WWYD? offered free upgrade

I am super excited, but I dont even know where to begin to start getting all the little things we need before we go (like ponchos, blister stuff for feet). I did get out our luggage and layed it in our extra bedroom ready to start packing

I'd ask if it's possible to stay at one of the moderates or at the BC/YC if you feel like you would need to rent a car at a DVC resort. It's your personal feeling about your vacation and if staying there changes how comfortable you are about transportation then it seems like they might let you have another option for a regular resort instead of the DVC. Yes it's great to have an upgrade to nicer digs, but that's not the most important point to everyone. I personally love the DVC, but it's your vacation!

Yes, ask about another resort, if that would be better for you...it wouldn't hurt. 3 or 4 years ago, we were scheduled at POFQ, they called and said they were renovating could they move us to POR or some other mod..can't remember..first I said, no..we like POFQ, then the gutsy side of me took over, "what about WL?"...checking...sure, we can offer that to you for $105/night (I think our POFQ was $99)...I jumped on that...DH is a GS..(Grumpy Spouse-doesn't like WDW) but he really like WL, and actually told me so..you don't know how hard that was for him.

I would take any upgrade from a Value to a Deluxe, but for me it would be because Deluxe will probably never fit into our budget.

is there a list, or thread or something that has a huge list of common things you should pack and bring with you somewhere?

I get ponchos at Target, in the camping department they are about $0.89 each for "emergency ponchos" that are very lightweight and crammed into a tiny square so they are very easy to carry around. Sometimes they have slightly heavier ones in the One Spot at Target for $1. Sometimes they have 2/$1 at the dollar store, but that's pretty iffy. For the blister stuff, go to Dick's Sporting Goods (or I'm sure other sporting goods stores have it too) and get Body Glide. It's about $10 and looks like a stick of deodorant, it hangs on the wall in a carded package. I just sent my parents to get some because mine is almost gone, I've used it for 2 WDW trips and countless local trips to the amusement park, zoo, farm, etc. My parents called me in a panic, apparently now they make four kinds of Body Glide! Get the one that says it's for "blisters and chafing." I'm telling you, this stuff works like a miracle! Well worth the ten bucks.

If you need to know anything else, just ask. I always try to pack light but still bring everything I need, and after a bunch of WDW trips I'm pretty good at figuring out what we don't end up using.

16 days to go, I can't wait!! These are the longest days EVER!

Several months ago when we accepted the upgrade we asked if we could have WLV or BWV instead of OKW(we were worried about transportation) and they said we could but we would have to pay the price differerence. We were staying for 13 nights and it would of cost us almost a grand more(1000$) for a 1 bedroom at BWV or WLV.We would have to pay rack rate to except the free dinning because that is what the promotion was at the time we booked.Does that make sence? If your only staying for a couple of nites than it may be worth the extra money. We just decided that it cost 9$ for a cab from OKW to MK so if their is a long wait for the bus or were running late we will just get a cab. Hope some of this info helps.
I will also call and ask what the worst they could say!

16 more days. (It seems like forever.....:rolleyes1 )
I can't stop reading the DIZ, I keep thinking I'm going to forget something or worse, everything I researched. I went and got my LGMHPC's (did I do that right?) at home depot on Monday. I will be carrying mine and I'm putting some in my windows at SSR. Hope I spot some of you or you spot me.

what does the body glide feel like when you apply it?Does it make your feet wet or slippery?I also wonder How you get your feet not to sweat in your sandels if you don't wear socks(like crocs or keens)

Any one eles worried about the heat? It's has been over 100 here in the midwest and so humid I can barly stand to go outside.:scared1: i fear I'm going to be in trouble. My kids go back to school on monday and all they have in there classroom is a small fan.I'm worried about them.I can't imagin how hot it will be. It seems to me though that heat doesn't bother the kids as much as adults.
Aren't I a chatty catty today.I'm just super excited for my trip!

Only 11 days until we check in to SSR. We will be at Pop for the night in 10 days!!! We are very excited.

I haven't tried the Body Glide (I bought some though), but I have been using Monistat anti-chafing powder gel every day and I love it! I put it on the tops of my feet, it's too slippery on the bottoms. I also use it on my thighs (sorry for TMI) when I wear dresses and it makes a huge difference in comfort/sweating.

It's been hot here too, we had some relief last night but now the humidity is going back up. I've been watching weather.com and there's not much difference between us and Florida so I'm prepared to just go to the same climate I've already been dealing with. The big plus is that I won't be worrying about the a/c bills on vacation (I am such a cheap skate!).

We will get to SSR on Monday Aug. 27 about 1 pm if everything goes as scheduled, I am so excited!! We leave Sat. morning, so shorter trip for us than many of you. I hope everyone has a great time and we can all talk about it on this thread when we get home.

Here I am ... checking in... we officially now have as many days to wait as we will actually be there!! I am besides myself right now... i am always excited about the Disney trips, but this one has gotta be the most exciting one yet!! whoo hoo!! my packing pile has started!!!:woohoo:

I went and got my LGMHPC's (did I do that right?) at home depot on Monday. I will be carrying mine and I'm putting some in my windows at SSR. Hope I spot some of you or you spot me.

I'll be going to Home Depot after work today to pick up my LGMHPC's - I think I'll grab some other colors too and make a countdown chart for the kids. They can pull one off every day. They also make excellent bookmarks and are great for scrapbooking! I wasn't sure if people put them in windows at SSR - I know I've put them in our windows at the values and at POFQ when I went with a group of DISers I made them for everyone's doors. I'll be busy putting my name on them this weekend, hey I need something to do to keep me busy until 8/31! I'll have to keep my eyes on the windows at SSR, maybe we'll see each other!

M2DD's: The Body Glide feels like nothing when you put it on. It turns just a little bit powdery like a stick deodorant. It has no scent and is not slippery or wet. If I feel like I'm getting a blister or a sore spot from my Crocs, I just rub it on and it immediately feels better! I wear Crocs without socks at WDW and don't get too sweaty. I did find that with my black Crocs I got sweaty, but it's not an issue with my red or khaki ones. The Body Glide also seems to help keep from getting sweaty too. It truly is amazing stuff! What part of the Midwest are you in? I'm just outside of Kansas City and yesterday it was 107 on my mom's back patio. :scared: I'm thinking FL will feel downright refreshing after the heatwave we've been having! Ok not really, but it has been a little cooler in FL than here. Of course it's more humid in FL, but who cares? We'll be in Disney World!!

LanaJae: I picked up a tube of the Monistat anti-chafing stuff at WalMart, it was on clearance! :woohoo: I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it might be good for my thighs. Last year I got my jean shorts soaked on Splash Mountain on our 1st of 10 days, and I had horrible chafing for the rest of the trip. I'm not even all that big, but I had to keep going to 1st aid to stock up on huge bandaids - my whole thighs were open sores! Oops, sorry that was probably waaaaay too much TMI wasn't it? The chafing nearly ruined my trip. I'm going to try the Monistat and see which one I like better. I do like that the Monistat is in a tiny tube, smaller to carry around and the less junk in my bag, the better! I didn't know it was slippery though, I'll have to remember that and not smear it all over my feet.

Oops double post. This darn work computer - sometimes when I answer the phone, the cord hits the keyboard and makes it do wacky things!

I'm a chatty cathy today too (haven't heard that one in ages!) and beware... it'll only get worse between now and 2 Fridays from now! I talk a lot when I'm excited, and I just LOVE having Disney people to talk with because everyone in my real life is sick to death of hearing about it!!

Me again... I was just thinking that after some of us "upgraders" get back, we should start a thread to post about our trips. Sort of mini-trip reports, a place to share our experiences while we were there, just like now we're sharing our thoughts and anticipation about going. I just don't think other people understand the extra level of excitement about this fantastic upgrade, it really adds a whole other dimension of magic to this trip!!

I wonder how many of us will come back as DVC owners? ;)

I got one tube at Walmart on clearance too, was an exciting purchase lol. I have several tubes now, it's the same ingredients as very expensive makeup primers too, so I'm using it for that also.

I hear you on the wet jeans, it only has to happen once to be remembered for all time. Sorry you went through that.

It really is only slippery on the bottoms of feet with Crocs on (no socks) - not anywhere else. I think probably both products are good to have along.

MIL just called they need to know whats in the studio at SSR?

toaster?

I think so, but am not sure - go look at the DVC section and I think someone has everything listed there. If you post, don't talk about the upgrade if you want to stay happy until you leave (just in case - there were some who were PO'd about it).
