WWYD? offered free upgrade

That is wonderful! I think that Disney is just trying to let people see the DVC units (I expect they'll be selling some DVC out of this!) I don't think it has anything to do with values being booked.

I would actually have a hard time deciding between a studio and Pop, just because I really enjoy the Pop Century - the music, the food court, etc. But a 1 bedroom, I'd take. I could fill the fridge with food and wouldn't need to worry about a food court. :) (go over to Coronado Springs and fill the fridge for a few days on counter service). :)

When I used the upgrade to get a studio at SSR, I came on the DIS and saw that others got 1 bedroom villas. I called back and explained that I had upgraded today and asked if I could change it to a 1 bedroom. The CM was thrilled out of her mind when it worked! The difference is now $1700.00!

Woo Hoo! I've been a frequent reader of the disboards and already have my Aug Free dining package booked. Because my oldest DS starts high school this fall and needs to be back for Freshman orientation, we had to split our stay into 2 packages. One staying Aug 21-26 and the 2nd with Free dining staying Aug 26th - Aug 29th....

Today when I got home, I received the free upgrade offer !! Of course when I showed my husband, he said "how do you know this is really from Disney ??":confused3 ..So, of course I jumped on the boards to check things out and found out we got sprinkled with pixie dust just like some of youpixiedust: !!

I was on hold for awhile and was then able to upgrade my Aug 26 -29 POP reservation to a SSR 1 BD Villa!!!:cheer2:

Thanks for all your help Disboards! :cheer2:

Well, it just keeps getting better. After I used the email code to upgrade to a studio at SSR, I noticed that Dissers were saying they got a one bedroom. So I called back, and told them I'd like to switch it to a 1 bedroom. The CM was so sweet. She said she doubted it would work, but she'd try. When it worked, she went crazy! She said it was the happiest thing she'd ever been able to do at this job! So the three of us have a 1 bedroom at SSR for 5 nights with 6 day hoppers, water park fun and more, and free dining for $1443!

When I showed my DDs the pictures of SSR, I thought they would pass out! We haven't stayed deluxe since they were very young. They barely remember it.

Also, the CM said that they needed to free up rooms at the values for families on a budget." I thought, heck, that's me but I better keep my mouth shut! She said she has never seen an upgrade this huge for free.

God Bless Walt and his pixie dust from beyond!

I *really* hope it doesn't mean that Pop is overbooked from 8/26-9/1!!! That's when I'm going to be there, and I didn't get an upgrade offer..... I've never stayed at a value before (have stayed at Poly, WL, AKL Concierge, Dixie Landings) and thought I would do a cheap trip with free dining this time... Now I'm really worried that Pop will be at capacity and I'll really hate it. It's one thing for the parks to be super busy, but if the resort is fully booked, where will I go to get away from all the people????

Wow...we are going at the beginning of the free DDP & we are staying at a value too. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will get this e-mail too....

For those who got the free upgrade offer, how many times have you stayed at a Disney resort? I'm wondering if the free upgrades are being offered to those who visit WDW often, and would be prime candidates for DVC...

Also, out of all of your stays at a Disney resort, how many were at a value vs. a moderate vs. a deluxe?

Hmmm... it makes me wonder what Disney's marketing strategy is here.... Get the frequent visitors into a DVC resort and hope they will buy? Or get the frequent visitors who have mostly stayed at deluxe level resorts into DVC and hope they will buy? DVC is not cheap, so I'm wondering how they are "prequalifying" the guests that are being given the offers...

For those that received this e-mail, when did you book the original free dining offer? I am just wondering if they are sending them out on a day to day basis based on the first day of booking.

Staying at OKW on our own dime would have cost $4000 w/ dining! We paid $1300 and are now getting back $2.40 for some reason. It must be good! Anyone ever stayed there before and like it better than POP...this may be the dumbest question ever asked but I will take ownership!

Don't worry!! OKW is so much better than Pop! The rooms are huge, it's quiet, relaxing, has a neighborhood pool in each section, plus a large pool with a slide near the Hospitality House. We've had great luck with the bus system. We've also stayed at Pop, so we can compare, and there's really no comparison. You got a great deal. Have a wonderful time!

I am sincerely so happy for you, but for some reason that little green-eyed monster just popped out of me because I NEVER GET ANYTHING EXTRA FROM DISNEY, not even a towel animal!!! :confused3

Okay, okay, I'm calm again. Please return to your regularly scheduled programming.

And seriously, that is great news and I hope you have a wonderful time. :hippie:

That is a very interesting theory. In our case, we have been to WDW many times, but we (my parents, but is effectively ours now) own a timeshare so we usually stay offsite.

This year, we have been a little hog wild with Disney - we had a trip in January, this one in August, and dh and I are going back in September for our 10 year anniversary. January and August were value resorts, and September is AKL. So, it could be they realized we seem very into Disney this year.

I have another idea, I am wondering if the upgrade is being offered based on the day that people booked free dining. I wonder if the people who received this booked on the first day of the free dining promo offer. If so, I booked on the 3rd day so maybe there is hope in the future.

I booked this trip on 5/5 - I don't know when FD came out - I think that was well after it - I booked because my airfare dropped for my anniversary trip so I had a credit.

I got it too!!!pixiedust: I'm going Aug 31-Sep3, SSR 1BR! This is the biggest upgrade I've ever received! I  Disney!

Free upgrade email too!

I booked our ASMo 14 night package online on 5/5 just like the PP(davidsmommy). We were upgraded to OKW 1-bed today.

To answer the other question. This would make our 3rd trip to Disney (2005,2006 and now 2007) all at Value resorts.

Don't know if we were profiled for DVC but I'm  the thought of a king size bed, laundry in the room, water slide for kiddos, refrigerator, etc.. makes my heart do a flip. I'm so excited! :yay:

I was leery of the email also and HAD to come to the DIS to check it out before calling. Soooooooo glad we did.
