Am I understanding correctly? You thought the jacket was interesting so you got closer to get a better look and when you did, you realized they were smoking and then the woman put out her butt on the ground?

If that's the scenario, I wouldn't do anything. Nothing there would have registered on my radar. I might have taken a picture of his jacket because it is interesting, at least to us Disney freaks, but otherwise nothing special was happening. Some people enjoy smoking. At least they were smoking in an open area where the air helped to dissipate the smoke rather quickly. This from someone who has never, ever smoked.

Should the woman have littered? No. Calling a CM over this just seems like an over-the-top reaction. What exactly, do you think the CM was going to do? Since WDW has instituted their non-confrontation of guests policy, I think the best you could hope for was someone to sweep up her butt.

I would have done nothing, I wouldn't even have considered doing anything.

More importantly, I wouldn't have even considered taking their picture and posting about this "incident" on this or any other board. The thought of that wouldn't even have crossed my radar.

It isn't illegal for them to smoke on the boardwalk walking path because they are not in one of the resorts or in the parks. I don't think they should have put the cigarette butts on the ground though. They could've at least disposed of them properly. Our DVC resort is the Beach Club so we spend quite a bit of time walking the boardwalk, and I have seen many people smoking while walking.

I wouldn't have spent the effort to take their pictures.

agnes!

Let me clarify....the jacket is what catch our attention. That's also what catch the attention of so many others including kids. Hence, the photos.

The amazement was when we decided to speed up & pass. Even with all the attention they just kept on smoking. They also had started smoking at the BW so it wasn't just the pathway to EPCOT.
The kicker was throwing it on the ground, putting it out with her shoe & just leaving it there.
Pigs!

Nan, just gross but sadly believable~

Add me to this group. PLEASE!

And me.

It does annoy me when people throw cigarettes on the ground, but I still wouldn't post their picture on a message board in order to embarrass or shame them into feeling bad about it.

Plus, this is just a guess but anyone excited enough about Disney to wear that jacket might be a member here. :rotfl:

I don't find his jacket THAT interesting that he would attract onlookers and paparazzi.

I was thinking that too. Yes, it might cause a second glance--but I have seen plenty of similar stuff at WDW--and I have never seen a bunch of people and kids gawking at people wearing said stuff. Strange things must be in the air at WDW right now:rotfl:

I'm confused too. You are the one who got close to him and it was only then you realized he was smoking. I can't imagine anyone would take time out of their vacation to find a cast member to tattle on someone minding his own business, even if he were "breaking a rule". If it upset you that much, confront him youself. I don't think you'd get very far except having a confrontation in front of your kids.

Next time I would stay a respectable distance from other people and then they won't annoy you.

With all WHAT attention? I highly doubt, with all the crazy things people do and wear at Disney, that that couple was attracting so much attention. The jacket you posted isn't that special. And so what if they kept smoking? I hate smoke and think smoking is foul, nor do I think there is an excuse for littering. But I don't expect people to stop smoking in a place where it's prohibited. The only thing wrong here is dropping the cigarette on the ground (and you getting close enough to take pictures and post them on a message board).

Other than think "Boy that lady was a slob to throw her cigarette butt on the ground", I wouldn't have done a thing. I am not a Disney employee, so I don't feel that it is my job to police the place while I am there.

People smoking outdoors while walking along don't seem to be a health hazard to me...those of you that are so sensitive to smoke that being within 100 feet of it while outside will set off a catastrophic health event just need to pay attention to what's going on around you I guess.

Walked faster to get past so the smoke wouldn't bother me! :goodvibes

I don't like the smell of smoke but I just try and stay away from it if I can. :thumbsup2

I would be HIGHLY annoyed. Unfortunately most smokers are not as courteous as the one a few posts above me. The majority of smokers just don't seem to care about anyone around them. Smoking is disgusting and I don't like to be anywhere around it. It kills my allergies AND my asthma. If people want to smoke, fine...just don't subject me to it!

That said, I still would do nothing at all and just chalk it up to more rude people who only care about themselves and not the rules or other people, as that pathway is still resort property and most likely not a smoking area.

Wow, you know the majority of smokers? Your Christmas list must be really long!
The smokers that I know are very careful not to offend those around them and go out of their way to find designated smoking areas both at WDW and in the real world.

Throwing the cigarette on the ground was wrong. As for the rest, just enjoy being at WDW and don't worry about what others are doing.
It always amazes me to come to the DIS and read how so many here are concerned about what other guests are doing. When we're at WDW, I'm having too good a time to notice most things. If I do see something, I certainly won't run to the DIS. It registers for a second and I move on with having fun.

If the LITTERING bothered you so much, why didn't you take the effort and energy you put into snapping photos into actually doing something about it, like grabbing a Kleenex and picking it up yourself and disposing of it? :confused3

As much as I hate the smell of it and highly allergic I probably wouldn't do anything. Well other than cough loudly. Not sure if they were breaking the law or not. But they seem like they are big Disney Fans so they can't be that bad, right??

They were breaking a WDW rule not the law so I would have done nothing.

Anyone who goes running to CMs when they see someone breaking the rules is just a tattle teller and people should have outgrown that phase by elementary school IMO.

I will never understand why people let stuff like this bother them so much when they are on vacation. At the most it warrants an  I would have forgotten it within minutes of being in the park.

I probably would have commented to my group about the rude people taking pictures of the couple.

As for the smoking, it's a large area, there are many trash cans with ashtrays on them in that area, I wouldn't think it's a big deal.
