Xcaret Question

I'd like to spend the day with my family at Xcaret, but the DCL excursion allows far too little time there. Any ideas on how to do a longer tour on our own, or perhaps return on our own at a later time? The ferries may be a limiting factor, I can't tell from what I've read. Getting stranded is NOT an option I want to flirt with, so I may have to go with the DCL excursion.

I would go with the DCL excursion, even though it allows a limited amount of time.
We did that with RCCL when we were on Voyager of the Seas. I was glad we did because the ferry was running late and I think the ship ended up waiting for us. Since it was their excursion, there was no problem. I think we had to take both a ferry and a bus (not 100 percent sure, as it's been a long time). I know the Magic stays there pretty late, but I don't think the ferries run very late so you could still be stranded.
The only bad thing is that you will DEFINITELY feel like there is not enough time. There is a lot that goes on at Xcaret at night, and even during the day there is so much to see. But it's worth it, even for a limited amount of time (although I have to admit that we had a BLAST on the Jeep Safari--I would highly recommend that one, too).

if you want to do longer and on your own without a lot of travel time, try Chanakaab in Cozumel. That is where we usually go, and it is quick, easy and something you can definetly do on our own and stay for a lot longer. I just don't think there is any quick way to get to Xcaret from Cancun or Cozumel...

I hear ya. I have already been thinking about doing Chankanaab on my own instead, and just avoiding the time and hassle of going to the mainland. Xcaret sounds great, but it may be best to leave it for another trip. Another reason to go back to Cozumel!
