WWYD - VGC Rental Decisions

We currently have a studio booked in xxxxxx at the VGC. We originally planned to travel there (booked a long time ago) but since Covid and the Disneyland parks not being open for months, we figured it would never happen. Now we are building a house that will be ready around the same time so we cannot travel at that time.

I could rent out the reservation but I'm nervous. What if they close things down again? Will anyone even want to rent it if the parks aren't open? I'm torn between putting it up for rent or just moving it to later next year and hoping the parks will be open and we can travel. We could certainly use the money from the rental but with all the threads I've read lately about rental issues, I'm a little nervous.

What would you do?

You could both offer it as a confirmed reservation but also just as points to be used elsewhere inside of 7 months. By renting just the points you open up WDW options which may bring more demand than VGC right now.

It depends on what use year the points are and what the deadline is to bank them.

but right now, there is a glut of points available.

If your points are bankable, or can be used with 7+ month VGC priority, I might suggest offering as VGC points for rent/transfer first and see what you can get. Without knowing what the status is of DL, people may still be hesitant to commit to VGC without an open park nearby. (We are contemplating the same thing - putting off a VGC stay that has already been rescheduled once)
 

I deleted some details so not to appear as a for rent. But, it is really up to you.

Anything will rent for a price, even with the parks closed. Just have to decide if it is worth it,

If the resort closed again, then most brokers are now requiring owners to return funds,

If you did on your own, you’d have to decided that with your renter.

I would absolutely move it to later next year & hope for the best! 🎉 Especially after moving, you’re going to be ready for a vacation! 🍾🥂
 
Given the uncertainty of the times and the liability that could go with it, I would bank the points and plan for next year. If possible.
 
Thank you all for your help in making my decision. We moved the reservation out till October. Praying for the ability to travel later next year! 🙏
 
If your points are current. I would def recommend selling your points via transfer, surely there will be an owner willing to pay $16-18 for VGC points that they will use in 2021 or 2022. If your points are banked already, cancel and rent them to a WDW goer. I’ve seen Q1 and Q2 2021 for around $15 with the 2nd half of the year back to $16-18.
