Dear Santa brought my 8 yr old boy and 15 yr old girl a trip to Universal. We are scheduled to go on New Years Day for 4 night trip. Santa also brought an electric scooter and welll.... now a broken clavicle. Do we go ahead and go or reschedule for April during Spring Break? My son enjoys rides but not huge roller coasters. We typically go to Disney and this is our first universal trip. I would know what he could and couldnt do at Disney and the decis would be easier; however, i am clueless when it comes to Universal.

I would postpone trip too. I remember having a broken clavicle as a kid, doing stupid stunts on ice rink with a friend lol. Not fun.

I would postpone too. There isn’t a ton he can do at Universal that doesn’t have a harness going over the shoulders or isn’t jerking him around. He’ll probably still be pretty uncomfortable just sitting around in a week. Poor thing

How does he feel about it, I would want to postpone the trip. Spring break is crazy....
Take him out of school for a few days and go in 6 weeks. Your pocketbook will thank you.

Our hotel was 100 more a night because it's in spring break. And there were so many people we couldn't sit down anywhere.

Does he have a cast or other visible medical gear? I ask, because Universal is more strict than Disney sometimes. I haven’t specifically heard of anyone not being allowed to ride with a cast, but I have heard Craig from the podcast saying they were very conscientious about it when he worked there. I also know that they are strict about prosthetics or missing limbs, which is different from a cast.

So sorry to here about ur kiddo’s injury. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
I’d postpone until he is well enough to enjoy the entire experience. Not worth risking further injury and who ll know how he ll feel.

So sorry to hear that! My DD broke her wrist this fall before our trip but she was out of the cast and in a splint by the time we went. I wouldn't automatically postpone. How is he feeling? Is he in pain? Does he have a cast? Hulk is the only ride that won't allow anyone with a cast or splint on the ride. For the other rides it depends on whether or not it interferes with the harness or ride vehicle. We had no problems with the wrist splint but if he has large gear that might prevent him from riding. Does he have restrictions on swimming (or getting wet on a water ride) and if so how would he feel about that? If any of those things are likely to be issues, I'd postpone. If not and he's feeling up to it (and doc agrees) I think there is a lot he'd be able to enjoy.

FWIW, DD's doc is being super cautious with her healing and still has her on restrictions for gym and recess but was fine with her going on any ride as long as she was able to wear her splint. He's a theme park fan so also very familiar with rollercoasters.

Broken collarbone won't likely have a cast. BUT anything with a harness is going to be excruciating. And being jerked around is going to be painful.

And for the rides that require at least one arm to hold on with, those will likely be painful as well to hold on.

That has links to PDFs for the parks.

I do have a friend whose then 7ish year old had a scooter accident and snapped his clavicle, and he was on his way to healing inside of days. But that particular kid heals ridiculously quickly; I call him superman. He and my son got into a scuffle (the boy and his brother treat my only-child son like their brother, and he got caught in one of their brotherly physical fights), and my son is unused to such things, and scratched the boy's face with his gross young-boy fingernails. And ONE day later the scratches were gone. From fingernails! So he's likely not the norm for healing from a clavicle fracture. :)

I haven’t specifically heard of anyone not being allowed to ride with a cast

My son. You can't go on Hulk *at all* with a cast.
