WWE'S Chris Benoit and his family found dead!

The steroids found in his home were PRESCRIPTION for a neck injury, not illegal. Did you read that.

Once again I don't care if he was on every illegal drug out there, if thats what caused him to go crazy we need to know. If it was really illegal drugs then we need to crack down more. This still has NOTHING to do with the WWE. Vince McMahon is very STRONGLY against Steroid Use.

While they were PRESCRIPTION anabolic steroids BUT just because he obtained them legally for a medical procedure doesn't mean that they couldn't have had a negative effect on him. Prescribed or not, they are still a controlled substance. People get addicted to legal prescribed medications all the time.

And we know that ALL Drs are completely ethical and would never prescribe a controlled substance to someone who was abusing it.

However, I think there was something much more going on and they will conclude that the steroids didn't play a significant part. He didn't kill his wife and child out of rage. She was bound and he was smothered in his bed. It wasn't a fight that got out of hand. Unfortunately this was no accident.

My great uncle was a body builder and professional wrestler many years ago and was part of that culture until his death and I worked for (the then) WCW and Monday Nitro/RAW. 10 years ago, steroid use was common in the up and comers but many used legal enhancement products that can also create problems if you combine/used incorrectly. Not all that stuff is 100% safe.

I will say again though, that there has to be deeper issues going on here.

No, Vince isn't pushing steroids at least not openly. Some guys have been caught with them and fired.

I assume then, that you would consider ballet dancers athletes.

I ABSOLUTELY think they are!

Alison your right about that. I know many people addicted to prescription drugs. Like you though I just think something much deeper is going on.

Linda I believe (and I may be wrong) that steroid use contributed to Kurt Angle's firing.

OH good lord some people will argue just to see themself type.

This is my last post on this thread since it's become he said, she said.

I"MY"OP yes it's a sport! No there aren't winner and losers like football but it is still something that takes athletic ability.

BUT WHY did a thread talking about a man who was a great athlete but was obvioulsy mentally sick turn into arguing over whether or not wrestling is a sport. STUPID. Does no one care about what actually happened and getting to the bottom of why it happened so it won't happen again or do we all just care about arguing and trying to one up someone else. So STUPID and CHILDISH and I won't involve myself in it anymore.

But you're right here arguing along with everyone else. What's the difference? Honestly? Because you feel yours is the right opinion, and there are others who are differing? I know that sounds very snarky typed out, but I'm asking sincerely.

And I would hazard a guess that virtually everyone who winds up using steriods illegally, had acquired them legally at some point.

Heavy on the SOME, and not all. Got to wonder when they were fired too. When he discovered it, or after he didn't want them and used it as an excuse to void their contract.

I'm thinking Vince is a lot like Bud Selig.

Only other people argue. :happytv:

I use to watch wrestling more then I do now. It is fun entertainment.

With schedule these guys have every week. I hav no doubt steriods is what
helps keep up their stamina going. Is it wrong? Yes but that's their lifestyle.

I saw someone say it earlier, The Rock was pure entertainment.
Give him the mic and he could keep the audience going all night.
Benoit was pysically a great wrestler.

Kurt Angle is confusing because he wanted out and did some things to trick Vince. He seemed to have him convinced that he planned to retire but what he really wanted was a lighter schedule. I suspect with him that his problem was painkillers more than steroids. His neck is a mess unfortunately.

It's amazing how many wrestlers get hurt and suffer in this fake thing called wrestling.

I don't trust him either to be honest. You can't argue with his success though even though he's trampled many people on his way.

You got me for a second. I didn't read all the pages.
That's why I added the rolleyes smiley. I wanted to make sure it came across as sarcasm.

MANY wrestlers get injured and some have died. It's not exactly just acting.

Joanne or anyone else, didn't Benoit also do Ultimate Fighting? I thought that's how he and Dean Malinko became best friends because I know Malinko was a UF as well as Ken Shamrock.

I remember a few years ago watching a PPV and Owen Hart's harness gave away and he fell from the rafters. They turned off all cameras and made an announcement about this being real and cancelling the PPV.

I don't think they canceled the PPV did they? They took Owen away in an ambulance and annouced his death later during the show

You know I don't remember I was umm enjoying adult bevarages more than the show so I guess so lol. I just remember the black screen and watching him hit the ground before that.

Exactly! Just because you're a big muscled guy and can hurt someone, doesn't mean your a Pro Athlete. The difference between Pro wrestling and the NFL is that in the NFL once the ball is snapped, all bets are off. There's no guaranteed outcome to what's going to happen. Strength alone doesn't guarantee victory. The Pro wrestler "The Rock" tried out for an NFL gig before he went into Pro Wrestling and he didn't make it off the practice squad. He washed out and was considered a failure. He's one of the biggest men I ever saw and looked the part of a pro athlete, but just didn't have the skills or natural ability.

It takes not only a strong man, but one with a God given talent and instincts that few possess. Lawrence Taylor of the NY Giants was a perfect example of a true Athlete. In his prime as a middle linebacker for the Giants, he not only was the best in his position, he changed how the game was played. Coaches of the other teams feared what he could do with his speed, power, and natural instincts for playing Pro Football at a level no one had seen before. His feats weren't common and he made many of a play that no one could believe what they just saw. He ended many a career and just ask Joe Theisman how it feels to be tackled by a linebacker of Taylor's skills and strength.

Same with Micheal Jordan. He always was a great player, but there was times when he could take his game to another level that almost seemed super human. I saw games that he played that still live in my memory and the history books today. Men like MJ, Bob Gibson, Joe DiMaggio, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, were not only great Pro Athletes, but had an ability that only a few possess. To put those men in the same category as a Pro wrestler is demeaning and an outright disgrace to their feats and achievements.

You can go to any Gym, in any big town in this country and find muscle bound guys that look tough and mean. Put them in tights, wrestling boots, give them a flashy name, have them follow a script and you have a Pro wrestler. Sure they can give and take hard blows and I wouldn't want to receive one, but that doesn't make them a real Pro athlete. The Harlem Globetrotters is a great analogy when talking about Pro Wrestling. Lets put things in real perspective here and call them for what they are. Pro Wrestling is scripted entertainment, no more, no less.

Wrestling has taken on the term "sports entertainment" because it is scripted. Does that mean these guys are not athletes? Not in the least. The definition of an athlete is a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina (miriam webster). By that definition, they are definitely athletes. Are they professional? Yes, they are paid for what they do.

To those of you who have posted that you are sickened by what he has allegedly done and have called him evil, that is your opinion. If he snapped for some reason and killed his family, he should be punished. I only hope that you say the same thing the next time a mother snaps and kills her kids.

While they were PRESCRIPTION anabolic steroids BUT just because he obtained them legally for a medical procedure doesn't mean that they couldn't have had a negative effect on him.

Yes exactly, just ask Elvis or Anna Nicole.

Elvis had a prescription for all 10,000 doses of "meds" he took in the last 9 months of his life.

It's well documented that drug use is rampant in professional wrestling. All you have to do is run a google search and you will find it. Anabolic steriods also mess with your nervous system and mind.
I don't have much respect for any athlete that uses enhancing drugs.

If he was using it explains the horrible thing he did. However I cannot feel pity anyone that kills their children, man or woman.

You are correct. During the "pre-fight" story-line being told was when the accident occured. They came back to JR saying something had happened to the Blue Blazer (Owen's persona at the time) and something went terribly wrong that wasn't a part of the entertainment but a real situation. They showed only him (JR) and the crowd for several minutes before moving on with the next story-line. Upon finishing the Val Venus and Jeff Jarret and Debra and Nicole Bass pre-show story-line leading up to the match, JR kept reminding everyone that "something had gone wrong with the equipment and they would not show anything because it was NOT a part of the show or a wrestling angle." After he (Owen) was attented to, they said they would continue with the show because it is what Owen would have wanted.
