Wyndham RCI trade into DVC in early April?

Our spring break is always in early April which falls right around Easter except when Easter is late (2011, 2014, etc.) We have been happy renting 2 BDR Pres. units from Wyndham owners at other locations (WI Dells) and like Wyndham and plan to visit other locations but found that we missed onsite perks (ME, dining plan, transportation) when we rented at WBC. It would encourage me to take the plunge into (resale!) Wyndham ownership if I thought there was a decent chance that we could trade into a 1 bdr DVC occasionally for Spring Break. Is that at all realistic given that I would plan 12+ months in advance, be flexible re: resorts and be diligent about checking what was available or is that still total pie-in-the-sky for Easter weeks? Any clue what we would need in terms of Wyndham location or points to have enough trading power to even be eligible for such a trade? TIA

I don't think it's realistic for routine but it may happen part of the time, esp if Easter is a different time. Disney does deposit Easter and Christmas (didn't generally with II) but not many units it appears. Since you're thinking of buying Wyndham anyway, you really don't have anything to lose. Buy Wyndham (do your research which you've been doing anyway) and give it a try. You might still consider a small DVC contract for a couple of days combined with a Bonnet Creek stay or an every 3rd year DVC stay. That way you'll still have some of the perks even if staying at Bonnet Creek.

or an every 3rd year DVC stay.

Thanks, I love this idea! How does it work? Could I buy a contract 1/3 the size of what I would need and bank points for two years? Or bank for one year and then book and borrow in the next? What UY would I want for early April trips?

In general, I don't recommend buying a timeshare for so specific an exchange purpose. Too many things can change to make it impossible for you to trade in this way, and things are *always* changing.

If you were more broadly interested in Wyndham's resort portfolio, then it would be a different story. If you were more broadly interested in timeshare exchange generally, then Wyndham might not be the most efficient option.

April would be the best but Feb or March would be Fine also, even Dec wouldn't be bad.

Brian, since they had stayed at Wyndham and were investigating, I assumed that they were interested in Wyndham for it's own system and that the chance of a DVC exchange was above and beyond. Generally I don't recommend buying just to exchange though I think that for DVC, it could work for some to buy something for exchanging though I don't think Wyndham would be the one I'd chose for that purpose.

Thank you!

Yup. We like to take fun spring break trips, but can't do Disney every year so Wmsburg, Dells, Smoky Mtns are good "driveable" options for us thru Wyndham. The idea of every 3 years with DVC has me really intrigued, though. I'll have to sit down with the math and see which one makes the most sense for us. Thanks for your help.
