I see the guy at the piano pick up the napkin and tip, read the request and hang his head down in defeat! He looked up at us and shook his head with a mixture of pity and resignation. “What did you request!” Dear David would not tell me. When it was our guy's turn at the mic, he explained/apologized that this request came with a fast pass so he had to do it. And he started hammering out the opening notes to …. Poison’s Talk Dirty To Me.And as the song progressed, sweet & shy Dave proceeded to belt out the song from his seat. In fact, it was only the pianist and him singing the song. The other patrons in the bar chose this moment to go to the bathroom, order drinks, fill up their popcorn baskets.
I remember that a bit differently. I believe the guy chuckled when he read my request. The head hanging in defeat, and the explanations/apologies came after he played the song. And I have to give him credit, he did do a really good job on that song. And there was a good crowd response when he announced he'd be playing a song by Poison, but it fizzled out during the first verse. I don't know if they were expecting "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" or what. Sure, it's easy to blame the NyQuil and beer, but the truth is I wanted to hear them play that song. They don't say, "pretend you're a DJ and pick a song everyone will like", they say "request your favorite song". It's not my favorite song, but I do like it. Although I was having fun, I was growing tired of all the 70's classic rock that had been played all night. I wanted to request something different, totally unexpected, and yes, a little bit goofy.

I suppose next time I'll have to pick a song with a more obvious Disney connection. Maybe something by the band Cinderella!
