we have gone in mid/late august several times and we have gone mid december twice.

we do like the extra day in august but while she can handle it my sister really doesn't like the extreme heat.

we love the christmas season at WDW but it can be chilly and we really wish we could have an extra day in december but we can't because my sister is a teacher and she'd already be taking one day off work.

so which would you personally choose and which do you think we should choose? (if we go at all that is)

For us, it would be December all the way.

The crowds will start building by Saturday, December 19, BUT we find them much more bearable when we're not melting down into a pool of sweat. August is just plain too hot and humid for us.

If your sister doesn't like the heat, then go for December. I'd give up one extra day for cooler weather.

I would go for December, because nicer temperatures and Christmas decorations and the MVMCP. August might have slightly lower crowds, but much more hot and humid, not to mention good chance for Tstorms every day.

I'm a rope drop/commando type person, so if I was going those dates in December, I personally would replace the 2-day park hopper with a regular 3-day ticket (costs $30 more?), do MK and MVMCP Friday, Epcot Saturday, HS Sunday morning before heading to airport. In my experience HS EMH on Saturdays can be a zoo, HS actually seemed busier at 8am EMH than at 9am on a regular day.

December. I like the idea Lucius Best to get a 3 day regular ticket instead of a 2 day park hoppper. Also, one thing to consider is if you would like to get there a day or two earlier than your sister. (I'm not sure how that would work with the dining plan.) Since she can't go for very long, you could still enjoy for a longer period of time and you could already be checked into the room so she can get right to touring whenever she arrives.
...

...wait...are they requiring a park hopper to get the free dining?

thanks for the input.
we rather not go to a park on departure day.
yes you have to get either a park hopper or water park fun and more add on in order to get free dining.
i just went solo last month and while i had fun i'd rather just have both of us go during the same time frame. (easier on me since i'm visually impaired and need assistance at the airport and for some dimly lit lines)
also we'll do direct to room check in so we won't have to stop by the front desk at all.
