XM radio Renewal amount...ARE THEY FREAKIN NUTS!!!!

I just called when I realized they just auto renewed our subscription. They charged $188for a year when I paid $130 for it last year. I got it reduced to what I paid last year. I may not be renewing it again. :(

WOW! That is a lot, I had no idea. When I bought my DH his XM years ago we paid $300ish for the Lifetime subscription. It is only for one radio but he takes it from the car into the house and to his office using the "boombox."

Like you we have a life time deal. Ours is for 2 radios. We have had a long time.

We just bought a Buick that came with a free XM package for 6 months, and DH has a Ford with Sirius -- my question is how do I get both cars on the same plan? The sales guy that we bought the Buick from mentioned the lifetime plans that you can buy online, but I had never heard of that before.

So, I have two questions, (1) what are they charging you for your radio service; and (2) what's the best deal (and what are the calling it) you got for your annual renewal.

This is the breakdown on my bill for service:

1st Radio: $139.72 + $21.38 (US Music Royalty Fee)=$161.10
2nd radio: $ 96.99 + $10.47 (US Music Royalty Fee) = $107.46

Thanks, and let me know how good a deal you've gotten upon renewal.

OK...here are my numbers.

(Radio #1) Nothing - the primary radio is on a Lifetime service plan. My OOP costs a few years ago was about $210 which was done through a series of deeply-discounted XM gift card purchases back when Target was selling Sat Radio. Otherwise, at the time, lifetime service was running about $300.

(Radio #2) $9.95 a month -- this radio is a portable MP3-like device.

As I am considering cancelling Radio #2 (lack of use), I may contact customer care to see what kind of bone they want to throw at me, if anything at all...

I'm not certain if you can do anything. Even though SiriusXM is the same company for both Sat Radio providers, they still operate as independent services.

If you like to ask questions via these type forums, I recommend you visit XM411.com (this forum has been on the internet since the early 2000's and is run by a reputable sat radio dealer from the NYC area).

let it lapse and they will be calling you on a daily basis to come back. we also paid the $20 for 5 months thru nov. I let mine go and they called and offered it to hubby who has since taken the deal. I could care less so I dont want it. They call him almost every day to get our business back for my car. Its the principal of it to me. Im not going to pay $2.99 every month for royalty fees plus taxes.. Hubby got something like $15 for 5 months for the online/phone deal. I think his bill for the 5 months total was $45.

Thanks! I def. need to do a little investigation before shelling out big bucks again...

I second this post. DH's car had the first year of Sirius free when we purchased it. When it was time to renew this past June, they would not package his Sirius radio with our existing XM account. They said they are still two different companies when it came to the actual subscriptions/paying for service. They wouldn't even give the family plan rate per month either for DH's radio. Since we already had two radios, they wouldn't add DH's as a third because it was a Sirius radio. So, they wanted full price for that radio per month. We refused it since we are already paying full price with XM for our 1st radio, and about $8 per month for the 2nd radio.

FYI, the renewal with Sirius was last June and we just recently, in early December got the first, and only offer to come back. It was a pitiful offer, I think like $20 off the annual fee, so we just ignored it.

For any of you that have cancelled your service and restarted do they charge you a start up fee again? What were the charges?

XM service is awful. We've never had anything but problems with their billing department, including getting billed for the same radio 3 times a month. Customer service is terrible as well, the best service I got was speaking with a manager one morning but it still didn't help in terms of billing. I don't have XM anymore because of all these problems, and although I miss my XM stations, the service was just so frustrating.

We purchased an '10 Odyssey in June. Had 90 days free xm/sirus. The dealer said we would get paperwork in the mail to renew it - which we never did. We called the day after it expired to see how much renewal would be since we had just headed out for a road trip. The prices were well over $200. Neither of us wanted to pay that much. I did alot of research and found a deal were it was $77 a month. I called them up and asked for that plan. They tried to sell me a more expensive plan but I insisted on the $77 plan. I got it!! It ended up being about $99 with the royality fees. I didn't feel comfortable giving them a cc for auto renewal. they mailed me a bill - charged $2 extra. But it keeps them from charging me a bigger amount next year. We only listen to about 6 different music stations. It is for XM only which is okay with us.

Glad I researched it first.

They called us in November (after we had it free for 3 months for our new car) to renew and we told them we weren't interested and it was too expensive. They then offered $77 (plus whatever fees...came to $91) for a year, so we took them up on it. I usually listen to my ipod or cd's but my 14 year old son loves the hairnation station, lol...

We have Sirius, and I think it's way too expensive. We are charged 4x a year, and it's $70-something each time. (We have 2 Sirius radios). I envy those of you who said it's $77 a YEAR!

If you cancel is there a connection fee? And how much is it?

We allowed ours to expire and the fee was something like $15.00 or $25 to reconnect, it was waived though after my husband told them he was not paying them for doing nothing but pushing a button :rotfl2:

My XM is about $45 a quarter. When I called to cancel they offered me five months for $20 to stick around. I went back to that, and then they went back to charging me $45 a quarter, which is $15 a month, and worth it to me.

(This is in my car, btw.)

The XM in my mini-van was up for renewal last month and I canceled it. I was so supprised that they did not try to talk me into a 6 month subscrition since I told them I was canceling since i'm turning in the mini-van in 6 month.
DH's has sirius in his jeep, it came with a years subscription. We also have a plug and play sirus radio, I think we pay $156 a year for it. I'm sure I will find out the amount soon since I think it will be renewed soon.

So I bought my nephew an XM radio for Christmas and before I decided to give it to him I wanted to know how much monthly service was going to. So I called and requested the $77 and was told by the first the person I spoke with that they could not give me that promotion. So after a moment they transfered me to a department that "deals with valuable customers like yourself". Apparently this was the retention deparment. I was also intially told that they could not give me the $77/month promotion. So I told them that I was prepared to cancel my exsisting subscription..after supposedly confired with a supervisor I was told that I could have the $77/month promotion. The lady proceeded to ask for my radio ID number and when I explained that this was a Christmas gift and that I wanted to call and start the subscription closer to Christmas they placed a note on my account.

SO fast forward to today..my nephew calls and states that he has the radio in place and requests that I start his subscription. So I call back assuming that this should be relatively simple..well of course not..I was told that since this was a second line on my account (which I made VERY clear earlier in the month) that it was not eligible for the 77 discount. So I proceeded to threaten to leave AGAIN..miraculously when she came back from getting "approval" the price had actually dropped to 63.80 for his radio. But before that she "accidentally"charged my account for an additional year for my radio..which was not up for renewal yet...UGH!!! Also I confirmed that when my account was up for renewal in 2 months that I would be charged the 77/month..which they claimed I would be..

All I can say is that the customer service sucks and as a loyal listener for 4 years it is sad that in order to get any promotion that you have to threaten to leave before they will try to help you..if it wasn't for acouple of stations that I love I would drop it in a heartbeat.

I am on my second 5 months' at @ $23. I canceled our portable XM radio and kept the one in the car. They offered the deal on our car radio and I took it. Called to cancel it after the first 5 months and they offered it to me again. I need to call and 'try' to cancel it again soon... :lmao:

just got my bill in the mail after the $20/5 ran out (i asked that they send me a bill before auto renewal kicks in)...Called up to cancel and they offered the 20/5 again - I said no. He asked why and prompted me to say, cutting back on your budget? I agreed and he offered me three months free...I just have to call back in March and I am eligible for "whatever the best plan is at the time including the 20/5". I did do this new years eve day, so maybe they didn't want to lose headcount by years end.
