Wwjd? UPDATE (page 4)

The Wilderness Church is an attraction within the Silver Dollar City theme park. They have Sunday worship services, daily chapel services, hymn singing, praise celebrations, apparently as part of their theme park experience. Silver Dollar City is not a resort in itself and cannot be equated to the Walt Disney World Resort.

The Walt Disney World Resort is an entertainment resort, attracting guests from all corners of the world. For that reason alone, it is impossible to accomodate all guests' every need, whether they be religious or otherwise. If a guest has a religious need, chances are it can be fulfilled somewhere in the general area in or near WDW. There are means of transportation available to get just about anywhere in the Orlando area. But it is up to the guest to get there if the destination is outside the WDW Resort and they choose to stay within the WDW Resort.

We sailed on DCL (Magic) last summer, there were NO formal religious services onboard. Space was made available to those who wouldlike to have a bible study type of thing on Sunday morning, it was not structured and DCL didn't participate other than to offer space.

Only on Easter do they offer services onboard, and only on the Magic.

Anne

That's news to me.

When we sailed the Magic, in the fall of '01, they had an interfaith service every Sunday morning. It was held in one of the nightclubs on board. I guess about 70 or 80 people attended.

One of the counselors who cared for the kids was also an ordained minister from South Africa, and he led us all in prayers, readings and song. He also gave a delightful little sermon. There was nothing about it that resembled "bible study. " This was a Sunday liturgy.

at how an OP's questions can be turned into a debate- that's not what she wanted....

1. She CLEARLY stated that she knew services were no longer being offered- she did not BLAME ANY SPECIFIC entity- the church or Disney- don't read between the lines.

2. She CLEARLY stated that she wrote to the CHURCH to ask for transportation- many churches have buses and I'm sure many would be willing to go to Disney to bring people to their service. She WAS NOT asking Disney to provide transportation. Can we say- READ THE POST TWICE before responding so quickly.

3. She was asking for experience from those who may help her in this situation. For instance (ME!)- we went to a church outside of Celebration and they did have a bus to pick us up- my friend worked at Disney University and lived in their housing and we were picked up no problem. Sorry it's been over 10 years and can't remember the church. But it is possible- so maybe check with another church.

There- when someone asks a question- how about we not respond unless we can be helpful and for goodness sake DON'T RESPOND with remarks that incite dissension. I'd like to know how many posts out of these 3 pages actually offered something of help to his lady- and how many didn't- if you're one that didn't maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself.

Tara

Well put Tara, couldn't have said it better myself. Now, back to feeling the Magic!!

I found the information about getting a taxi estimate from Mears. This information comes from Dave Marx, an author of the Passporter,

"You can call Yellow Cab (Mears) for a rate estimate - 800-759-5219. They have taxi-vans available at the same rate as regular sedans if there are a bunch of you."

I would like to revise my earlier statement to say that catholics are obligated to attend liturgy each week, even though they are only obligated to take communion once per year, but encouraged to receive it every week.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
"1389 The Church obliges the faithful to take part in the Divine Liturgy on Sundays and feast days and, prepared by the sacrament of Reconciliation, to receive the Eucharist at least once a year, if possible during the Easter season.221 But the Church strongly encourages the faithful to receive the holy Eucharist on Sundays and feast days, or more often still, even daily. "

IMHO, Jesus would rather you spend your precious vacation time with family and friends than with strangers. God is everywhere, not just in a church. I agree with a previous poster, if you feel the need to worship on Sunday, have a small personal service or bible study.

TC - Not sure if you found any answers. My family and I will be attending services at Peace United Methodist Church on June 21 and 29. We have never been there before, but as we frequent WDW on the weekends a lot, we want to find a church to worship at.

I would be happy to find out information for you and report back when we return.

Peace UMC is only about 10 miles from the Epcot Resort Area where we are staying.

UPDATE!!!

Thank most of you for your kind responses! I was able to get in touch with someone from the church today and they will be more than happy to pick us up for services on Sunday! :)

TC:cool:

TC that's great! I'm glad everything worked out for you in the end :)

That's great news! :)

I'm sorry this got so out of hand. Some people don't realize how mean they sound online.

Great news.just look over some posters on this board.they never ever have anything nice to say.

Hey Tuffcookie, I knew everything will work out. God knew and He answered your prayer. Always have faith and He will not fail you. Have a safe fun trip! God Bless!

I find it amazing that anyone would think a resort should have any kind of religious services on-site no matter what the denomination. I was always pleasantly surprised that WDW offered that for a while.

I am also surpirsed that this question even came up for discussion, as I woudl think that if I were on vacation somewhere and needed transportation, I would call a cab. I am happy for the OP that they got a free ride form the church, but I find it strange that anyone would even think to ask for something like that.

What I find amazing is labeling people as "mean" for disagreeing or stating their opinion.

I agree that WDW should stay out of the religion business and that visitors who want to worship should provide their own transportation to an offsite church, temple, or whatever.

Disney Doll, the OP thought to ask because her church provides transportation.

addicted_to_WDW, the posts I was referring to were mean-spirited. I understand and appreciate differences in opinion. I WELCOME them, even. But some people express their opinions in such a way that it is hurtful to others. That is just uncalled for.

I realize it is difficult to convey meaning in writing, without the benefit of facial expressions, volume & tone, but a little extra gentleness on the part of some posters would be nice.

I am so glad that everything has worked out for you and you and your family have found a way to continue going to church while on vacation! Glad that everyone worked out!

Debbie

Glad it worked out for the OP.

I found it strange, though, that the responses to Ducklite's comments were so unkind--considering this was a thread about finding transportation to a church.

I realize it is difficult to convey meaning in writing, without the benefit of facial expressions, volume & tone, but a little extra gentleness on the part of some posters would be nice.

A little Christian kindness to those who are perceived as "mean-spirited" would go a long way, as well.

TC - I am thrilled that you were able to arrange transportation.

God is good.
