WWYD if this was your neighbor???

Wow. That is so unbelievably annoying! I usually love big displays but that one would make me insane. That whole flashing ligth and obnoxious music would do me in!

stormi65-i love your puppy,is she a samoyed?? my best friend said she was doing that to her house-thank goodness she lives 30 minutes away! :earseek:

The music isn't playing for me, but I've seen it before. VERY cool! :)
For those interested, the music is by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Is this the same one that bearzabout posted? http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=972040. The link won't work for me. If so, the song is Wizards In Winter by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. It is from their album - The Lost Christmas Eve.

Assuming it is the same one - I like the idea of what they are doing. I just don't know if it is good for a residential neighborhood. Disney? - yes, a Christmas carnival? - yes - a nextdoor neighbors house? The first time I would be like awesome, dude! The second time - That is so cool! The third time - Is it 10pm yet? :earboy2:

I got the link to work! I guess you can disregard my previous post.

In case you can't tell - the flashing "between the eyes" spells out Happy Holidays. I only know because I saw a clip of this on the today show the other day.

I'd be shocked b/c none of my neighbors are that creative!!!! We're lucky if a neighbor turns on the porch light as part of their holiday decor/display!!!! :rotfl:

While it hurts my eyes to watch on-line (and would prob. hurt more to watch in person), I have to say that they've got the timing down pat w/the music! I think I'd prob. invest in some heavy black-out curtains and let others drive by and watch in amazement.

Hey -- I'd be out there peddling hot cocoa and sunglasses (or those cool fireworks sunglasses they sell at WDW) to the passers-by!

My husband is already gearing up for doing this next year. Sad thing is, he already has most of the stuff needed. He said that there is software to link the lights up with the music etc.

I'm really, really worried about what he's going to do next Christmas.....

I think it's very cool! But, I can understand if his neighbors get aggravated. Watch it without the music, it's like a seizure. And how can anyone not think it's Christmasey? There are wreaths, numerous xmas trees, a peace sign, icicle lights. How is it different from any other light display? :confused3

From what I understand, yes, he only lights it between 6&10pm but I think it is only on the hour or maybe on the half hour. It doesn't run like that for the full 4 hours. And the music can't be heard by standing in their front yard, you must tune to a low frequency radio station to hear the music so it isn't like that is blasting through their neighborhood.

In answer to the OP's question, I would love this to be in my neighborhood. I would be there all the time. We used to have a huge display right around the corner but the people decided that they were getting a little old to spend from Sept - April putting up, displaying and taking down. You could walk through their yard and see all of the displays they had set up. It actually took up about 3 yards but their neighbors didn't mind. They asked for donations that were then given to charity and had a small, Salvation Army-ish pot for donations toward their electric bill. No way they ever made enough in that pot to pay for it though.

I can imagine the problem I would have with this as a neighbor is the amount of extra traffic it would create. A typical quiet neighborhood would turn into a heavy traffic mess.

Just saw on our morning news that someone here locally has done it too. And they have their's set to several different songs! I think it's cool!

If it were my neighbor I'd be completely annoyed. But since he isn't, I think it's pretty cool and now my dh is talking about getting the equipment and programs to do something similar next year!

hon, that IS my neighbor. I swear, these people ARE the griswalds. They have a runway for santa, lined with man sized candy can arches. They have a sled with two life sized reindeer. Their house is abotu to blow out all power for the block.

ETA, gotta love the peace sign in the window.

Are you serious?!?!

:rotfl:

The light display if hilarious, but I don't like the music.
