Last week we hit the bakery at the BW and started walking over to EPCOT.

This couple was right in front of us & the man's jacket caught our attention.
We walked up very close as did lots of families & kids to take a closer look.

The couple both had cigarettes and were happily walking to EPCOT with their 'smokes'.

To me it was annoying, gross and of course broke the rules.
The kicker was she put the cigarette out on the pavement with her foot and walked along.

I heard the family walking next to us looking for a Cast Member to report them but we decided not to say anything. By the time we arrived at the gate they both had finished their cigarettes.

WWYD if anything?

Are you sure it was against the rules? They were on the path between the hotel and the park. I would be surprised if that was prohibited--since it wasn't in the park or the hotel, I think it would be out in "open air" and therefore OK.

As for her littering, that's nasty. If I were feeling particularly snarky I might have said "Excuse me, I think you dropped something", but I probably would have just given them a dirty look and gone on my way.

I am confuesd. What is the issue? The smoking? I dislike smoke and have issues with those who smoke in the park outside of the designated areas but from your description this was NOT in the park, but rather on the path to the park. To the best of my knowledge it is not against the rules to smoke there.

Or was there something obscene on the jacket that I cannot make out in the photo? It jsut looks like it has a lot of Disney patches on it to me.

Otherwise, I really do not see that the man did anything wrong by wearing his jacket and smoking in an area that allows it. Your OP almost makes it sound like you think he should not have been smoking because you found his jacket interesting--but there is just no logic in that at all.

The woman was wrong to leave her butt on the ground. Lots of people who otherwise do not litter do that and I will never understand why. When they are still burning I will stomp them out so no more smoke goes into the air. If I have a napkin or tissues available, to pick it up without touching it directly, I will do so and throw it away--otherwise I do leave it and hope it gets cleaned up soon.

Unless there ARE more details that I am missing, I would have hung back and put some distance between my group and him so as not to have to breath the smoke. That's all.

I would shut my mouth. . .because last time I checked smoking was still legal in the states. . . as is dressing tacky. ;)

Maybe it's just me, but really.....really.:confused3 You put their pictures on a WDW message board...wth... I hope they are not Dis board members.

Add me to the :confused3 . Are they not allowed to smoke because of their jackets, or were they smoking something of the wacky tobacky variety? It appears to be quite an open area outside a park.

I agree!!! I am a smoker and when in public I will only smoke in smoking areas and if not I will stand in a remote place where nobody else is. If there are no ash trays I butt it out and then throw it in the garbage not on the ground especially WDW where they work so hard keeping it spotless. I maust say, cool jacket, my DW purchaced on at Mouse gears in 2001 and has put over 100 patches on it, someone even offered her $500.00 for it at a local mall...her reaction...it's priceless.

Actually, that area would still be considered part of a Disney Resort, I think. And smoking is banned in the resorts except in designated areas.

Those are Disney's rules.

There are some people who do come to Disney thinking they won't have to worry about nicotine or smoke because Disney has those rules, so they'd be caught off guard.

Yes, it's a free country, but that's up until your actions cause harm to someone else, and in this case, it would. Ignoring that, it's an activity Disney has clearly defined as one that should take place in certain zones only.

I would not do anything. I would just have gone on my merry way since I would have assumed that they could smoke outside the park.

Also, I think the op just mentioned the jacket because it was interesting and that is what caught their attention. then they happened to notice they were smoking.

Add me to the :confused3 column! You really got upset enough to take pictures and then post them on the message board?? Color me confused but I really can't get that worked up over anything while I'm on vacation. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I would be HIGHLY annoyed. Unfortunately most smokers are not as courteous as the one a few posts above me. The majority of smokers just don't seem to care about anyone around them. Smoking is disgusting and I don't like to be anywhere around it. It kills my allergies AND my asthma. If people want to smoke, fine...just don't subject me to it!

That said, I still would do nothing at all and just chalk it up to more rude people who only care about themselves and not the rules or other people, as that pathway is still resort property and most likely not a smoking area.

IMHO, those people we're minding their own business. Maybe they were breaking a rule but it's WDW's rule so it's between them and Disney. I don't see how it would concern me unless they were indoors or in an enclosed space where I could get a lung full of smoke.:confused3

I still say I wouldn't have done anything, but if you are walking behind them you would still get a lung full of smoke. And if you pass them, then the next people behind them get a lung full of smoke, and so on and so on. If they're going to break the rules, they could at least show some courtesy and pull over to the side and stop out of the way and smoke instead of smoking and walking, which subjects anyone behind them to breathe it in.

I agree!

I cannot stand the smell of smoking, but how annoying could it have been in the open air like that?
What does the jacket have to do with it? Did families really go up behind him to stare at the jacket?

:scared1:Wow! (and not at the cigarette people either)

If you wouldn't have walked up really close behind them, you wouldn't have had to worry about their smoke.

I would be nnoyed. I would probably comment to my family about stamping the butt on the ground and might pick it up but that would be it. I don't like smoking but I really hate it when folks toss their butts around for someone else to pick up.

A few years ago we were on ME excited to get to our resort. A couple with a baby and a little girl about 4 YO came on the bus and the man was carrying a cup. I don't know what was worse He sat teh little girl on the seat near me, which was several rows behind where he and his wife sat. I offered to move so he could sit with this little girl, who was clinging to a little toy which she said helped her not to cry. He declined. Spitting in the cup :scared: The man behind him offered and again he declined, spitting in that cup! It was very hard not saying anyathing about that poor baby. Her nasty adults were too busy with teh new baby to bother with her and she was terrified. He was so darn gross....chewing and spitting.

I spent the ride talking about the movie and her favorite Disney characters but I spent that week looking for her. :sad2:

Maria- some people are just plain nasty and wearing Disney sweat****s will not make them any nicer or more thoughtful

I can't imagine going to WDW and letting this stuff even register with me. Life is too short, and my WDW time even shorter.

I'm confused.

I think the only reason his jacket was mentioned is because that's what caught your eye? And after that, you noticed they were smoking?

What would I do? Nothing. Maybe think, "I wish they wouldn't throw their butts on the ground." I also know, though, that when I was growing up, that's just what people did and no one thought a thing of it. They look older than me, so maybe they just haven't caught on that it's not done anymore?

But, really, if they're the only people you catch smoking and throwing a butt down on this trip, consider yourself lucky.

If I saw abuse, theft, or loud, obnoxious public drunkiness (or if someone was ill, etc) I'd find a CM, but for someone smoking? No.

I wouldn't have spent the effort to take their pictures.

agnes!
