WWYD: Garbage problem UPDATE in post #20

UPDATE:

I called the garbage supervisor today. He said having attached lids on personal cans aren't allowed due to the possibility of injuries to the sanitation employees when they are emptied (which was news to me). He also said that the pickup guy should have notified him and he would have sent a letter to that effect instead of pulling them off each time and tossing them. He said I could file and insurance claim for the lost lid.

He asked if he could interest me in the can the city sells. When I asked how much it was, he said it was $57. However, he then added that he could deduct the cost of the other cans (which are $20 each), so it will now cost me $17 and there was no mention of having to file the insurance claim. That sounded good to me, so I took him up on the offer. It is cheaper than going out to buy new cans and neither one of us have to deal with the insurance. The lid stays attached on the city can so I still get to have the hinged lid I wanted (and knowing the attached lids aren't allowed, I would not have bought the hinged kind at the store again). The new can should be delivered sometime this week.
You got a great deal.

I can't get past the fact that you keep garbage pails with garbage in them in your garage :scared1: .

Where else would you keep them???

Are you serious?? I don't know anyone that keeps garbage in their house or garage.....it goes outside in the garbage pails. We keep ours in the back corner of the yard....some people keep them on the side of their house and others in the back of the yards...never in the house.

Everyone around here keeps them in the garage. Do you have an alley behind your house? I can see keeping them there if you do but no one here does. We have to put the cans out on the front sidewalk on garbage day so everyone just wheels them from the garage to the walk and back up again.

But it's not in her house. It's in the garage. We have an enclosure that is critter-proofed out in our courtyard. Mainly because our garage is too full of other junk to store trashcans!! However, I have no problem at all with lidded trashcans in the garage. A lot of folks do this around here, because of raccoons, etc getting into the trashcans.

I don't think I know anyone that DOESN'T keep their garbage in the garage. When our kitchen & bathroom trash cans get full we just tie up the bags and bring it down to the big garbage can in the garage, then wheel that out to the curb on trash day. It doesn't stink or anything, and the only thing in our garage is our cars.. I guess I don't see why that's weird.

Nope- just a backyard- we just don't store them in the garages around here...the pails have lids so the squirells and racoons etc don't get into the trash and make a mess. We bring it to the street in front of the house for pick up days...we just store them as far from the house as we can which is why they go in the backyard in the far corner.

Aaahh...we have smart or possibly just very hungry raccoons here...they have broken through the locking lids, and bungee cords. They will rock the trashcans, tip them over, then disassemble whatever mechanism is securing the lid. Gosh, I feel like Chevy Chase or John Candy is close by!!

garage and so does everyone I personally know who has a garage. If no garage, usually the shed.
