Starting on Feb. 1, XM's music channels will no longer have commercials. (Not that there were very many in the first place). The monthly fee is still going to be $9.95. This will surely make Sirius more than a little nervous since that was the point (XM having some music channels with commercials) that they made so often when courting potential customers.

My company sells both Sirius and XM. The buyers figure it's going to be a dog fight for the next 2 years or so, and then one will probably end up buying the other like what has happened with satellite TV. Great for consumers in the meantime!!

Slightly related, AirTran just announced that they will be fitting their planes starting this summer with free XM service.

And JetBlue announced something similar for their flights. I almost never fly, but that would be cool to be able to listen to XM if I were on a flight. :D

there weren't many commercials to start with but the ones that were on were worse than those on a regular radio station, because at least the ones on a normal radio station pertain to the listeners, while the ones on xm are random advertising the music. i'm glad that it will become commercial free.
