XM radio...who has it?

another thing you may want to consider is going on-line and listening for free.

i know SIRIUS has a 3 day free trial on their site- not sure about XM.

it is really great to be able to listen through the internet. i work from home and sit at my computer all day. in the morning i have to use my boombox to listen to Howard- but as soon as he goes off- i listen to SIRIUS from the internet. Howards show is supposed to be coming to the internet in a few months-- cant wait. sometimes i have my boombox blasting and my house windows are open--- dont REALLY want to neighbors hearing some things that are said on his show--- funny (or gross) as they are, they are for my ears only! :thumbsup2 and would not give up listening if my life depended on it.

actually DH and i were in mexico for howard's first broadcast- i am such a stern freak- i packed my boombox and took it with me! and yes! it came in "pretty good" ....for being in mexico!

check out the free trial before buying.

I have XM and love it. I haven't listened to public radio in a year. It stays on constant. I have a 2 hour commute each day I work, and it has saved my sanity. Love the book channel, BBC world news, and of course my 80s! :thumbsup2

I have had XM in both my car and my wife's car. Mine is a roady 2 unit that I move between my two cars. My wife's is built in. I also use the website at work to listen during the day. My commute is 32 miles each way in Boston traffic. I would NEVER get rid of it. Between the dedicated radio stations(no commercials), news radio station (that have commercials), Nascar radio, and the MLB broadcasts there is plenty to listen to including comedy channels, cut and uncut! The traffic station for boston is far more accurate than local stations and plays repeatedly so there is little waiting for a report. We pay $12.95 for the first unit and $6.99 for the second. My wife loves listening to E! radio and I use it at least 40-50 hours a week, so for us it is worth it.

I've enjoyed XM radio since Christmas. I only have it in the car, but that's where I listen most to the radio. I like choosing what type of music/talk I'm interested in at the moment. I listen mostly to Broadway, Classical, and Laugh (family-friendly comedy --well most of the time it's what I call family-friendly). We listened for a short while to the 40's channel today. That was kind of interesting - I like a lot of that music as well.

We recently got it for my parents as well. They do a lot of traveling, so it's great to not have to keep finding/switching channels from place to place.

I got Sirius at Christmas and it was the best present ever. Lots of channels. I love the BLues channel, Blue collar comedy, Talk stations and my favorite The Wave (80's New Wave!). We tried out XM and didn't like it or their customer service. Sirius has been the best all the way around. Besides they have 2 Disney Stations!!

My DH and I both have XM in our cars, and we also bought his father a radio and subscription for Xmas. We all have different music tastes and are still big fans so far (Esp. in the mornings when we don't have to listen to that mindless DJ banter). DH will tune it to the Money news channels (can't remember the name) in the morning for part of the drive, music for the rest, and when he's had a bad day at work, listens to the comedy channel on the way home ;) I am a big Fred & Lucy addict (alternative music), can't get enough. DH's father is rather religious, he really enjoys the Christian music/talk radio and the country stations. We compared channels between XM and Sirius, and XM just had more of what we are interested in. Never have had reception probs in country or city. I believe we pay $12.99/mos for the first radio and $6.99 for each subsequent radio.

XM also allows subscribers to listen for free online

I've had XM for about 2 years and don't know how I lived without it. Wife loved it so much I put a reciever in her car last winter. I drive alot and have always hated the regular radio. I'll never go back. :thumbsup2

I get XM stations with my Directv subscription.

That being said, I sort of forget that they are part of our programming package. During the Christmas season, I would keep the four or five Christmas channels one, and I did like the Fred station-which was old school 80's alternative (The Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, Depeche, etc.) I was in the mood for old school alt a few days ago and Fred was then current alternative, which was NOT what I was looking for.

I'm honestly not that impressed with it and I hardly ever listen to it.

Sat radio is head and shoulders above AM/FM. No commercials, different genre's, better mixes.

That being said, Sirius is head and shoulders above XM. Better content, better talk radio, and most of all better music selection.

DH had XM for a couple of years, then had both XM and Sirius for about 6 months (he is a MAJOR music fan, plus he works out of his car so has gotta have good tunes pirate: ), then switched to Sirius only. He thinks Sirius has much better music than XM, and likes their general format better (DJs who talk a bit, rather than just impersonal tune-spinning like on XM).

Sorry, I don't remember the cost and DH is asleep so I can't ask him.

We have had XM for about 6 months & love it! Having Radio Disney & XM Kids available has eliminated me having to switch out tapes for the kids. When they aren't in the car I enjoy a couple of the country stations. DH & I like listening to some of the talk stations when the kids are busy with GBAs or a movie on long trips. It is great not having to fiddle with the radio when you are traveling to find the local stations. :)

Started off with XM and Sirius about 6 months ago to see which I liked better, after a month got rid of Sirius because XM is a much better product.. Offer more stations, MUCH better equipment and better positioned to remain a viable company for the long run.

Love XM!

Have had it in a vehicle we bought about 10 months ago. Told DH if he'd let me put an XM radio receiver in our other car I'd stop driving his so much :) -so just got another. Paying monthly it's $12.99 for the first radio, $6.99 for the second. I was told you can add 2-5 radios at an additional $6.99 each on a family plan.

It puts my kid's in such a good mood on the way to school to listen to Radio Disney! I've got several other music stations, fox news, cnn headline, . . . on my presets :thumbsup2

I got my dh XM for Christmas and he loves it! It's like $12.95 a month. Whenever I drive his van, I love it, too! And my teenage dd loves it!

When I get a new vehicle, we're going to get XM for that, too!

We got a new car in March it had an XM radio. I drove to WDW in April and kept it on XM kids for the whole ride. The kids loved it. I like to drive and frequently take the kids on trips of an hour or more to Long Island New Jersey and Ive the weekend I took them to Sesame Place. It is great not losing the signal and having to look for the next station.

We just got Sirius and love it!

Although I love Howard Stern, I didn't get to listen to him much previously since I work 3:30-11:30am. Now, I can listen to the west coast feed, or a rebroadcast of a previous show! :yay:

I also like the 80s station, E! and the comedy channels.

DH is the in process of buying car kits & mounts for our other 2 vehicles. This way we can swap the receiver out depending on what we are driving. Dh & I both commute 40+ miles each way into Boston, but on opposite shifts, so this works well for us.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

DH and I listened to the E! True Hollywood story on the SIRIUS E! channel on the way home from Disney one time....it was about Suzanne Somers of all people- you would think- who really cares! but it was kinda interesting! :rotfl2:

Sirius...

We have it for about 3 years now. Couldn't tell you what the monthly rate or yearly rate is for it because when we purchased it we bought it outright. I believe it cost about $400 for a lifetime membership. So I guess you could say each month it just get cheaper over the longer run - we HAD to have it to listen to the NFL football games - gotta hear the Saints play and have the game called by WWL 870am - Kenny Wilkerson, Henderson and Hokie. There is nobody to compare to that talented announcers.

We love it ours.

We have XM and do like it. I find that a lot of stations seem to rotate the same music all day. They don't have any DJ's, just playing music and probably once or so an hour it does the call name of the station (Lucy, Ethel, whatever). I like having Radio Disney on XM for my kids.

I've heard their customer service sucks though. My sister went thru a stupid ordeal with them.

I LOVE our XM's! We each have the roady2 which we put in ourselves with no problem and no technical abilities!
