How many people have satellite radio? I know there is a DISer with a XM SR clipart in their siggy, but I don't know who it is?

A friend of my DH brought him one up from the States (it's not available yet, in Canada), and I've really been enjoying it! :)

I haven't tried out all the channels, I seem to have gotten stuck on just a handfull of them, but I've had it on almost everyday, all day! :)

Anyone else listen to XM Satellite radio? :)

Yes! and I love it! ....we bought it for DH to put into his car and it has never made it there! lol
I have taken it over...and love it! The radio here in No. Fl. is AWFUL! XM gives so many choices!...I love the Cinemagic, the Classical...60,70,80s...

It's me! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I love XM! We have had it for almost two years now and I can't imagine being without it. :D It's so great to be able to listen to whatever kind of music I'm in the mood for. I now also have an XMPCR on my computer where I can see all of the channels and what they are playing while I am listening. My favorite artists are stored and I get a pop-up telling me when any of my favorite artists are playing. I can then choose whether I want to switch to that station to listen. It's too cool!

Dh and I have had XM in our cars for more than a year now. We'll never go back to regular radio. We just love it.

I knew I'd seen it somewhere, accomp! :) Hmmm....I could get one for my computer? Christmas is coming...lol. :)

Holycow, DH had it in the vehicle for two days before I ....um...acquired it. ;)

I haven't put on the regular radio either since we got the XM, Tina. :)

We have XM Radio at the restaurant where I work and I love it! I am constantly flipping through the stations...I love the Cinemamagic one and the Soundtracks one! :)

How do you go about getting it for your home???

Our radio stinks and I prefer radio over tv. Do they have a portable walkman thing I could wear?

I love LaughUSA (#151). It has lots of clean comedy including old stuff from the 40's, classics like Bob Newhart, and lots of new ones like Jeff Foxworthy.

Mystery Machine, an American friend of ours brought us one, we can't buy them here, and I don't know where he bought it. I would think any of your major electronic stores would carry them. :) As far as the walkman-type option goes, I don't know if anything like that is available. Maybe one of our other XM radio users knows?

Here's a link to their site XM Satellite Radio , and a link to the channels available, listed here.

:)

Mystery Machine,

I don't *think* XM is ready quite yet to go portable. You still do need to be in line with the actual sattellite to receive a signal. However, there are some really slick little pieces that are sort of plug and play. You can use it in your car and in your house. You just take the module with you from one to the other, and plug it in to the XM ready receiver. I will check with the buyer here at work and find out what manufacturers are making this piece for you.

It's very cool technology, and as soon as I convince DH that I *need* it, one is going in my car too!

We have XM in our Tahoe and we love it......John-Cole neer wants us to get off of Disney Radio though...but I also love the 80's and 90's, L.A. Kiss and The Heart. Like someone else said I can't get off the stations I already love to listen to others. I know J.C. had it on Special X once and it was some of the stupidest songs I've ever heard.

On the issue of portability, they do have an XM boombox. They keep coming out with new ways to listen to XM, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a walkman-type thing sometime.

:D

You are 100% correct. I also know there are plans to get another satellite or two up this year sometime. The technology is RACING and the manufacturer's literally cannot keep up. It's pretty exciting stuff.

I'm glad someone brought this up! :) I've been thinking about getting XM ever since I saw (heard) a demo of it at the Atlanta Auto Show a few years ago. I've never known anyone who had it so wasn't quite sure it was worth the cost...of course after reading this thread it sure sounds like it would be.

I don't really care for the XM receiver that mounts on the dash. Do most of you have that? If so, any problems with it? For those of you who have an installed receiver, did it come with your vehicle when you purchased it or is it aftermarket? Any particular brands that are better than others?

Thanks for any info!

I heard a commercial for XM radio last night...it sounded like they said "many" of the channels are commercial free. So now they have commercials on some of the channels? Isn't that why you pay, to avoid commercials? But then, that used to be the idea behind paying for cable television.
We used to have DishTV, and I did enjoy the music channels on that. Too bad the darn association around here has a deal with the cable company...no dishes allowed.:(

HuggaBaloo,

If it's been a couple of years since you saw the demo, you might want to check out XM's website to see the latest car and home units. There are a lot more choices now and they are sleeker than when XM first came out. I think that I probably have the kind that you are referring to in my minivan. It works just fine, but I don't even think that they actually make that model anymore as they continue to come out with newer models.

The news/talk channels have commercials and some of the music channels do. Many of the music channels do not. This has been the case with XM since the beginning.

I very rarely hear commercials as most of the channels I listen to are commercial-free. The music channels that do have them play a very small amount of them- nothing like what you would hear on AM/FM. Plus, there are so many channels you can switch to if a commercial does come on. :D

We have it in our car and love it!
