Do you take home food that is not eaten? Are there certain foods that you will not take home?

I refuse to take home salads, fried foods (DH takes home wings) and desserts.

I will take meats (most of the time) and pastas.

What about you?

Considering that most resteraunts I visit are places that hand me food through a window, it's just not much of an issue. :p

That's how I do portion control is by boxing up part of my food before I even start to eat it. That way I don't overeat. :) It doesn't matter what it is..I'll box it up and take it home anyway. I love leftovers and have been known to eat leftover anything (doesn't matter what it is)for breakfast the next day.

I take whatever my kids tell me they want to take home. There's usually not much left on my plate, both of them eat most of my food instead of their own food.:p The only salad we box up is at Olive Garden, but my dd usually eats it on the way home.

I always eat half and have them box up the rest. The portions are always just too large for me--plus, I have lunch for the next day!

I usually will take home half a sandwich from lunch and have it for dinner. Anytime I order pasta, which is very rare since i'm LC, I generally do not take it. The cheeses and oil separates and it usually tastes nasty.

We have a Harolds Deli here in NJ and they make the huge NY style sandwiches. You get about a pound of turkey and 4 slices of bread. My DH and I ate off of that sandwich for dinner, and lunch the next two days.

I won't take salads or bread because they are usually just awful the next day. The fried food isn't too bad the next day as long as you put it in the oven to reheat it and not the microwave.

I never have dessert leftover, but if I did happen to have some cheesecake or something, you bet I would take it home.

DJ will take anything home. It's really disgusting...things that will never reheat well, things with lettuce and sour creme. Ick!

My DH once had this shrimp/garlic/white sauce/linguini dish for breakfast the following morning - ON A BAGEL!

it just LOOKED nasty! (plus is stank the house up to high heaven!)

We don't go out to eat often...but when we do, I rarely bring home leftovers - DH does though sometimes. (I'm usually a member of the clean plate club sadly - god knows where I got this bottomless pit for a stomach)

I like to take home half for lunch the next day. I generally don't order fried foods that often. Sometimes the lettuce in the salad gets a little droopy, especially if you have already added the dressing.:D

LOL!!! we try to. now, granted since the twins are only 4 months old its been a while since we had the opportunity to. However, we always have my meal boxed up...portions are usually at least double what I would eat. However, we almost always forget to take the box. Its a running joke at this point...we really want to, but we're usually half-way home before we remember it.

I will take home steak but I give it to the dog. I will sometimes bring home pasta and desserts if they don't include ice cream.

we use to pack up food all of the time but it would just sit in our fridge and get gross so i stopped even trying to think that i would eat it the next day.

Oh yes, give me those leftovers! I'm home alone all day and hate to go to much trouble to prepare anything just for myself. It's an opportunity to get a day away from....VIENNA SAUSAGES!!! :goodvibes

I'm pretty much the same as you, OCM. The things you described to leave behind don't travel/reheat well. My one exception to your list is salad. If I order a lunch (huge) salad that I know I cannot finish, I ask for a box as soon as the waiter brings it to my table. (without the dressing on it, of course) Then I put half of the salad in the box before I even start to eat it. If I get it home soon, it will still be fresh for later. DH doesn't mind leftovers, so he will usually eat it for lunch the next day.

I can never finish an entire meal myself, so I am always bringing something home with me..::yes::

I will take it home and give it to the dog but I never ever eat leftovers..I cook close to what we will eat for dinner so there are not leftovers since I would just toss them anyway and not eat them!

Nope, never take leftovers home. I just don't like leftover food, it's never as good.

My IL's, however are the "Oh, you're not taking that home? We'll take it!" types. Ewww.

I LOVE leftovers, that's what I eat for lunch each day (I don't do sandwiches) ;)

I agree, salads and fried foods don't work, so I often don't order those things while out because I can never finish a meal...

We're freakin cheap, so if we fork out money for a meal, it'd better feed us more than once ;) That's how we justify a meal out, because we get at least two out of it!
