Inside the Magic is covering the press event for Universal's announcement of Harry Potter in Hollywood today -- however, Universal also confirms that WWoHP expansion is ON, although those details will NOT be announced today.

Details are here, although there are not many details.

Relevant passage:

Also confirmed in the event is a long-rumored expansion to the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, though those details are reserved for a future date.

Given the timing of the announcement, I can only assume this will in fact go where Jaws is. I accept my serving of crow.

Edit to add: According to Ricky Brigante's Twitter feed, Universal says Orlando WWoHP will be "greatly expanded." Again, no details.

I'll share it with you, though I'm not ready to get the silverware out just yet.

I have a hard time seeing this in Universal..Can you imagine how confused people will be with 2 separate themeparks with Harry Potter ..heck there are people that still don't realize WWoHP is not its own themepark.Interested in seeing how they plan on doing this...Though I wish they would reconsider axing JAWS

I wish they would give some detail about the Orlando expansion. I think a Gringotts ride would be awesome!

Thanks for the info! We go to California more often than Florida, so I'm glad they're going to build another Harry Potter Wizarding World there.:thumbsup2

Official press release

No details on when the L.A. HP attraction will open. Wouldn't be surprised if it opened summer 2015 or 2016.

Nor anything on when or what Universal Orlando will expand the WWoHP. But great news for people in the Northwest who don't want to fly across the country to Orlando.

they might as well shut all the other attractions and call it the harry potter studios for all the potter they're ramming down everyones throats.

i read that it's going to be taking over the poseidon area too. that and US? no thanks. i vote keep jaws.

I'm not a Potter fan but WWoHP is the best thing to happen to Universal Orlando since... ever. If creating great attractions that finally bring in the crowds these parks deserve is "ramming it down everyone's throats," then by all means -- let them ram.

Wow. They're expanding a popular attraction -- what's wrong with that? Besides, Universal is contractually obligated to add in elements from the last two Potter films, which could just encompass the Sinbad and Poseidon's Fury (the latter is not worth waiting in line for) sections.

I'm questioning the removal of the Jaws attraction. I liked the ride and all, but if it's too expensive to maintain... you might as well cut your losses. I doubt they'll put the HP expansions where Amity is... as I think it would be a headache to figure out the ticket issue and a lot of trouble rearranging things to allow for a "train track" into Hogsmeade.

So USF confirmed it not ITM . . .

Not sure why you want to split these particular hairs. I wasn't at the event, so I can't say Universal confirmed it because they didn't confirm it to me -- nor did they post it online at the time.

As far as I could tell, ITM was the only one live-blogging it. There was no info in the news wires or the Universal Web site at the time I posted this -- only ITM, on their Web site and Twitter feed... so as far as I'm concerned, ITM gets credit for bringing this story out to the rest of us first.

Ugh. I really dislike Melissa Anelli -- why does she and the equally undeserving Andrew Sims get all these privileges? She was in SoCal during the press conferences.

Ugh. The series is over, they should pay for park visits like everyone else. :headache:

I'm just happy I have another reason to go back to Universal in the future!! Here's hoping for a Gringrotts rollercoaster!! :wizard:

Something like Journey to the Centre of the Earth at Tokyo Sea would be awesome!

I so agree with you on this!
