We are looking at the Armed Forces Vacation Club site and see that we can get a week in a 2 bedroom that sleeps 8 for a week of our trip at either Wyndham Cypress Palms or Silver Lake Resort.

I have checked the reviews of both on Trip Advisor and they seem to get pretty similar ratings.

Has anyone stayed at these and can give us an idea of which one to choose?

We will be a party of 3 adults and 5 children so we definitely will need all the space we can get!

Silver Lake is probably more convenient in terms of getting back and forth. They have a "back entrance" that connects directly with Sherberth road, north of 192.

Agreed that Silver Lake is closer and probably more convenient. Never stayed there but have stayed at Cypress 3 times and were always happy. I would say Cypress Palms is about 15-20 min's from Epcot, DHS, AK. About 20 - 25 to MK. The only notable difference I know of is that all Cypress Palms buildings have elevators. I believe only one of the Silver Lake buildings has an elevator. Not sure if that's a concern or not but wanted to mention. If not mistaken, I believe all the buildings at CP have now been refurbed within the last 2 or 3 years. Not sure about SL.

Have stayed at both. Both were nice. The Wyndham was recently refurb and is clean and neat. they have 2 pools and on a nice lanscaped ground. The club house has a Keurig coffee maker for guests and popcorn. Silver lake sleeps 8 are the older buildings and I would try to say away from the building that is out by Sherbeth road..it is noisey. They do have a nice pool and a snack bar/ticki bar out by the pool. both are nice, but if I had to choose, I would take Silver Lake

We stayed at Cypress Palms for our last vacation and we loved it. We asked for a refurbished room and did receive it. I must say, I almost liked it better than Bonnet Creek. It has a smaller resort feel which I liked and the parking was so much easier. We didn't have 1 complaint.

Thanks so much for the reviews. Seems like either one is a good choice. Will definitely ask for a refurbished room if possible. :thumbsup2

I've stayed at both. I was told by the Wyndham supervisor while at another resort that the rehab of Cypress Palms is now complete.

Silver Lake has also been upgrading rooms and is also almost finished.

One thing to consider, some of Silver Lake's 2 bedroom units have two king beds. Make sure to call and ask for the bed configuration that works best for you. They also have rooms with two beds in the second bedroom.

The one thing I don't like about Cypress Palms is that there is no security. Silver Lake is gated. I've heard of hub caps getting stolen off the older cars in the lot at Cypress Palms.

I pick Silver Lake first because of their location. Some 2 bedroom units in the older buildings are much bigger than the fancier ones in the newer building.

I think you would get the most space if you ask for a 2 bedroom lock off at Cypress Palms. You would get one complete one bedroom unit with a pull out sofa, plus a small attached unit with another pull out sofa and its own small kitchen (with another bedroom as well). Cypress Palm's dedicated 2 bedroom units are smaller than their lock offs, with one pull out sofa. It would be similar to Silver Lake's typical 2 bedroom unit.

Silver Lake's 2 bedroom lockoffs are also smaller since the lockoff unit in the towers is really just a large hotel like bedroom.

At Silver Lake, some buildings have rooms that are 3 story walk ups (a problem for some). At Cypress Palms, they don't have many elevators and some can be a long distance away from some rooms.

If you do choose Silver Lake, avoid building 4 since it backs up to Sherbeth Rd. Try to check in early so you can ask for another room if the first one isn't ideal.

Thanks so much for all of the details. This really does help. :thumbsup2

Leaving in 22 days to go back to Cypress Palms- love love love it there! This is our 4 stay. Never had any problems with safety or feeling unsafe, grounds are clean.

If memory serves, if the listing for the 2 BR at Silver Lake says it sleeps 8 w/ privacy for 6, that means there's a king in the master, 2 queens in the 2nd and a sleeper sofa in the LR. That's the kind of 2 BR I stayed in back in 2004.

I believe I was in bldg 600, 3rd floor, no elevator. The only time that was really a problem was bringing the luggage in and out. Just took us longer. I couldn;t do it now, though, because of my knees.

I enjoyed Silver Lake. Not too big, not too small. Nice pool, and convenient to the parks. From the pool area, you could even see the top of the Tree of Life at AK.

We stayed at Cypress Palms last month and loved it. We have previously stayed at Orange Lake which is HUGE. I liked that this resort is smaller. The pool is a minute walk from the room. The clubhouse had pool toys/floaties to borrow for the kids. Two bedroom was a great size. We did not have an renovated room so it was a little outdated.

We originally wanted Silver Lake for the location but had no problems with Cypress Palms :)

We are in a 2 bedroom that sleeps 8 here now and your memory is correct. We are in the 300 building though and it is so big.

The master bedroom and bathroom are quite nice with both a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower (be careful staying here though as the water gets quite hot like scalding hot). It is huge.

We got Silver Lakes through Armed Forces Vacation club and plan to come back whenever it is available.

The one difference between the 300 building and the 6 hundred building though is that the 300 building has balconies and patios and the 600 hundred does not. The balcony is enclosed with screening so no real worry of mosquitoes plus it has a ceiling fan for those hot days.

This is nice to hear. We were considering Silver Lake through an offer we found on the Endless Vacations By Wyndham website. I like how the resort is literally next door to the Animal Kingdom and has a lot of nice reviews. If we were staying offsite we would definitely choose Silver Lake.
