Wrongly Expelled for Cheating?

You know what I think about cheating? BFD! It's not like she cheated in an important subject, it was art history!

I hated school and I especially hated learning crap that had no relevance in my life! If it weren't for cheating, I would have failed high school chemistry and physics. I'm not ashamed that I cheated, it was a means to an end.

The real lesson in this: never EVER admit to cheating unless directly asked or confronted!

Well, I personally think the punishment for the confessed cheating was overboard. I'm not going to condone a school for their policies however, as long as those policies are clearly stated and uniformly applied in all cases.

As for the bullying culture of the school - what a lovely place that sounds like. I think the girl should hire an agent write a tell all book, naming all the gossip, scandel, famous names and alumni, and every bit of dirt she can manage to throw back at them. It'll probably be bigger than the Nanny Diaries. ;)

It's only fair after all. If they are going to attempt to destroy the future of an 18 year old kid who made a mistake, she should get to take her shots too.

Maybe the bullying apple doesn't fall far from the tree?....

By confessing, she was actually proving her character. What a lesson...confess & have your life ruined, keep your mouth shut and you're freeeeeee.

Maybe the jerks who harassed her should be brought up on disciplinary charges and then ALSO have their colleges notified.
What has been the fall-out for these special little snow-flakes? Nothing.

agnes!

Did the other girls get expelled?

If they didn't, what was the school's stance on that? Probably "No Comment".

I hope that these parents win this case. I think that they tried repeatedly to resolve the issue to no avail. The "for rent" sign on the bed was ridiculous. And the school has "no comment", wanting to protect her privacy, yet they notified Vanderbilt. Absolutely vindictive behavior.

That is all you took away from this girl's situation?
In the huge forest of harassment and bullying, apparetnly condoned by the school, all you can see is that one little twig of her cheating on a test?

The bullying was wrong and the school was wrong for not dealing with it. However, I don’t' believe the bullying or lack of action from school officials should be used as an excuse for cheating.

If there are rules for cheating, they should be followed. There should be rules for bullying and they should be followed as well.

It seems like they "exceeded" the punishment for their own rules...twice. She served the 3 day expulsion, she had to stay in a hotel with her parents who flew up from S. Carolina for that punishment. They then notified the college that she had been accepted to, which was against their policy. They then expelled her permanently for this first time offense along with the "unexcused absence" reason. She had returned to school after the punishment, where the harassment seemed to escalate, sought treatment for anxiety, (what kid wouldn't have anxiety after all this) and due to that absence, which they felt was "unexcused", she was expelled permanently.

She served her punishment for cheating and it should have ended right there.. I think you are "on" to something in regards to not wanting to punish the "group" because that would be quite an economic loss to the school..

People don't realize how serious bullying is.. Countless kids commit suicide or go on shooting rampages because of it and the schools still refuse to get involved..:sad2:
