So the rescued kids make up for the lost ones? That doesn't make sense to me. The rescued ones are just them doing their jobs. And the feelings I have are based on more than that one story. There has been findings of corruption, failure to follow-up resulting in deaths, etc. And this is just what makes it into the news. For all the good stories that don't get media play, there are as many bad ones that don't either. Sorry, but this is one system that I have issues with. I am sure there are good workers out there, but there seems to be more bad than good. I don't think they start out that way, but somehow many end up that way. It's really sad.

Anyway, sorry to get this off topic.

"Immediate danger concerns" are a seperate issue. I can see how kids might be immediately removed while investigation occurs in that case. Sad as that is for those who are unjustly accused, it shouldn't prevent people from reporting suspected neglect.

I feel like I can say with confidence that the government is not going to remove a child without investigation because a neighbor is concerned about possible neglect and/or poor parenting practices.

they won't laugh-but they will be honest on what is they can legaly investigate. despite personal 'common sense' opinions many issues most people would automaticaly assume is a cps issue unless an agency is legaly allowed to deem it investigation worthy it cannot be pursued (and surprisingly-drug sales, drug/alcohol/sex addiction, prostitution in the home so long as they are not impacting on the child being provided with basic needs or 'exposing' the child to these behaviours are in some states not a basis for cps active intervention-saw many a highly functioning drug addict show that they provided outstanding care to their child, many an in-home prostitute/drug dealer demonstrate that their activities occured behind closed doors without the child witnessing-all upheld by the laws of individual states ).

People judging or lying can cause serious ramifications for families. I would not call unless there were some indication aside form a crying baby.

I do not believe that this child would be whisked away, just stated it has happenned.

I'm going against the group here too. I think that you may indeed have a valid concern for the baby. I guess that I would recommend that you try the toys/books idea first and then bring up the crying in an off-hand manner. "My niece was so colicy as a baby! It drove my sister crazy. I bet it's hard for you too every morning." If your gut still tells you that there is something wrong, I think you should go ahead and make the call.
