WWYD? Neighbor's DD broke her leg in MY backyard!

I'm still stuck on the fact that some schools don't allow crutches. When my DD had a hairline fracture on her leg in elementary school, that was the only good way she could get around - a wheelchair would have been much more of a hassle. I guess I don't understand why crutches would be worse than a wheelchair in getting around the school?....

agnes!

I've never heard of not being able to use crutches either. Of course, our schools also don't have wheelchairs. Actually, we don't really even have a school nurse. We have to woman who teaches Allied Health at the Vo-Tech, but you rarely see her, and she's for the entire county.

I would be in the group that says this will NOT automatically end up going to your homeowners insurance. You know how many times I've fallen in my own home and sustained and injury and nothing ever came of it???

Anyhow, a few years ago my son was riding his dirtbike w/ the neighbor kid between our yard and their yard. He wrecked it in their yard and broke his leg and tore his ACL. It was an accident. Anyhow, our health insurance company never even inquired anything about where it happened and paid for everything. Just earlier this year I fell at a venue down some bleacher steps. They organization was not at fault.....I'm just really clumsy. Went to the ER and had several follow visits and 3 different sets of xrays. Anyhow, my insurance company paid for all of that too.

To be able to go after the homeowners insurance the health carrier would have to prove you neglecience (gosh I know I didn't spell that right- so sorry). Anyhow, if the girls parents are not pushing this, then most likely it will cost them more to do that in the end than to just pay her medical bills.

Some things are just accidents. They do happen, and even in our sue happy world it's nice to know people recognize that.

When I was 16 I crashed my mothers car into a tree. I just didn't think and bent over (while driving) to pick up a cassette tape that had fallen to the floor. I had 2 passengers in the car at the time. The boy in the front had some mild injuries (he was the least hurt of the 3 of us) and his parents had the same attitude. Accidents happen. They had my parents car insurance pay his medical bills and that was that. The other boy had a lot of injuries and his parents did sue the car insurance company but never came after my parents for additional money.

That seems very unusual. I have never heard of that. I fell down my back patio steps, and broke my toe (and smashed my face in), but my medical insurance paid the claim no questions asked.

Homeowners insurance does not pay for the owner's injuries on their property.

OP here...

Well, I don't know much about 7 yr old girls, but I did the best I could. I have a 'goody bag' for her with a necklace/bracelet making kit, a Hannah Montana coloring book and crayons, a set of bracelets, and a card game. Along with 2 dozen chocolate chip cookies I made today. I'm taking it to her later when I get a chance.

I have no control over what else happens, but this makes me feel a lot better to do this for her.

You rock. All you have to do now is make a few indoor playdates while she is recovering - your kids will bring the board game. Good way to oshow your kids how to care for others!
