Writers

I wrote this earlier today:

On this day in 1967, during training for the first crewed flight of the Apollo program, astronauts Virgil “Gus” Grissom, Edward White and Roger Chaffee were killed when a fire broke out in their space capsule. Forty-four years ago today.

On the 28th of January, 1986, a rubber seal aboard one of the booster rockets on the Space Shuttle Challenger gave way shortly after liftoff. All seven of the crewmembers- Francis “Dick” Scobee, Michael Smith, Ronald McNair, Judith Resnik, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis and S. Christa McAuliffe-perished. Twenty-five years ago tomorrow.

On the 1st of February, 2003, damage to the heat shield that had occurred during launch almost 16 days later caused the Space Shuttle Columbia to disintegrate while re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere after a routine mission. The seven astronauts onboard- Richard Husband, William McCool, David Brown, Kalpana Chawla, Michael Anderson, Laurel Clark, and Ilan Ramon -were lost. Seven years ago next Tuesday.

In our present time, the greatest quest of adventurers is the exploration of space. In the 60s, the first footsteps on the moon were the ultimate goal, and today, our work with space stations and shuttles builds towards a first landing on Mars.

A century ago, there were still many great geographical challenges and mysteries on the surface of our own planet, and the great goal was to be the first to stand at one of the poles. Robert Peary and Matthew Henson were the first to the North Pole in 1909, and Roald Admunsen the first to reach the South Pole in 1911. About ten years later, the attention of explorers turned to the “Third Pole”- the unclimbed summit of Mount Everest.

In 1924, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine set out to make the first ascent of Everest. They were never seen again, and Mallory’s body was not found until 1999. Even today, historians don’t know if they made it to the summit or not.

But Mallory’s fellow explorer, Howard Somervell, offered this statement when asked if he thought Mallory’s death was worth it:

“The loss of these splendid men is part of the price that has been paid to keep alive the spirit of adventure. Without this spirit, life would be a poor thing, and progress impossible.”

thats also still in the works, so any suggestions are helpful. but in mind i have: Ryder, Alec, Jace

Hmmm...what about longish black hair (either natural or dyed), brown eyes and either a goofy smile or a crooked one?

I liked Ryder best.

Here's a little something I just wrote, still using the characters of Teddy and Armina.

"So, what's your story?" Teddy asked her. The two were sitting across from each other, with a camp fire in the middle. It was their last day in the woods and Teddy figured that now was as good as any time to find out about the Brandt girl. Maybe he'd even find out why she was kept a secret for so long.
Armina, though, said nothing. She was still looking down at the ground. Teddy did take it as a relatively good sign that she didn't flinch when he spoke. At the very least, she seemed to be getting used to him. Teddy debated on whether or not to press his luck with her.

Sometime later he would look back at this moment, and be immensely glad that he chose to speak again.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I'll be writing for my college newspaper soon since I'm in the Journalism program. I had one large interview assignment that I had to do, so I did a profile on an editor from my favourite book publishing company. My interview almost lasted two hours, but I actually liked it. If you're interested in what you're writing, then it can make the interviewing a lot easier.

I only took Journalism to get the writing classes that came with it since I'm hoping to become a book editor myself. All the schools that had actual publishing courses were too far away. I'm shy as anything but I have told myself that I WILL be finishing the two year course so I can get my degree. That includes interviewing a bunch of people to get my story straight. I'm also hoping the course will bring me out of my shell. I definitely need it.

Good luck with you article. ;)

I also want to become a book editor :)

I am starting to write like a novel, I'm not sure if I'll actually make it far enough to finish it though

I love writing. I mostly write fanfiction because I think I'm pretty good when it comes to plot, but my character development could use a lot of work.

One of my latest "I'm bored in class and having guy issues" poems:

Why Can't He?

I can feel it
So why can't he?
I can see a future
So why can't he?
I can tell how perfect we would be
So why can't he?
Why is he blind to all the signs?
They are creaming out to me.
I can hear them loud and clear
So why can't he?

*dd*

I loved writing. My and my best friend are writing a saga called "The Dream Saga" We've written like 9 chapters i think. Later i'll upload part of the book when i get some time. :surfweb: It'll be as Tink's bff.

Which plot would you want to read a book about most?

#1 *main character* is the President's daughter, but when the Government gets taken over she is forced to go into hiding with her older brother.

#2 *main character*'s mother has just gotten killed in a car accident and doesn't want to move in with her father, and refuses to live with her stepfather alone. So she moves from Alabama to New York to live with her aunt (mother's sister).

#3 *main character* school goes under serious lock down and nobody is allowed to leave. Why? Because of a strange person-killing illness caused by something inside the school. Everyone has been exposed to the disease and the government is ordered to keep the school quarantined. Nobody can go in and nobody can go out.

The 3rd one kind of sounds like The Happening, but instead of people killing themselves they're killing someone else. :confused3

If you changed the first one from going into hiding with her older brother to maybe...hmm...a bodyguards son or maybe a foreign diplomats son? LOVE CONNECTION!!! :woohoo:

Just joking. They're really good ideas. :)

I've never seen The Happening, so I can't relate haha.

If I had done the first one I woulda made it so that while in hiding the main character would have met a love interest (:

I like the first one the best. Lots of potential for dramatic scenes.
