WWYD if your spouse handed you a check and said, "cash this for me, please"

  • Trade the check for cash.

Your spouse/SO/partner/co-person on a JOINT bank account hands you a check and says, "cash this for me, please."

Verify that he wants it "cashed" and not deposited and then do as he asks. It's his check right?

I'd say "you can cash it at one of the four banks you drive past on your way to work." (two of which we have accounts at) :)
In this particular case, it was a Saturday, and we stopped by the bank on the way back from YMCA basketball. I stayed in the car with the kids while DH ran into the bank.

I would ask him if one of his 2 legs were broken and if not, I would then ask him why he can't get his butt into his vehicle and drive himself to the bank.

More info about the check... is it written out to him? I can't cash a check with his name on it. I can deposit it into one of his accounts, but I can't cash it.

He is asking for me to actually cash it like a bank would? i.e he needs a quick $50 so he wants me to hand him $50 and he gives me the check?

I'm a bit confused. Did he hand you the check or did you hand him the check? You were already at the bank?

If we were at the bank, we'd just go through the drive thru to take care of banking business. :confused3

Other--I would clarify by asking if my husband wants it all as cash or should I deposit some.

I'd deposit it, because I don't know any reason why my wife would actually want me to CASH a check.

We never carry cash, we always use debit cards. :confused3

I did cash a check for my wife once, years ago. I co-endorsed it, first.

Heck, with all the banking rules, I'm not even show this is even allowed anymore.

I'm really confused. He wants YOU to cash YOUR check for HIM?

I'm a SAHM right now, so I have NO problem being the "errand doer" but if he needed $$ why didn't he just go to the atm?

I would assume he needed the check cashed and couldn't do it himself for whatever reason. :confused3I'd cash the check and give him the money.

I should have put "other" lol. It really depends on the amount of the check in my mind. If it were for $20 or less, I would just trade it for the cash. If it were for more, I would deposit it because we tend to not carry a lot of cash. Either way is easily correctable so I am not sure why it would be an issue. Also, since my DH goes to work before the bank opens and returns after it closes, I would happily (and always do) deposit his checks for him.

If he said, "cash this for me, please," I would exchange it for cash.
If he said, "deposit this for me, please," I would deposit it into our account.
:confused3

Okay, I think I get it. You were at the bank, you stayed in the car with the kids, you handed him your paycheck and asked him to "cash it" he then went into the bank and did NOT cash it but deposited it and now you are annoyed.

How am I doing??

OP, can you please tell us why you're asking? I think we need to hear your story as we are getting confused.:confused3
