WWYD regarding tickets?

I was able to get a great deal on a room and tickets at the Polynesian for August. The room costs and the ticket costs are both discounted through the travel agency I went through, which is great! However, I can only get 8 days worth of tickets with this deal; that's their cut-off. So since we're staying more than 8 days, I'm left wondering if I should just book the room with them and snag the tickets either at UT or directly through Disney (only a $60 difference between Dis & UT) but a difference of about $380 between the 8 day tickets through the TA vs UT! So, would you snag tickets elsewhere, even though it's a big price difference, or would you stick with the deeply discounted 8-day PH/WP tickets and just spend a day or 2 at a WP/the hotel? If we have PH/WP tickets, and we only go to a water park one day, that still leaves a day of the PH untouched, right? I know that it all comes down to what will work for us personally, but I'm interested in hearing input/advice since I'm having trouble deciding. Thanks!

The 8-day PH/WP tickets give you 8 park days and 8 "entitlements" to the other activities. Your WP/More tickets are completely separate from park tickets. While you can only use one park ticket per day, you can use multiple entitlements in one day - like WP and mini-golf.

We usually go for 9-10 days, but not every day is a park day. We take at least one day for a water park, but because we go in November, only 1 WP is open. You will be able to experience BOTH, if you choose to.

You didn't say how long your trip is, so that might change my perspective. But if it were me and I was staying 10 days or less, I would stick with what you have. Anything more than 10 days and you should consider an AP...

Ah, sorry! Right now we are booked for 8 nights, but I just asked her to see if the next day is available too - so right now we're at 8 nights (9 days kinda) but if we can add a night, we'll be at 9 nights (10 days kinda).

Thanks! 8 nights currently booked, hoping to add a 9th. So since we booked 8 nights, that's 9 days in my eyes which makes me think we should have 9 days worth of hoppers. If we are able to add a day, I'd be hoping for 10 days worth of hoppers. But you have a good point about taking a couple water park days! In the past, we've done a WP during the day, gone back to hotel for showers, then gone to a park at night. So if we stick with the 8, maybe it'll force us to rest a bit, which might not be a bad thing, lol! I guess just since we only go once every couple of years, I like the idea of being able to pop into a park each day if we wanted to, just nice to have that option. But it may be unnecessary. Thanks for your help! :)

Disney would let me add a day on once we arrived?
Yes, within 14 days of the tickets first use you can add days (up to 10 park days max). So in your case you could add one or two days once there. It should be a minimal amount difference and you will keep your discount. You can upgrade your tickets at guest services. For more info you should probably read the all about ticket sticky thread. https://www.disboards.com/threads/all-about-tickets-at-wdw.3570721/#post-56958170

I think you will be just fine with 8 days out of a possible 10 day trip. There is plenty to do outside of the main parks I. E. Your resort, water parks, Disney springs etc. I usually go for 10 days and have never gone to the parks every day. You also have partial days for arrival and departure. Stick with the tickets you have as I think it would be a waste of the $$ for more.

You need to ask your TA this. I used a TA for an amazing deal, but part of the deal with the tickets was that they could not be upgraded or modified. I was fully aware of this policy, and I was able to modify them ahead of time. But once I was there, that was it - no adding days, no upgrading to AP.

Ahhh, I see, so that explains why they won't let me add beyond the 8 days. What's the deal with convention tickets? They work just the same on my end, right? I have only ever booked my Disney trips myself through Disney direct, but I couldn't pass up the deal with the TA you speak off. But I'm nervous about it!

I'm not sure how it all works. But my guess is that convention tickets are so cheap because of these restrictions. And remember that Disney sells their tickets to wholesalers like UT and ParkSavers and such, so they probably do the same for large "conventions" but with these limitations.

But beyond the inability to be upgraded, they work just like any other ticket. Nothing to fear! Enjoy the discount and enjoy your trip!

Thank you!! :)

Take a day off from park touring for swimming and doing laundry. Plan a nice big meal that night, and I bet you won't even miss the parks that day.

Have seen conflicting info about convention tix (I currently have the after 2pm kind). This thread says they cannot be upgraded but I've seen elsewhere that we might be able to get a credit of the price we paid towards an AP. Anyone tried that or is that only for the full day tix?

My agent said the convention tickets were upgradeable to AP once on site. Haven’t tried it so don’t know if true but that is what I was told.

Per post #4 of this thread, they're not able to be upgraded (and I would trust Robo to have the correct information):
