We are building a new house. We have hired a contractor who is handling all of the subs and scheduling. I guess you could say we are just writing out the check. Anyways, back in December we picked out some plumbing fixtures. My Dad works for a plumbing supply company and we were able to purchase most of our items at wholesale cost, a wonderful deal and we were able to upgrade alot of items that we would have never been able to do otherwise. We got permission from the builder to use this plumbing company and even told them that we would handle all the running around to pick up the items when it was time to install. The items are now ready to be picked from the supply company. We are still using the builders plumber and we are paying another fee to have him install the items because we didn't go through the builder's supplier- which is fine with us if someone is doing more work in our house because of the choices that we made they should be paid more to install them. We upgraded our shower to a "spa" which has jets of water on all the walls. We emailed the salesguy and builder a detailed list, including pictures, of the items we had purchased. We went to look at the shower tonight and guess what they didnt install the jets and the surrounds are now complete. The builder is now saying that since we didnt go through their supplier we will have to pay to have the shower dismantled and pay to have it installed again. The salesguy that we have been working with is whining that he will lose some of his profit if we make them fix the shower- because he didnt understand the items on the list when we emailed them to him back in December. We have offered to hire another plumber and have them fix the problem so all that the builder would have to do would be to bring in the subs to fix the actual shower walls after he is done, but they will not allow us to bring in our own plumber. Something about being loyal to their subs. This is more a splurge item for us, it is not going to kill us to not have this in our shower but we will miss it. This is NOT the first mistake they have made in the house. I compare it to going to a restaurant that has awesome food but the waitstaff is horrible, they build a great house it's just if you can get to that point. I feel like I have to hold their hands to get anything done correctly and I'm just fed up. My DH is saying that we should just forget about it and let it go. What do you think? At what point are you throwing a fit when you are dealing with a contractor?
