WWYD - DD7's birthday party idea/plan

OP here. I have another question. DD is my only kid, so no experience here, but how are kids breaking bones on a trampoline with a safety net? DD has only been on a trampoline a few times with my best friend's DD and it's always just the two of them, so I'm curious. Guess I want to be informed before I spring for this thing.

The only problem I would have is the trampoline.. That would be a definite "no".. There was a brand new one here when my DD and her DH bought this house and the very first thing they did was to dismantle it and get rid of it..

Also, if you are going to allow other children to use the trampoline at your home, I would strongly urge you to get a short term umbrella policy through your homeowners insurance - in the million dollar range - in case one of the visiting children gets injured..

It's your party do what you want.

My concerns would be
1. all the kids should be in boosters in NJ it's the law until 8 years old at least. So can you fit them all with boosters?

2. No trampolines rule in our family unless I am there. I am not over the top protective but I would like to check it out first. You would be amazed at the kind of trampolines I have seen- one had a huge hole in it. Kids were still jumping on it and yes someone fell through the hole and broke their arm.
So I would be concerned with trampoline.

It sounds like a LOOOONG day with 6 7 year old girls.

NO I would not allow my 7yo to go spend the whole day at a party with 6-7 other kids. Four hours, yes. All day,no. I think you're just asking for trouble. And I definitely WOULD NOT allow her jump on your trampoline, I don't care how watchful you are. Trampolines are very high risk for injuries.

I am not a helicopter parent, just a parent who understands children. At 7yrs old my kids were good playing with 1-2 friends for set periods of time, maybe 3-4 hours at most. The more kids you have, the more personalities, the bigger the dynamic. I think that by the end of the day YOU will be the one pulling your hair out. And your daughter is going to be exhausted, as are all the other girls. Tears will flow, I guarantee you.

Leave 'em wanting more, is my motto.:thumbsup2

No- I would not let my child go. Too much driving around and I would not let them go to places like BAB (which is in a mall here) or any other public place like that without a parent (their own parent not someone else's) at that age. I don't think I know anyone who would. You also mentioned being able to fit 2 booster seats in your car. What about the other kids? At 6 they definetly need to be in something.
As for the trampoline, I am pretty laid back about a lot of things but you really have to be on top of things with a tramp. More than one kid and you have them bouncing at different times making the tramp half up half down. One kid falls they both fall. They bonk heads, hit the metal railing around the edge, fall the wrong way etc. and then they get seriously injured. The net just keeps them from flying off but you can still get really hurt on one. I too would also check your homeowners insurance as well. Many will not cover a trampoline and if they do your rates will rise considerably.

Injuries don't simply happen because kids fall OFF the trampoline. They can land hard and break an ankle or land in the springs and really do damage. They flip and can hurt their backs or necks. They like to bounce off the nets, too. What I have seen more than anything is bloody lips and goose eggs from kids bouncing into one another.

To answer the original question - that would be a VERY long day for my girls (who are almost 8 and almost 10). They definitely need down time built into their days.
