the Magic Kingdom. I made a ps for the Liberty Tree Tavern around 5 or 5:30, after the parade. It was great. Even though it was crowded, people were all in the holiday spirit and our family will remember it as one very special Christmas. Don't let the crowds get to you, just go with the flow.
We also had sent down a tree, decs and gifts ahead of time. We even decorated the room with lights and decs.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I think Disney will be a good place to be for christmas. we have been the week before but this will be our first christmas. Call today for christmas day ps. they fill up fast. I would suggest boma.

I would try to make a few PS if you wish to dine in sit down restaurants. I would call immediatly and just see what is available for xmas eve and xmas day. As they started taking the PS for xmas in Oct. and they fill up quickly. If you wait until you arrive you choices will be the fast food locations. Dining at Disney for xmas is VERY popular.

We have enjoyed Yachtsmans St, Flying Fish and Boatwrights for xmas. Yachtsmans is our Fave.

Here is a site with xmas dining info:

Just wanted to thank everyone again! I've got the trip planned out and my PS's all set up. My wife has even started to get excited about the trip and best of best, we found out last week that she is pregnant again!!! :cool1:

I'll post again when the holidays are over to let everyone know how the trip goes!

Congratulations! That's great news and I hope you have a fantastic trip. We'll be at WDW 12/18-12/30 this year and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it.

My family and I truly wish you best wishes during this holiday season. I do hope that Disney brings a smile and some peace to you. We went last year with some problems and some how they just seem to be put away in a special place for the time you are there. You never forget but you do have an inner peace and happiness.

Relax and enjoy. Merry Christmas and Happy New year. :grouphug:
