Wow...Twilight book

I reluctantly read them after my 17 year old niece asked me to. I was hooked from the start on Twilight. New Moon was eh for me, but Jacob annoys me. Eclipse was probably my second favorite, followed by Breaking Dawn. That one got a little too strange for me, but I did enjoy it.

The movie has terrible acting, for the most part, and I hated that it strayed so far from the book, but it didn't stop me from seeing it twice and pre-ordering the DVD :rotfl: . I also love the soundtrack.

Also, as an adult reader, I am really enjoying the Southern Vampire stories (Sookie Stackhouse) by Charlaine Harris. They are the books the HBO series Tru Blood is based on. I also enjoyed her Harper Connelly books.
These are on my list to read next.

See I HATED the movie (it ranks in my top 5 worst films ever), but I thought it was extremely faithful to the book...to a fault actually. Had it strayed more they could have tweaked the weaker elements of the book, but the entire thing was an homage...a girlie shout-out to the fans favorite scenes and memorable lines.

I found the soundtrack to be wholly awful. The background music was distracting and annoying.

That's just me...LOTS...BOATLOADS...MILLIONS of people adored it.

The books are definitely addictive. I think her writing style is immature. However she really knows how to tell a story. I liked the book because I knew it was everything I dreamed of when I was 13, she gets credit for remembering what it was like to be a teenage girl. I liked #1 and #3, #2 was fine, and I hated #4. The writing was not good, the entire thing was rushed and weak. However she did create the ending she always wanted, so I respect that.

If you read her bio on her site, the first book was written very quickly within a matter of months. It was her first attempt at a novel also. Then she popped out the next few books quickly as well. So it makes sense that the writing was simplified and a bit rushed. I also found several typos in the books, which I was shocked to see, but I suppose the goal was to just get them out as fast as possible.

DD read all 4 in just a matter of days, she could not put them down and keeps telling me I have to read them. We are going to WDW soon and I was thinking I might take the first one with for the plane ride, haven't decided though.

I got dd 11 the whole set for her birthday with the condition that I would read it first. She has been bugging me to start but I just don't want to. Reading this thread as my curiosity peaked so I'll start Twilight tonight and see if I can make it through it.

DD bought them all. I resisted reading for quite a while. Then my secretary (who is older than I am) insisted that I read them all.... I was "eh" about the first book, LOVED the 2nd and 3rd. 4th was 'ok'.

Now I am a Twilight addict.....:confused3 :rotfl2:

I have book #1 and #2 tucked away to go with me on vacation next month to St Lucia. :thumbsup2 I'm VERY much looking forward to reading them while relaxing on the beach.

I have never had such a love/hate relationship with a book or series. I suppose ultimately if I had to choose sides, I would fall into the "hate" camp because of how much a detested Breaking Dawn, the movie was a hot mess, and the other problems I had with the books as a whole.

On the plus side, YES, I read them all at lightening speed. Something about the story was tremendously compelling to me despite the MASSIVE flaws. So kudos to the author for at least that. My main problems?

1. The pacing. Nary has a book crawled along at such a snail-stuck-in-frozen-molasses pace....and I've read Great Expectations. Through each book, NOTHING happens for about 2/3rds of the story.

2. The direction. She shifts story arcs and expectations (most notably in New Moon).

3. The characters. I hate Bella. She's weak and whiny. NOBODY is that clunsy without having some sort of inner ear problem. I also have a problem with obsessive love.

4. The let down. TWICE in 2 and 4, Myers builds to this huge earth shattering plot point and then...nothing happens. (i put this in white so as not to spoil it for you)

I couldn't agree with you more! I only read it because I was sick of people saying to me "Oh, your son's name is Jasper! Like from Twilight?" and I really wanted to know what the fuss was about but, IMO, it just seemed kind of silly to me. Also, I'm not sure I like the whole "oh he's so abusive and controlling... isn't that dreamy?" thing. However I have nothing against the truckloads of people that disagree with me, and I know that I'm not the target age range, so I'll get over it. :upsidedow

Ok, so over the weekend, I started "New Moon". I was not expecting to get so upset over the book. It kind of broke my heart. I'm gradually getting through the book though, not enjoying it as much as #1. I need more Edward!! But, I didn't watch Desperate Housewives last night, so that should say something. :rotfl: My husband was in total shock that I was reading "that stupid book" over watching Housewives. :lmao:
