FD is announced and we have already booked. As in the past it was the last 2 weeks of Aug. So we booked Aug 20 -28, and good $$ for flights, still hoping that FD would be on those dates like that past...
so lo and behold....FD is announced and FD starts the day we go home
I am so disappointed right now

Have you already booked your flights? If not, couldn't you change your dates or is that too much work? Sorry the dates were different than you anticipated. We're still holding out for some deal for November and were hoping something good would come our way before our 180 day (only 6 days to go before that window opens).

I am guessing the bookings were good for that time period with the FD offer that ended on 12/20/11. It is unfortunate that you did not book before that promo ended.

If free dining was offered for the same dates as in the past, then I would have booked it for our last days at WDW. But we leave on the 29th and one day of FD is no deal. :sad1:

Yes, unfortunately for the OP this was the case. We are at WDW from Aug 27 - Sept 4 and booked the FD package that was offered last year.

I've learned to grab a FD package just in case the dates work out. I didn't think this coming August's trip was going to go but it is so so thankful to have booked it even on speculation.

Sorry the dates don't work out better for you wingnut3443

Yeah, we had a trip booked and the dates didn't work out with the deals offered, so we canceled. We just booked a cruise instead. Our vacation dollars go elsewhere this year. I simply refuse to pay rack rate for WDW. I love it, but not that much.

I feel for you, OP! I am quite shocked that it starts so late this year! We always go for 2 weeks during the end of August. First week is crowded, but by the second week it is DEAD and that is WITH free dining.:confused3

This will be the first summer in 10 years that we are not going to WDW. We wanted to do something different so we planned a road trip to South Dakota. However, in the last month, with gas prices getting higher and higher, we have been contemplating canceling South Dakota and doing disney again. With free dining, our usual 12 night trip to disney would have been about $1500 cheaper than doing South Dakota. I have been agonizing over the decision but it looks like Disney made it easy on me! Since free dining is too late for us to take advantage of, it looks like South Dakota is definitely a go!

We're kind of in the same boat... holidays from work and airfare booked for Aug 24-31. I priced it out and with having to buy 2 day tickets on the FD package, it would be about $150 more than paying rack rate at POP and buying the QSDP to have 2 reservations. I was thinking that if it wasn't enough of a savings, it wasn't worth the hassle.

We were going regardless, but not getting any discount is the difference between staying at POP and upgrading to POFQ. I will keep my fingers crossed for some sort of discount for our dates, but I'm going to enjoy the planning in the meantime.

When FD was first offered, the first couple of years it began on the Sunday before Labor Day. It got expanded to earlier start dates and later end dates around the time the economy started to soften and became the new "norm" for a few years. Looks like Disney is trying out the original pattern of dates to fill the really slow time at the resorts, which is what FD was first started for.

OP- I am sorry it is not working out for you.....yet!!! Keep trying and I will keep my fingers crossed for you:)
