Wrong way to skip Living Seas preshow

Yesterday we were in the preshow room when we saw two families attempt to skip the preshow.

They were prying on the automatic doors and went inside. When we said you aren't supposed to do that they said they learned about this tip on a Disney message board. I didn't ask for more details because they were mad we said something.

The CM's turned them back into the room.

For anyone wanting to skip the preshow all you have to do when you enter the room is go to the left. Exit through those doors after the announcement and you will go straight to the hydrolators. They make an announcement after the one about entering the preshow.

Also the doors open into the room so stay behind the red line on the floor. Last time we saw someone in a scooter try to get close to the doors and the scooter got hit when the doors tried to open and jammed because of her. She was upset.

Even easier way, if you are walking towards the front of the living seas pavilion, walk all the way to the left and you will see people exiting from the "hydrolifts". Just wait for one of these to open, the people to exit and hop in. This will bring you right into the attraction. I have done this at least 15 times and noone ever says or questions me on it.

My first reaction was, "Man! can you believe some people?"

But I've since decided that this is becoming the status quo; people who think no rule applies to them because they are entitled. They're at Disney dang it!

I have seen people stopped that way too.

The people that we said something to yesterday trying to be helpful were not very nice.

At first I thought, is it really that big a deal? But then the more I thought about it, it's not that it is or isn't but that particular pre-show is there for a good reason.....crowd buffering.

When you have a continuously loading ride such as Splash, Thunder, whatever, you have the waiting queue that just grows longer as the crowd builds. But for a walk-through exhibit such as The Living Seas, they don't have that luxury. The more people fill in, the more overwhelming it can get. At least by having the pre-show and hydrolaters, it gives a bit of time for some people to flow out of the exhibit.

Again, I am generally not for skipping on this exhibit, but if you were to politely ask the CM if there was a way to skip the pre-show and they said "ok", that is certainly a little more appropriate, IMHO, than prying open a door. I also liked the idea of waiting for people to exit the hydrolaters on their way out and just ride it back down as it goes to get more people.......

I saw two Guests heading towards the exit last week and they were re-directed to the main entrance by a Cast Member, so yes it does happen.

The best way....is to ask a Cast Member. We're there to help
Even as a CM, I won't just do/go what/where I want. I know that different attractions and areas have different procedures based on that attractions design and there could be any number of reasons, safety or otherwise, not to just go ahead and proceed on one's own.

A couple weeks back I was going to see a fellow CM doing the tank dive at Living Seas. I had no interest in the show at that time.....sooo....even though I do know alternate ways to enter the building, I waited and asked a Living Seas CM for bypass entry assistance.

I saw some people doing this too, and they got caught. And yes, people are always passing the red line, then complain when they get wacked by the door. Too bad some people can't follow instructions...

From what I recently read on AllEarsNet, this won't be a problem for my family.........Living Seas will be closed for updating in October.

I saw two Guests heading towards the exit last week and they were re-directed to the main entrance by a Cast Member, so yes it does happen.

When they are able to, CM's outside Living Seas will shoo entering guests away from the pavilion exit doors which are the exit hydrolator doors, so as to better hide the SPOILER secret which you can hold the mouse button and drag over for more details below:
The Seabase Alpha main level is at the same level as the outside. Although the hydrolators were made by an elevator company, there is essentially no vertical movement during your ride "down" or "up" and the entrance doors open for the next crowd almost as soon as everyone exits and the exit doors close. Close inspection of the positions of emergency exit doors near the hydrolators from both sides will confirm this secret. No guests should be forcing doors or using passageways marked "cast members only" or "emergency exit only" just as personal shortcut. Funny, it seems, that people who break rules also tend to be not nice. Maybe Disney needs rudeness police.

I must be *missing* something because when we went it was ANNOUNCED over the speaker that you didn't have to watch the preshow. The literally told you, after the pre-show started the hydrolators will open and you can just enter that right then. It even told you where to go so that if you wanted to watch it go one way and if you didn't stand by the other. I can't imagine why there would be a need to pry any door open or anything like that.

I forgot the exact wording but I thought it was on a recorded spiel. It mentioned something about how long the pre-show was and something about what it was (I obviously wasn't listening that closely but I DID catch the part about if you don't want to view it because the way I have read it, I thought it was just one of those if you know tips so it took me by surprise when they were giving you options).

We just happened to be right next to the hydrolators when they opened so we skipped the pre-show after it did the countdown for it to start.

One thing I didn't realize but followed someone else doing it, so it worked for us, is you can take your own stroller in (at least the mid/smaller umbrella sized ones - I would think the rented ones would be too big/bulky). I wasn't sure and thought maybe I had to park it but only had to park it for seeing Turtle Talk. We didn't go up to the observation level or anything though. There is stroller parking outside the pavillion which is why I wasn't sure but made my life a LOT easier with the little guy!

When we were there a few weeks ago we went through the preshow. I realized I left my son's diaper bag in the stroller and we needed it. My DH went out the exit and got the diaper bag. He waited until the hydrolater opened and people got out and went in. When he got out, a CM literally came running at him yelling that she could not let people in that way, he had to go back down, etc. He tried to explain to her what he was doing but she wouldn't listen.

We all went out and sure enough, after we exited the hydrolator there was a sign stating something to the effect of "exit only" and some other notice as well. My DH was in the wrong but he was still upset that the CM embarassed him that way!!

Oh well, we missed TT with Crush because of that but we will be there again soon!!

Agreed. You might consider editing your post so you dont ruin the "magic" for anyone.

Whenever I ride the hydrolators, I complain about how the pressure change (as we descend) bothers my ears.

I am hoping with the renovation that they stop all that boring pre-show wait.
There is nothing going on, and I cannot even see how it used as crowd control. It creates a crowd, I think.
Last time we went in the out. (Just waiting, not forcing any door.) I think I would even be willing to pay to avoid the BORING start. It would help if guests could immediately enter. If I recall correctly (I rarely go) all guests have to stand in a room that has countdown numbers. (Count down to nothing but more waiting.)
I think I have been there three times in all my Disney years. Crush is a great addition though. I am looking forward to seeing what the place looks like after the renovation.

I guess the boring pre-show wait with countdown numbers will stay because:

1. The movie may be in progress when guests enter and they have to wait until the movie finishes and the auditorium emptied and refilled.

2. Disney does not want guests skipping the movie for the sake of skipping the wait although it is OK to skip the movie for the sake of really wanting to skip the movie.

3. Seabase Alpha could indeed be crowded sometimes when a delay is needed to let guests already inside Seabase Alpha exit.
