Does anyone know if you can write on a magic band with a sharpie? I would like to write my phone number on my kids' magic bands in the horrible event that they get lost... just a thought.

Yes. Very easily.

(In the grand scheme of things at WDW, losing a MB not exactly a "horrible event.")

I wrote on the outside of ours with a fine tip Sharpie. It did okay, but we didn't wear them all the time or get them wet. They were a backup set. It might not last as long on the inside. Plus, it would be harder to see black on the dark grey. Use good pressure and go over it multiple times if needed.

The 'BAND" is not what is needed to access the attractions and all that. That is on your MDE account and the RFID chip inside the band (which is updated whenever you change things on the account). So you can do whatever you want to the band and it will be fine.

Many people decorate their MBs with paint, stickers, tattoos, etc. so writing with a sharpie shouldn't be any trouble at all. If you are worried about it fading away, paint over what you've written in clear nail polish a few times. Our bands held up very well like this!

We have decorated ours many times. You can also use nail polish. Just a note, the sharpie must be used over the clear nail polish, not under if you are using both.

OMG LOL. Yes, I meant if the kids got lost, it would be easier for a CM to find Mom and Dad.

There are companies that sell vinyl stickers specifically for this...not very expensive, really, and cute. The ones I saw came in several colors and said, "If my parents are lost on one half and....please call ____________ on the other half". Those are waterproof, fitted to the shape of the band and decorative enough that the kids might like them.

So....that requires a cm willing to touch the child and look close enough at the band. Obviously you would put it on the inside so that my just anyone can have your number. And then it requires that that cm has a phone.

Not all CMs will touch the child or their band and not all CMs have a phone.

While the band tech is making things perhaps quicker (some CMs have readers that could access your account info), I would rather you focus on the time honored stuff.

Each morning take a picture of the kids in that day’s clothing. That way it’s easier to describe them!

Have the kids identify CMs. If they are separated they should go to a cm behind a cash register to ask for help. They can also find “a mom”. (It’s just stats that a mother is going to be safer to go to than others...it is what it is...AND a child is UNlikely to pick a person to ask that creeps them
out!!!)

For the adults, have one adult stay put. Have the other adult go back to where they last saw the child. Both should find a cm in their area.

Both/all adults should have the image from that morning on their phone (making an assumption that most people do have camera phones) so they can show the CMs.

And let the CMs do their jobs. They are very good at the art of reuniting lost parents. :)

A Sharpie will work.

There are a number of services that create decals which you can apply to the Magic Bands. They hold up pretty well, especially if you make sure you clean the Magic Band good before applying them. You can design your own decals through their website, and could easily incorporate a phone number into the design. MagicYourBand is one of these services, which I have used personally with great results.

So here's my thing......to me, a zombie thread is something that's dead, i.e. no longer relevant, but gets revived. I think if the info is still good, albeit old, and it could still be useful to new DIS'ers who weren't around to see the old thread, it should be given a different name. How about Groundhog Thread?? I'm sure in all your genius, Robo, you could come up with an awesome mascot for that too....heck, even a zombie groundhog would work! What say ye, DIS'ers??? ;)
