I hate to admit it, but I ate nachos and salsa. The salsa is actually quite good for you, but the nacho's sure aren't--especially when you're trying to control hypertension. Oops!

Chips and salsa are my FAVORITE snack. I love them! A girl at work gave me a bag of organic spicy blue corn chips from "Garden of Eaten" (I think) and those things are the best!

Are they salty? I need to find chips with no or low salt. Preferably baked. I've tried dipping celery sticks in salsa, but just don't care for that--I'm not all that big on celery to beging with.

Once again assuming things aren't you? No my kids are not overweight, but just because neither them or myself have a weight problem does not mean I'm going to join in a fat-bashing session. And I was rerferring to some other posts on other threads where you told people how to parent their kids based on what you do.

Personally I feel sorry for someone who assumes that just because someone isn't hateful towards people with overweight children that means they must have overweight children.

???? I never asked about your kids! I never commented specifically about ANYONE'S kids on this thread.

Your arguments defy logic and sense.

You were vituperative, and shot off a personal attack at me, and I responded.

Truly, I am done with this thread.

OP, you can get the webdudes or webgoddesses to close it upon your request...

Did you just threaten me? What in God's name is wrong with you. I stated my opinion, maybe harshly, but it's my opinion. And now you're threatening me? What exactly are you going to do that I have to "live with"? Get a grip.

IMO *I think somebody is a bit of a drama queen*.....No offense

I bet some of you who are so healthy would probably have a coronary caused from shock if you knew what my kids ate today.

We have done pretty well with DD. She is still on formula but of course that is practically poison compared to breast milk. Then she had 1/2 of a banana and some Cheerios for breakfast. She had some Gerber turkey sticks and green beans for lunch. Don't know what is for dinner but it probably will be some pasta! The horror!

DS on the other hand is the one that will probably send you running to the ER with chest pains. He had McDonalds for breakfast (hot cakes and a hash brown). He had some Kraft Mac and Cheese for lunch, a Christmas sugar cookie for a snack a little while ago and he is probably going to get a burger or chicken tenders with cinammon apples (gotta alleviate the guilt a little with some fruit) for dinner. He doesn't eat quite like this everyday but since his fat Mom hurt her back yesterday - he is at the mercy of his Dad for food today. Someone call CPS!!!!

Ah, see, the 'you're so lucky to have great genes' excuse. I knew it would come up again.

And my friend the medical examiner says that nobody's bones are so big that it makes them look fat unless they're a Neanderthal. She thinks that excuse is hilarious.

Fine, so much for Christmas spirit. I suck at letting go, amongst other traits I'm not particularly proud of...

It's a fact - some people have great genes, others not so much. If that weren't true than everyone would have the body of a supermodel. I'm not saying the only way to be thin is to have great genes. But it's a fact that some people (like myself when I was younger) can eat as much as they want, never work out and not gain an ounce. Others aren't so lucky and have to work harder at it.

Your "friend the medical examiner" might be an authority on bones, but not bigger boned people and the clothing they need to wear. You don't have to be "fat" to find it necessary to wear plus size clothing.

And the Christmas spirit is still alive and well - Merry Christmas! :)

LOL! Hope you feel better!

BTW--there's nothing wrong with junk food--in moderation!

Unfortunately they were pretty salty. They had some other kinds of spices on them as well to make them zesty tasting.

I LOVE celery. Only with some sort of dip though (veggie, ranch, etc.).

I'm talking about children who are obese, because of their parent's lack of concern and lousy eating habits.

why don't you talk to the school board about the foods they serve at lunch.......I don't know what guidelines they follow but it's not working. Especialy when jr high students can get away with having a cinnamon roll and chips for lunch..........don't see that the parent has too much control there. Do YOU have school aged children? Do YOU actually know what goes into their mouths every hour of the day?

I don't know if you're interested in this but one of my dd's teachers slices cucumbers really thin and eats them like chips. She says it's really good and she gets her "crunch" craving filled that way. As far as chips with no salt go...have you ever made your own? I'm thinking I may try that. Baked. How hard can it be? I'll let you know if I get around to trying that. I'm thinking really it should be easy.

There are very few veggies I really dislike--cukes are one. But thanks for the idea. I had thought about just trying to make my own--but that's one of those things that I jsut don't think you'll ever get home made tasting as good as store bought KWIM?

I think it's rude that you obviously didn't read what I've written in this thread. I will say this one more time: I am NOT talking about kids that are a bit overweight or are going through a chunky stage before a growth spurt. And I'm NOT talking about stores carrying clothes of all sizes - I think that's great in fact. And of course I'm not talking about making them walk around naked to teach them a lesson. What I'm talking about is a large area of the girl's clothing section that is dedicated to Plus Sizes. There are wayyy more kids now that are huge - not overweight but huge. It's time for parents to wake up and realize that it's not OK. They're setting their children up for a lifetime of health issues. And NO, of course we shouldn't tease or look down on the kids. It's absolutely NOT their fault. The parents, on the other hand, should be taken to task for letting this happen.

But take a moment to think....how do you know that that HUGE teen didn't just lose 5 pounds and IS working her/his way down to a healthier weight? You'll never know. Maybe he/she just lost 15 pounds. You'd never know. They COULD be changing their lifestyle, but it will take a long time. You just never know.

I totally know what you mean. But mostl restaurants have chips. I think they make them. So I might try! But store bought is so much easier!!

A thread talking about what terrible parents other people are, is a fighting thread.

Its easy to pick on fat people because their "fault" is visable. Everybody has some fault or does something things wrong as a parent, but most of those things are not visable. I could think of worse things then having a chubby kid--being judgmental for one.

As another poster said, what would the OP do if her child made friends with a "fat kid?" I can see OP now asking about her diet and her exercise level and what mom or dad feed her. Teach tolerance to your children. Teach them to look beyond the cover and read the book. You never know.... that fat kid could grow up to become the doctor that saves your life.... or someone else who influences your life or your children's life in the future. Trust me, you just never know.

So it's okay to be judgemental about those children :scratchin I wondering though...how do you tell those children are obese because of the parent's lack of concern from the kids who have Prader-Willi, diabetes, or large ancestors :confused3 And how can you tell that their parent don't care?
Pretty big assumptions, I'd say. You are obviously doing a great job in the food department since your DD is so tiny. I'm sure it has nothing to do with her heritage or her metabolism.Just great food

Well said!!! (added in case OP's curious, none of my children are overweight and neither was I growing up. As an adult, some health issues have contributed to my gaining weight, but I'm working on it! To you, though, I'd just look like another fat slob I guess)
