XM radio...who has it?

I love Sirius! We had both for about a year, one came with our car the other we received as a gift. We tore the XM out of the car and bought another Sirius receiver (two more as a matter of fact). It seems like Sirius technology is far ahead of XM. NASCAR is moving to Sirius and it has the NFL which was a huge selling point for us. As far XM not paying one person a huge amount of money, they just paid Oprah a ton of cash for a show she will do 30 minutes once a week. They are paying her way more than Stern got paid if you work it out by air time.

I've had XM for about 1 1/2 years and love it. I can't compare it to Sirius (I love all of the people that are Sirius fans that rip on it without either trying it or knowing all of the facts) since I've never tried it but since I have it and my in-laws have it and we only pay $125 total for both for the year, I'm not going to switch when I'm only paying $5.20 a month :thumbsup2

hey yeah-- thats right! :rolleyes1

If Sirius has better technology, what do they offer that compares to Inno??? Why does XM have the capabilities for more channels?

XM was paying $2 million per year for NASCAR, Sirius is paying over $20 million, so they need to have NASCAR bring them about 140K subs to break even. Considering the races are on TV and all over AM/FM, seems like a tough sell...

I will take 2600 baseball games over 256 NFL games any day, but thats just me.

I forgot to say what the fee was. I think the first radio is $12.99 a month then any additional ones are maybe $6 additional. It is set up so it automatically gets charged each month, so i never see a bill, but I think that is about right. There was a small initial fee also to get it set up. Doing it online was about $10, I think.

To be honest, the ONLY reason i LOVE SIRIUS is b/c of Howard.

i could have waited until FM radio became (almost) obsolete and bought satellite- kind of like the way we all watch TV right now- you either have cable- or forget it. someday it may be the same for radio.

i think the only reason that satellite radio had become THIS popular is b/c of him- love him or hate him- i think he is the one who has made satellite radio a topic of conversation anywhere you go. why else would people actually demand a certain type of satellite radio in their new cars......

i dont think anyone would really care to debate the subject as strongly as they do if he was not involved at all.

just my opinion- :confused3

no flames :goodvibes

We have it on directv, I couldnt stay on my nordic track without it.I like the 90's its fun to listen to old music.
Its on aol too.

I have both XM and Sirius and let me be honest with you for programming there is no match at all SIRIUS wins hands down......in fact if it weren't for the MLB package I woudln't even have XM and will probably cancel anyway at the end of my contract. The moment the portables come out this summer for SIRIUS I am upping to a lifetime sub.

i would like to clarify my above post--

the only reason i GOT SIRIUS was b/c of Howard.

I do LOVE it because i enjoy listening to the channels for music, comedy etc.

but if i didnt get it for that reason i would not know what i was missing.

We have Sirius and we love it. In fact I am getting ready to buy another receiver. We listen to it all of the time. The only time we don't listen to it is when we are in my car because I don't have a receiver.

We have XM, and Onstar in our truck, we love them both!!!!!!

Started off with XM and Sirius about 6 months ago to see which I liked better, after a month got rid of Sirius because XM is a much better product.. Offer more stations, MUCH better equipment and better positioned to remain a viable company for the long run.

I totally agree with Jon99. :thumbsup2

WE  XM! We bought XM's when they were fresh on the market. Dh was waiting for them to come out. He installed the portables in both cars and bought a boom box. My favs are 20 on 20 and E! on 162. Dh enjoys Opie and Anthony on 202 (not looking for a flame war from Howard fans so don't go there). Plus, we listen on the internet.

When we bought our mini van last year it came with Sirius and a free 12 month subscription. I just couldn't get used to it. I tried and tried, but just couldn't get into it. Needless to say, we didn't sign up when the renewal was due. Dh installed a Roady a few months after we bought the van and now I'm happy!

I think it is a matter of personal preference. Different things appeal to different people.

I've had it for a year and I love it. I was happy that it came with the car instead of Sirius. Bewtween the Disney channel and XM Kids, the channels don't change very much. However when traveling, I will check the city's traffic and weather so there won't be any surprises.

We've had it for years...have one in the house, one in car and small travel one. I love it...haven't had any problems ever! Enjoy!

ditto

I have an XM radio in my car...I LOVE IT! Best investment I've made in a while. Always good music to choose from and every MLB game live! Its great on road trips and I bought a kit so I can move it inside easily and transmit to my radio...I think I bought it at walmart about a year ago....

Cheers,

Well like I said I have both and have had both and there is no doubt programming wise SIRIUS is much better, in fact isn't even close. XM (at the moment) does have better equipment only because of the portability factor but that changes late summer when they release their portables....oh for Jon just so you know not sure what you have been reading but just to clue you in on some facts XM paid OPRAH 50 large for a half hour of exclusive content, Opie and Anthony (supposed to be XM's shock jock retalliation to Stern did so well in adding subscribers that they are now back on boring Ter Radio as well)that worked out well. XM"s stock has been dropping, their own company said they overshot their projections for this years subs by over a million and since lowered it, their hardware is being outsold 3 to 1 even with the new models. Sirius has jumped from less than 400,000 to almost 4 mil subscribers since November. I too agree they paid WAAYYY too much for Nascar rights esp when it isn't exclusive(sat only) however that being said( and keep in mind I own both) the future for SIRIUS is wayyyyyyyy brighter than that of XM. Sure they paid Stern out the wazoo but have already made it back and then some in subs. If XM ever loses MLB rights you will see them go under faster than the Titanic. Oh did I mentioned they are also being sued by record companies over their new INNO hardware and they will lose because it allows customers to record music without the artist and record company's consent (S50) does the same thing for SIRIUS but they struck a deal beforehand and pay a fee to them for this.

Thats OK- we can all get along! :grouphug:

...here on the boards anyway huh?! :rotfl2: :lmao:

If you think Siriius has better content, thats your opinion, but considering XM has over 2 million more subs it appears that most people disagree with you. XM has MORE channels!!!!!

What you failed to mention is that XM paid $50 million for Oprah and FRIENDS, so its MUCH more than 30 minutes of exclusive content. From a business standpoint, Oprah & Friends will be a MUCH better financial deal than Stern..

You have me confused.. Sirius paid about $500 million for Stern, you claim they have made that back and then some, you claim they have added about 3 million subs since Stern.. How do those numbers translate into a profit? If what you say is true, why has Stern been critical of his former listeners on his show for not switching to Sirius?

Because if you look at the brochures, there are some clear programming differences between the companies. For some people, that makes the choice clear. It was for us.

You mentioned cable, too. If we finally upgrade from rabbit ears, we're probably going with satellite. There are two major services - Dish and Direct. There is a clear different between them. Dish's low priced package may be super cheap, but a handful of those channels are Christian programming. As a house of non-Christians, it makes no sense for us to pay for that. We'll go with another product that better suits our needs.

The difference of a few channels, quantity wise, means nothing if I will never listen/watch them. It's about asking what me, personally, will be entertained by. While I don't think I'll ever really listen to the Sirius Playboy channel, I did "opt-in" to support their varied programming options.
