WW Weekly Weigh In--- Part 2

How many additional points can you have if you do exercise? I thought it was up to 4, but that doesn't seem right.

The WW book says up to 4 and that is what my leader has said. My DD read online that there is no limit.

Thanks Nancy!:goodvibes That seems reasonable I guess, since I am training for the WDW 1/2 in 2010. Doing a lot of running these days!

I have heard that no matter how many you earn you should not eat more then 4 activity points. That makes sense.

Joining this thread- shamefully I gained a lot of weight over the summer. I lost 25 pounds on WW and was happy with my weight last May- Over the summer I gained back 15 pounds!

So I have been doing 3-4 miles of Leslie Sansones walk away the pounds, 5 times per week and now I am back on WW (not official member- just following the plan) as of today. I will have my 1st weigh-in on Friday. W.I.S.H. me luck!

By the way- I highly recommend Leslie Sansone videos- I use the walk belt for my arms with it- I don't know if it is doing anything for my weight loss, but at least I don't dread this "work-out". It is really energizing and makes my body feel good.

CheapMom I have two of Leslie Sansone videos and I love them. They are only one and two miles though. I should look into getting the longer ones because I walk outside at least three miles so I shouldn't cheat myself when I do a video. Welcome to the thread.

I'm not having such a good week. Sunday we had a party and I grazed all day. I knew what I was doing but at the time I didn't care. I so enjoyed all that good food. Now I'm having a problem of getting focused again. Tomorrow I weigh in and it won't be pretty. Maybe that's what I need to get me back on track.

This is a detour not a road block. No matter what the scale says you are still way healthier and you can dust yourself off. I find that the meeting is the best way I have of stying accountable so a meeting puts things back to attainable.

I finally weighed in last night and found that I lost 3.4 pounds. I thought I had a bad two weeks (I did) but somehow I must have a few good choices. I bet that you did as well. Let us know

Wow that's awesome. You definitely did something right. Keep up the great work.

That's why I want you to stop worrying. I was derailed from the week before Halloween and it just seemed to go downhill from there. I went last night prepared for another step back from my goal so I was ecstatic. I am now 4.6 pounds from my goal.

You may inch a little back, that happens. Start today with your water and try to get in your healthy guidelines and that will help the cravings a little. If you eat your whole grains and get in your dairy, water, fruits and veggies you really will not have as much room for th nibbling.

Great job Nancyg56:banana:

I weighed in last night and stayed the same; way to many bad choices this past week for me. New day and new week----back on track!!
I hope everyone has a great week!

Welcome all the newcomers:cool1:

My leader is really good about maintaining. She thinks life happens and that you do the best you can for as long as you can. If you break even on a tough week you are still doing well.

I have always struggled with water, until this time. This is what I do: every morning we have a 1/2 hour commute to work. So, instead of drinking coffee, I bring my 32 oz bottle of water with me. I sip it on the drive. By the time I get to work, I am half done my water for the day!! (and I have to pee like there is no tomorrow :rotfl2: ) Anyway, I feel better without that coffee and in fact have cut it out completely (I could never drink it black so there was always points in it). For the rest of the day I drink Peppermint tea and water and then as a treat I have 1 can of diet Root Beer with supper (hey I already gave up my coffee don't make me give up the RB too!!)

Thanks for sharing this idea. I have a 40 min commute each day. I took this idea and have been bring herbel tea to drink on the way.

I think taking one habit at a time is a good idea. You can work them all over a period of time so that this can be a life style change and not a diet.

I am going to try your tea thing for water. I have been struggling with my water ever since the weather changed :guilty:

Since friday I have been working on the water and I'm having a good week so far. Which I plan to continue with. The tea has really helped me alot. I have also been tracking everything (I'm on flex) but by focusing on the water intake, I haven't had the overwhelming feeling that I'm trying to make sure that I get "everything" right. In the past, by this time of the week I would have already thrown in the towel and written off the week. I am still very positive and upbeat.

This sound interesting. But how do you actually walk by using a video?

Well you walk around while you watch it- she has 4 basic steps other than walking or power walking in place; kicks, knee lifts and kick backs and side steps- She also does 4 steps forward then 4 steps back. It is kind of like a combination of walking and mild step aerobics.

Ah jeez- I am already in a little trouble. 1st day and I dipped into my flex points. Hoping to get through tomorrow without using any.

Hi Guys! It's been a while...I have been to Disney and back...spent a week in St Petersburg trying NOT to eat the wrong things...I did good and not so good. I missed last Tuesday's meeting...but I made myself go today.

I lost 4.2 LBS!! Wooo Hooo! I guess portion control and good choices rule!
I am a lousy tracker...I will try harder ....down from 203 to 188 and hoping to drop another 50 or 60.

Hope you all are doing well! Keep on going!

I think of the water thing like this...I think fat melts and drinking the water makes your body get rid of it, by flushing it out! Probably not true, but makes it easier to drink! :)

Welcome!! I love the watp videos, and really feel a difference in the way my clothes fit when I keep at them. I, like you had done real well til may, and over the summer I gained 17 pounds, but have lost 9 of them so far. I've been doing watp tapes 5-6 days/week, and for me and my not so young any more body, I really need to exercise to lose any weight. Welcome back to ww, and good luck.

Congratulations Nancy. That is an awesome loss. It sounds like you have developed lots of healthy habits now, and the bad choices can seem worse than they really are.

 You enjoyed yourself sunday, and that's what's important, and now you can get back on track, no guilt. We all have our days, and we need to cut ourselves some slack. This is real life, and I know I can't not splurge now and then, but I think it's a lifestyle that I can live with. Good luck this week.

Awesome job on vacation and DISNEY!! YOu should be so proud. I am thrilled after a vacation if I have maintained. Did you do the dining plan? I'm doing it for the first time in january, and am a little nervous. I think it's good it doesn't come with an appetizer and a dessert now.

I can't believe it's only 2 weeks til Thanksgiving. I'm really trying to stay on track til then. I'm on call 3-11 on thanksgiving, which means I can't drink, which will help me immensely. I think once I have a beer or two, I don't make very good decisions on the food.

I know i missed a bunch of you, so Congrats to all our losers and hugs to our maintainers and gainers. Have a great losing day.

mom2faith - I'm with you on the baby vs. wanting to loss weight. I'm hoping to lose this excess weight before we start trying, because I want a healthier pregnancy and to be able to have a better start to losing the post baby weight as well.
Amy- I hope that your reams come true. I want to let you know you are on the right track by watching your weight before your get pregnant. My DD was considered a high risk pregnancy becasue of her weight, it was more than yours and I was afraid for her. Well, she followed what is basically the CORE plan on WW, and initially lost weight, although that was not intentional. She had just changed her eating habits.

I guess I am just trying to say that you are already much further along in healthy habits than she was so I know that you can continue to make those choices. The baby weight will be just that....baby. So, don't be scared, you have all of us to support the weight challenge and I know that you be fine..

It is SO SCARY to be "trying" while I am still over 200lbs. I had really hoped to be under 200, but we do not want to out it off any longer as DD turns 4 right away and we do not want her to be too old when she gets a sibling.

Here in Canada we get 1 full year off for Maternity leave (it is at 55% of your wages, so there is a cost). Last time I ate the year away and went from a highly active job to a desk job. This time, I will not make that same mistake. I will keep moving throughout the year. There is a gym in my small town (in a lady's garage - smart huh?) so I will hit there with the baby as much as possible. DD will be in Kindergarden (if we get preggers soon) so I will be more active as she will be home with me every second day.

Thanks for the baby wishes.

:welcome: mom2faith, thanks for sharing your before pictures, it is always nice to put a face with a name. I have before and after pictures somewhere on this forum, I just can't remember where they are right now, but will look. I too am a weigh-every-day person, helps me keep better track of what I am doing.

I love to see photos too!! It is so nice to get to know all these new friends. We should plan a WW meet - during Free Dining maybe :rotfl:

I have heard that no matter how many you earn you should not eat more then 4 activity points. That makes sense.

My leader has told us that you can use a maximum of 4 per day as well.

I did not know this. I was always using as many as I earned. This is great information!!! Seriously, after all the meetings I have gone to, I have never heard this. This is important information!! thank you!!

I grazed yesterday for the first time since starting again, and boy am I paying for it today. My tummy hurts!! It is amazing how your body gets used to what you are eating and then as soon as you change it you feel almost ill. I did not weigh today and I thank goodness that I have 5 days to work off that bad day!!

That is what I am doing this time too, one thing at a time. It took me almost 2 weeks to stay OP for a day as I kind of had to wean myself off of my large meals. The water has always been hard for me, but like I said now that I get it in before work, it is a lot easier. Now I have to focus on adding more veggies - always my weak point.

I lost 4.2 LBS!! Wooo Hooo! I guess portion control and good choices rule!

WOW!! Congrats!!:dance3:

I agree with you on the water, every time I go to the bathroom I am thinking "OK I am flushing out all of this fat!!":rotfl2:

Well, for my update. I weighed in Monday and it was not good, so I decided (since I am doing online) I would weigh in Tuesday this week. I still did not do that good. I was only down 2.0 lbs. Now, I know 2.0 lbs is good, but earlier in the week I was down 3.0 lbs and I was sad to see that lb had snuck back up on me. This is why I should not peak at the scale!!

Then, yesterday happened. OY!!! We have a holiday for Rememberance Day here in Canada, so I was off of work. I went to a girlfriends house and a bunch of us scrapbooked all day long. It was Potluck and I thought I was going to be OK. Boy was I wrong!! It started with the Tim Horton's French Vanilla Smootie (6points), Caramel Almond Chocolates ( I dunno 3 points each times 3 for a total of 9 points) and well, need I say more. Let's be real here I stopped counting.

It is not that I ate that bugs me, it is not even what I ate that bugs me. What is bothering me today is that I am trying to make a lifestyle change, not just diet, and I totally caved!! Why could I have not just sampled a couple of things and moved on? Why did I have to eat everything? Why did I have to have seconds? Why did I just give up and throw it all away? I know it was just one day, but I had already had my "treat" day on Saturday and wanted to have another one this Saturday. I did not mean to mess things up so early on. Has anyone else had one of these moments? Like I said, I really want it to not be a diet, and yesterday I ate like I was on a diet and then gorging!!!

Today, I am paying for it. My tummy hurts!! So, I am drinking alot of water, and trying to get back on that horse. But, boy is it hard for some reason.

On a high note, I start my Yoga class tonight, so I am hoping that that makes me feel a lot better. I have never done Yoga before, so it is just a beginners class, but it is for 1 1/2 hours every Wednesday. I am really looking forward to that relaxing feeling that I hear happens when you do Yoga. And, the girl that I am doing it with has already found us a Belly Dancing class for after the Yoga class. I am really excited for that (it starts in January). I am hoping trying new things will keep me motivated. After I have some core strength back I really want to try Pilates. I have a cousin who lost 60 lbs doing Pilates and she looks amazing!! (She has also had 3 kids and you could never tell, her abs are amazing!!)

Well, off to a better day!! FLUSH THAT FAT!! FLUSH THAT FAT!!:cutie:

I think the one habit at a time thing helps to make WW less overwhelming. It would be to intimidating to learn and do it all the first week. Great job staying on track!

Here is some info about water and why it works. It is long I think worth it.

Why Drinking Water Really is the Key to Weight Loss by Maia Appleby

Don't roll your eyes! The potion for losing that excess body fat is all around you. It covers two thirds of the planet. If you eat right and exercise at the intensity, frequency and duration proper for you, but still can't get rid of a little paunch here and there, you're probably just not drinking enough water.

No need to get defensive. You're actually quite normal. Most people don't drink enough water. Most people are also carrying around a few more pounds than they would be if they did drink enough water. If you can't seem to get that weight off, try drowning your sorrows in nature's magical weight-loss mineral. It works, and here's why:

"What on Earth is 'metabolism', anyway?" People use the term all the time, but ask them what it means and you'll get all kinds of answers. Merriam Webster defines it as, "The process by which a substance is handled in the body." A little vague, but that's really all it means.

There are many forms of metabolism going on in your body right now, but the one everyone is talking about it the metabolism of fat. This is actually something that the liver does when it converts stored fat to energy. The liver has other functions, but this is one of its main jobs.

Unfortunately, another of the liver's duties is to pick up the slack for the kidneys, which need plenty of water to work properly. If the kidneys are water-deprived, the liver has to do their work along with its own, lowering its total productivity. It then can't metabolize fat as quickly or efficiently as it could when the kidneys were pulling their own weight. If you allow this to happen, not only are you being unfair to your liver, but you're also setting yourself up to store fat.

"I've tried it and I couldn't stand it!" The problem is that, though many decide to increase their water intake, very few stick with it. It's understandable. During the first few days of drinking more water than your body is accustomed to, you're running to the bathroom constantly. This can be very discouraging, and it can certainly interfere with an otherwise normal day at work. It seems that the water is coming out just as fast as it's going in, and many people decide that their new hydration habit is fruitless.

Do take heed , though. What is really happening is that your body is flushing itself of the water it has been storing throughout all those years of "survival mode". It takes a while, but this is a beautiful thing happening to you. As you continue to give your body all the water it could ask for, it gets rid of what it doesn't need. It gets rid of the water it was holding onto in your ankles and your hips and thighs, maybe even around your belly. You are excreting much more than you realize. Your body figures it doesn't need to save these stores anymore; it's trusting that the water will keep coming, and if it does, eventually, the flushing (of both the body and the potty) will cease, allowing the human to return to a normal life. It's true. This is called the "breakthrough point."

One recent finding, as irresponsible as it may be, that caffeine increases the body's fat-burning potential has many people loading up on coffee before going to the gym. This finding may hold some degree of truth in it, but caffeine is, in essence, a diuretic, and diuretics dehydrate. Caffeine may increase the heart rate, causing a few more calories to be burned, but this is at the expense of the muscles, which need water to function properly. This isn't doing your heart any favors, either. It's already working hard enough during your workout. Never mix caffeine and exercise. In fact, your best bet is to stay away from caffeine all together. It's a big bully that pushes your friend water out of your system.

Water is the best beauty treatment. You've heard this since high school, and it's true. Water will do wonders for your looks! It flushes out impurities in your skin, leaving you with a clear, glowing complexion. It also makes your skin look younger. Skin that is becoming saggy, either due to aging or weight loss, plumps up very nicely when the skin cells are hydrated.

In addition, it improves muscle tone. You can lift weights until you're blue in the face, but if your muscles are suffering from a drought, you won't notice a pleasant difference in your appearance. Muscles that have all the water they need contract more easily, making your workout more effective, and you'll look much nicer than if you had flabby muscles under sagging skin.

"Eight glasses a day? Are you kidding?!" It's really not that much. Eight 8-ounce glasses amount to about two quarts of water. This is okay for the average person, but if you're overweight, you should drink another eight ounces for every 25 pounds of excess weight you carry. You should also up this if you live in a hot climate or exercise very intensely.

This water consumption should be spread out throughout the day. It's not healthy at all to drink too much water at one time. Try to pick three or four times a day when you can have a big glass of water, and then sip in between. Don't let yourself get thirsty. If you feel thirsty, you're already becoming dehydrated. Drink when you're not thirsty yet.

Do you think water is yucky? Drinking other fluids will certainly help hydrate your body, but the extra calories, sugar, additives and whatever else aren't what you need. Try a slice of lemon or lime in the glass, or if you really think you hate water, try a flavored water. Just make sure you read the labels. Remember that you're going to be consuming a lot of this fluid.

It's probably a good idea to stop drinking water a good three hours before you go to bed. You know why.

"How cold should it be?" This is debatable. Most experts lean toward cold water, because the stomach absorbs it more quickly. There is also some evidence that cold water might enhance fat burning.
On the other hand, warmer water is easier to drink in large quantities, and you might drink more of it without even realizing it. Do whatever suits you, here. Just drink it!

When you drink all the water you need, you will very quickly notice a decrease in your appetite, possibly even on the first day! If you're serious about becoming leaner and healthier, drinking water is an absolute must. If you're doing everything else right and still not seeing results, this might just what's missing.
