WTH Mel??

I've enjoyed his acting career but they're movies, not him and not factual. He entertains me, he will never be my friend and let's HOPE the misguided voters of our country are never moved to elect him to any office.

I agree. Our fascination (or is it obsession?) with celebrity tends to distort that fact that they are just people who have the same strengths and failings as the rest of us. Some are decent people and some are jerks. We shouldn't invest in them any more respect or disdain than we would give someone else we don't know or only know superficially. Although I like to be entertained, I don't believe that people who make movies or play sports are worthy of idol status. In the grand scheme what they do isn't all that important.

Does everyone believe everything a gossip article writes? :confused3

I avoid The Star and other trashy gossip magazines, and this article could be simply gossip.

don't think it is "gossip"...his apology is all over AOL entertainment news

and for the most part, a lot of the "gossip" and trash you read in the Star etc., more times than not comes to light and is the truth...

interesting where this will go for him......but other stars have recovered from bad press and still make the $$$

Well, at least he apologized. I'm not saying he's right....but, at least he can come out and admit he was wrong. There are a lot of celebrities who would not do that, and with Mel having at least 6 children...apologizing is something he definitely needed to do.
he didn't apologize for being an anti-semite. he apologized for being a drunk idiot. he's such a jerk!

I've listened to him talk over the years (never been a huge fan) and he has let his true colors be shown from time to time, this being one of them. Although he has tried to sweep his comments under the rug he has also made some disparaging remarks about gays and women. He does not strike me as being a particularly tolerant man.

I think he is "a piece of work" and is far from the image that so many of us had of him. :guilty:

I was wondering when this was going to hit.

He did release this apology (per PerezHilton.com):

"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. [I am taking the] necessary steps to ensure my return to health. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable."

Mind you, this is the same man that said he was moving becuase Britney Spears' as a next door neighbor was ruining his "Godliness." Ummm...ok?

Sounds like a very troubled person to me, on many levels.

And that's a shame.

Like anyone didn't already know he was totally crazy-pants?

He's filed under the Tom Cruise category in my mind--actors who are so completely offensive in real life that they are unwatchable on the screen, even though it's a work of fiction.

Well considering it is on TAPE and in official police reports I highly doubt it is fake. And the fact that Gibson issued a statement of apoligy.
:confused3

I love the Passion and purchased it, but it was plain then and even more so now that these feelings infect his worldview. Sad

Interesting.... But I'll still watch my copy of Signs. I'd only hurt myself if I tossed it.

I have the firm belief that one never does anything on alcohol that is not in their nature already. To illustrate. One won't go shouting racial slurs if they never thought that way to begin with. All the alcohol does is lift off the veil of discression.

I am not a Mel Gibson fan. Seen only 2 of his movies. The Passion being one of them and I thought it was a good movie. I didn't think it was anti semetic.

I hate to hear hear he has such a troubled life. Seems like so much of Hollywood is like this. There are few in Hollywood that seem "normal" to me. I think he needs to seek help--sounds like he has a few problems that need to be dealt with.

These are movies, not documentaries.

By the way, Pocahontas did NOT marry John Smith, as depicted in the Disney movie.

If we're going to dislike people, I think it should be about their character, and not their creative license.
